I wish I could give some good advice, but goddam I hate Mesmers. Killing one in WvW is near impossible due to actually being to find them among the crowd and their illusions once they stealth and run.
Their Phantasms are easy to spot, they are the ones that are glowing and ghost-like. Telling which ones are illusions is trickier but one thing to watch for is that Illusions don't dodge so if one of them starts rolling go for that one. Also, when downed and the Mesmer stealths, the second one to appear is the real one, the first is an Illusion.
Mesmers and Guardians can be so OP at times it can be frustrating. I started playing a Guardian and even at really low levels the survivabilty is insane. I can teleport into a crowd in WvW, throw down tons of AoE, get a kill or two, and almost always get out alive. If I tried that on my Thief or Warrior I'd be dead in seconds.
I'm doing ok in sPvP, which I've startted playing a lot of. I got a new build, Hammer gun Warrior. It's a pretty decent setup, I'm not sure how well it'll work in WvW though.
Nice, I might try that build on my Warrior. I'm still levelng mine but i've started running a Power, Prec, Toughness build for WvW and am loving it so far. Great damage and very surprising survivability. I use a Rifle and Greatsword or Axe/Axe.

I think the actual person has a red arrow above his head, but I haven't tested that theory IRL yet.
