ECM Mech

Hey, since our experiences of last weekend I was thinking about joining in the ECM fest with a lighter Mech, so that we could field more than one scout. I experienced on a few occasions A trio of Jenners with ECM and SSRM's that made quick work of me in my Catapault. I found the strategy annoying but effective and think that we with a bit of a learning curve on my part could do something similar. A couple of light Mechs with ECM big engines and SSRM's could swoop behind the enemy and start a cap to peel off defenders and very effectively handle any one who shows up. I am not suggesting a cap fest because I play the game to Blow Shit UP! So hopefully the scouts would use the cap as a distraction to lure a couple of dummies to their doom.

So the questions.

1. What light ECM capable Mech do you guys think would be effective in pairs or trios?

2. What light ECM Mechs are out there all ready?

3. Am I insane and asking to get repeatedly murdered for the enjoyment of all who spectate?

The mechs in question are the Cicada CDA-3M and the Raven RVN-3L IIRC.

I definitely agree that scouting has changed with ECM, and it's a good idea to have two ECM-equipped scouts rolling together. As to which mech, it depends. Gator and I had some success the other night running a pair of Cicadas. We'd both jam until we ran into a pair of similarly equipped Ravens, and one of us would switch to counter and the other continue jamming.

I think the same strategy would work with mixed Cicadas and Ravens, and with the Ravens, you get the added bonus of the streaks. A mixed scouting party might be effective because you get the armor and lasers of the Cicada and the missiles of the Raven. And I don't think what you're proposing is crazy at all, it's the right way to scout in the age of ECM IMHO!

3 Raven 3ls, 2ssrm2s and 3 lasers each is probably the optimal mix, loosing 1 laser for 2 ssrms seems reasonable for killing lights. The upside for  a cicada in there is the ability for a big gun to handle heavies and assaults, but 9 mediums and 6 ssrm2s should handle those rapidly. Now if we want to use the full on cheese build that some other teams are using we need to sync what movie we are streaming as well.

The one thing that's keeping me from taking the plunge and buying a RVN-3L is that I'm not sure I want to buy two more and work my way through the pilot tree. That's limiting in that I don't get speed tweak but at the speeds this thing runs that might not be the end of the world. I think I may have just talked myself into buying one. :)

OH, just realized, might be better to drop one of the MLs and put TAG on it.

Well, that'd be one advantage to running with a mixed group... I already have a TAG in my Cicada! :)

Yes, although I think tag on all 3 will prove to be better, if we focus target. Between 3 scaouts one of us should always have TAG on whoever we are focusing, even in a crowded, fast moving brawl.
