—–IMPORTANT DUST 514 BETA KEY INFO—–

Since a lot of people don’t understand how to go about getting a beta key mentioned in this post (there should still be plenty left as of this writing), here’s a step-by-step guide on what you need to do:

1. Go to PS Home. You should spawn in the E3 area. If not, head there.

2. Find the Dust 514 kiosk. There should be a really big Dust merc right outside the kiosk, near the stairs. Click on him** (**note: you may or may not need to complete the 12 E3 mini-challenges (found around that location) to unlock the ability to talk to the large Dust merc).

3. Download the Dust Warbarge room when the box pops up (called Event Horizon Lounge or something similar).

4. Talk to the recruitment officer once in the Warbarge who will tell you that to get a beta key, you’ll need to watch every video and win a game of Slay (the game of Slay does NOT need to be a multiplayer win). You might not technically need to speak to him first, but he’s got some game info you can browse through as well.

5. There are 4 videos right around the recruitment officer that give a short explanation of each of the 4 races–watch them. There are 2 videos above the bar on the side closest to the window facing the planet outside–watch them.

6. Go to the big room on the side of the bar opposite the recruitment officer (you’ll probably see a lot of players through the hallway). This is where the game Slay is. Play a single-player match and win (it may work for multiplayer too). It may take a few tries to get the hang of it, and reading the instructions first is recommended.

7. After you’ve won, go back to the recruitment officer. Don’t click on him, but instead look just behind and to the right of him (as you face away from the bar) and you should see a little area that looks like another video section. Go there. You should see a pop-up when you click on it that tells you that you’ve qualified for the Beta and it will give you a voucher code.

8. Go to the PS Store and find “Redeem Code” at the top right. Input the code you received in Step 7. Download the client.

Hope this helped. If you want to mention this post (or copy it verbatim) in yours to let people know how it’s done, please feel free.

OK,  just so you know, PS3 Dust 514 Open beta starts (eta) July 29.

The PS Home thing gives you access to the Closed beta which is going on now.

So far I managed to do all the E3 objectives which unlocked the Dust 514 booth, I watched the 4 videos and tried a game of Slay which I am trying to figure out.

** If any of you have tips on how to Play/beat SLAY single player PLEASE post ***

A.  Getting to PS Home and E3 virtual

 1.  log on your PS3, find and start the Playstation HOme thing.

 2.  accept all the legalese fine print and go through the forced intro - pick any old avatar and outfit you like.

 3. Each module of PS HOME requires a small download on first use - so head over to the E3 2012 section and start that up

if it doesn't send you there by default

 4. Walk to the front where you see the Host Christina Lee on a stage, to her right (your left) will be a bluish beam of light

get as close to the light as you can and wait til you get the "Press X for the E3 quest" prompt.

 5. Listen to her instructions and then go to where the next blue column of light is to start the first quest.

here is a youtube of what you'll be doing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfwLgGqyZ6s

Quests will usually consist of going to some game kiosk, listening to the advertisement/info, then either finding some items or taking a quiz.

sometimes you also have to take a photo next to one of the giant game figures.

just follow the columns of blue light for the objectives and return to the columns near the stage to either take the quiz or get the next objective.

for the reward items - you do NOT need to press Start to view and equip them.  just go on to the next quest.

Once you complete all the basic objectives,  the VIP ONLY roped off areas will be available and you can head to the Dust 514 booth and follow the directions on the 1st post.

Once you complete all the DUST 514 objectives, you can talk to the recruiter to get your Beta key.

You MUST START the quest at the first blue light and do them IN ORDER.

If you get stuck looking for items like the Hat, the boxing gloves and the hatchet, a blue light will appear where the item is located after about 1 or 2 minutes.

OK, those of you who made it through all that EXCEPT for winning 1 game of SLAY.

please post any tips or links on how to beat that SLAY minigame.

the instructions are not very good

Even on Single Player it doesn't make alot of sense on how you can build stuff and take over nearby hexes.

Multiplayer is pretty impossible unless you are boosting with buddies who purposely take turns loosing.

I hope you find what you're looking for in the Dust beta. It's doing nothing for me personally. I've been in the private for at least a month now.

Biznass - I'm just looking for a change from BF3,  this promised better sandbox combat so I gotta at least try it out

I know the NDA prevents discussion about the beta but I know pretty much Nothing about EVE or the Dust gameplay

other than the public trailers.

Let me know if you go into the Planetside 2 PC beta.  I'm not a PC gamer but if Dust 514 sucks I may try out PS2.

UPDATE for you folks who still doing the PS HOme E3 thing for the closed beta key.

You Do NOT need to win a game of SLAY.

just talk to the recruiter and view all the videos.  then,

I played played about 3 games of Slay, quit out of the first 2 games and played the 3rd game all the way through even though I lost.

when you start getting hammered, just do L1 end turn and let the computer players fight it out until one of them wins.

After that, go back to where the recruiter is near ther bar, and look for the Dust 514 recruitment screen, I think it's next to one of the Race videos.

Interact with it and it gave me my beta key, went out of PS Home and into account management to do the redeem code.

working on the 1.5 gb 1 hour download as I type.

well shoot,

even after the 1.5gb download there is another large Game update to download.

then after I restart I get the Dust beta to start and guess what?

you can only play during certain times.

so those of you doing the E3 PS Home stuff above - be aware that even if you get the key, download the game and the update, you may have to wait a couple of days before playing.

Yeah. That might be part of problem with the beta. I'm not excited enough to schedule time to play. I might have been hooked if I could play it when I was bored or needed a break for my usual rotation.

By "usual rotation" Biz means putting a gerbil in his bum and doing naked summersaults across the floor.
