I did a test on Parallax by deleting all the initial spawns and respawn points on the default map and saving it. I was still able to load the map after that and forge on it. That surprised me. Now l'm not sure what to think on the whole deleting spawn points issue. Don't worry, I deleted it after that. Last weekend I spent several hours just figuring out how to do the lighting on my map to make it look the way I wanted. Never had to do that before, but that's the way it is in H5 Forge now. If you forge any kind of indoor space you'll need to put in a lighting system for that space or else it will be too dark. I think I have a pretty good handle on how to do that now.
There are specific conditions...IIRC if you have an initial spawn point but no regular spawns. If you place at least 1 of both, you shouldn't have to worry about it. BTW the bug corrupted all the versions of the map that I'd saved so be careful. In case you run into it, some people have had luck with having a friend JIP and then place the spawns for them.
Lighting surprised me too. I muddled through it and my map looked cartoonishly pixelated and blocky after baking the lights. I had to switch to dynamic lighting and lower the light intensity a lot to get it to look right.
Spawn testing with two players proved virtually useless. The spawn engine kept picking the same two or three over and over even though there were other equally safe spawns. I guess it'll take lots of people to test my spawn locations. The team specific respawn zones worked for CTF. Not once could I force spawning in the other team's area and that's a good sign.
Don't forget to un-select your pieces or lock them after manipulation. Most of my problems
Forging thus far have been forgetting to do this and then finding errant pieces floating around in space then scratching my head.
Finished my first map recently, Ghost Garage v2. This is a small FFA map with ghosts. It won't work for team games, so I wouldn't try that. I had to remove one of the ghosts in the middle of the map on the first version since they were too close together which caused problems with them being able to respawn. I also seem to be having the same problem as Deep where only a few of the respawn points are used when I tested it by myself. Not sure how it will play in a real game situation. Already started working on a couple more maps.
Theatre does not log recent films from custom maps. I tried immediately after playing on my map and it was not there. It might be the one available for immediate play but what good is that if you're playing more games.
Frigging frustrating not being able to see how a map plays.

I'm surprised to find out some of the Forging community biggies are only just finding out about this. Makes you wonder how good the testing was on their maps.
I noticed the weapon timer for a weapon pad was not working as set. A sword was respawning every 150 seconds instead of 180, as set. Also of note, every person on the team could acquire a sword if the games were long enough.
I noticed rocket w/o weapon pad was not respawning for times substantially longer than the 180 seconds I set.

If you haven't already, check your despawn settings. I copied them from 343 maps and they work as far as I know

Already checked, seem to be the same. I used a timer for testing. The results are disappointingly inconsistent.
I'm way less than 40 files, let alone the new 100 limit. I'll bet they increased the limit to 100 files in your lifetime, whether they were deleted or not.

I've had problems "saving as" a couple times that didn't have to do with the limit. I'd get an error "Save Failed". After getting the error, when I selected the original map I was trying to save, it'd just hang and say "loading". A few hours and a hard reset later, the problem went away.

This problem exists on my newest file and will not go away. I've tried all the workarounds I've heard of.
It's a recoverable problem because of my constant saving but what if the next file locks and the one after that? Each time more of my work gets lost.
I also dislike how anyone can just take whatever they want from your saved files. I would like to have the ability to share only the finished maps that are ready to be downloaded.

No privacy at all sucks.
At least they can't copy and edit them. Only bookmark them. When I try to edit someones file, I can't save it..

Dammit! Files are locking the moment I try to open them today.
Double dammit! Recent game films max out at 8. Now I can't watch what happened on my map last night. Those films are invaluable at times.

Thankfully, I have two XB1. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to do simple play tests like in old Halo. My wife helped me a bit.
If you need help in testing, let me know.

FYI.
The custom map file limit has been increased from 40 to 100.

We've just deployed an update to increase the amount of Halo 5 Map & Game Variants that you can save from 40 each to 100 each. Forge on!

Sheesh! Now it won't let me "Save as" a file.

Any way to have someone else come in and save the latest -- then retrieve from him/her?
After dinking around for quite awhile, my file finally unlocked/unglitched.
I love how game companies think gamers' creative time and efforts aren't worth proper protection.

Some of the map aesthetics people are creating are incredible. People can see things in the objects that are astounding.
