Forza Aero question.

For sake of discussion let me set my question up this way.
With Forza Aero set at 75f/137r let's say the downforce starts kicking in at 60 mph.
If I set the aero levels to their max, will the aero start to kick in at a lower speed or would it still kick in at 60 mph but at a higher downforce level?
My rudimentary knowledge of physics thinks it should be the former, but it wouldn't surprise me if the game does the latter.

Here's why I'm asking.
I've made a tune for the Dare to Soar autocross event that I've been able to stick in the top 30 with a 2:29.8.
The interesting thing about this car is there isn't all that much that I can adjust on it. Aside from the brakes, aero, gearbox and diff the rest of the suspension is Sport.

I'm planning on upping the aero anyway for the high speed section at the very end of the lap but the car could use a little more front end grip for the slower corners/cones.  Just wondering if the additional aero will address that or if I should consider upgrading to race suspension to dial in the mechanical grip?  I'd like to see if I can knock off those eight tenths and break into the 2:28's.

Here's the rest of the tune settings.
Tire pressures - 30f/29r
Diff Accel and Decel are both at 25%.
Haven't touched the gearbox. I am actually quite happy with Forza's default ratios.

The tune is on my storefront if you want to take it for a spin and I will certainly gift it to anyone that wants it.

Hi mate I'm no scientist but in real word aero it's the speed of the air flowing over the wing that produces downforce. This would lead me to believe that your best option is mech grip or go faster lol. Try looking at your tyres first though, with your pressure settings are both tyres hitting 32 psi when at race temp, 32 psi tends to give peek grip.

For an autocross, top speed isn't important. Go for the aero & maximize lateral grip. The resulting pi drop from adding aero will probably allow you to also as=dd a race suspension I'd bet.

Watched my my lap.  Looks like the tire pressures come up to high 32's on the front and mid 31's on the rear by the end of the lap.  That's with starting pressures at 30f and 29r.  Interesting to see that the tire temps never even get green by the end of the lap.  I wonder how drag tires would do?

First things first.  I'll max out the aero and lower the front psi to 29 with the sport suspension and see what the car does.

If/when I do experiment with a full race suspension I'll probably have some questions on how to dial out push.  The tuning calc on MyForzaGarage is decent at coming up with a base line tune which 9 times out of 10 is all I'm looking for but the cars do tend to push.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably hook up the wheel Friday night and make another run or two.

If you go for the race suspension I would look at camber first (this is what I do) this ensures that when turning that the max surface of the tyre is in contact with the road ie giving most grip. Watch your tyre telem, positive camber is not good as your car is running on the outside of the tyre.

If you're interested, here are the baseline alignment settings I use on all of my builds...

Camber:

-1.0/-0.8

Toe:

+0.2/-0.3

Caster:

7.0=max

Maxed the aero out and tweaked the tire pressures on the sport suspension tune and ran a 2:27.9xx.

Upraded to race suspension and used Cotter suggestions and ran a 2:27.297. Good enough for 13th on the board.
