[Forza]Wednesday Night Rally Idea.

Hey all.  I wanted to open up some discussion on an idea I've proposed to a few of you that seemed to hold some interest.

I have in mind a sort of rally style series, and if there is interest I'd like to give it a shot.  I see that there isn't a scheduled Wednesday event for the US guys and would hope to fill in that role.  If this is something that is popular, I also have Wednesdays free and could in turn host it for you European and other Eastern group players, or you could take my idea and run it in another time slot that works for you since there is the Track Day event set up on Wednesdays over there.

The premise is pretty simple.  Rally in Forza.  More specifically, a working rally event.  I'm not sure if you lot are aware, but Forza doesn't make rallying very easy.  I think I have a way around it, that will be both fun and interesting, if not a little time intensive.

This is the system:
Lobby is created using a two bucket system.  Bucket A is the rally class, and Bucket B is the chaser/host class.  Since the host has to be present for the race, he could run in either a much slower or faster car that is set to leave the grid second.  The slower car makes more sense, but the faster may be ultimately more fun.  That will be up for discussion below.  All racers with the exception of the host will be placed in the A bucket.  The catch comes in that each racer will individually run a solo pass on the designated track.  This means that only one player and the host will be on the racing surface at a time.  The other players can either wait in the lobby or spectate the pass.  Each run will be scored individually and certification of the lap will not affect the position, only the time it takes from start to finish.  A simulation damage setting would be ideal to persuade players to stay off the walls and hopefully negate relatively unclean passes.  Once the player has completed their pass, they may stay and spectate or hang out in the room or leave.  This will take some time especially if the room is full, but a multiple host system may be implemented to speed things along.

This is a necessity because Forza's roll off delay on Point to Point circuits is broken.  One can not accurately time a pass with the roll off delay and calculating to the hundredth or even tenth is nigh impossible without someone running a stopwatch at the start and finish.

The initial spec proposed is:

PI of B500
Production Cars from 1992 or older.
Engine upgrades: No RACE parts
Platform & Chassis: All platform and chassis parts are legal, with the exception of race weight reduction.
Drivetrain: All drivetrain parts are legal with the exception of race transmissions.
Wheels & Tires: All wheels and tires are legal with the exception of slick tires; only treaded rubber in any size or rim.
Aero: All aero is legal, with the exception being downforce; No ADJUSTABLE downforce.
Engine & Drivetrain Swaps: Illegal.

There are no other restrictions, and FWD, AWD, and RWD are allowed and will be scored the same at this point in time.

If this sounds fun, or if you have other ideas that may improve the way this would be run, or you just want to discuss anything listed further, please leave some comments.  I will happily host and handle all logisitics with getting this up and running, and if it takes off, have other specs waiting in the wings.

Now that the idea is out there, I find myself torn on the idea of whether the host should drive a fast or slow car.  Fast would mean that there are interesting replay opportunities with the faster car acting as a chase camera.  The problem comes in that said car could potentially crash the rally driver out(it happened tonight in testing and I'm sorry Chris and Skippy).

The slower car is boring but safe.  The host need only be around to record the finishing time for the rally driver in either instance, and I am personally ok with either fast or slow host car.

If the idea saw positive turnout and the room got too full or even had more than 16 competitors, rooms could be broken down to speed the process up.  As it is, it took approximately 20 minutes to run 4 cars in a testing scenario.  If hosts were well seasoned, it may reduce the time it takes to run a group of four significantly.  If we broke down into two rooms of 8 I predict it would take about 40 minutes to an hour to run 16 cars the first time, assuming the spec and the stage of Fujimi Kaido New Uphill were used.

As far as the specs go, I trust you lot to act in good faith on the honor system, and would not have proposed the idea if I didn't.

So, what do you think?  If you're interested I'd be more than happy to set up and show you how it would work tonight after the NSX racing is finished.  Thanks for reading my book! :D

Good Idea bro.

Just fyi, there's no need to make folks sit in the lobby waiting for their pass. You can just put a roll off delay between cars &stagger the roll off just like a real rally.

Timing doesn't work right with a roll off on point to point tracks. Otherwise, I'd agree.

Sounds like a cool idea.  Hopefully you get enough interest to see it through.  My Wedsnesdays are pretty much booked solid w/ V8 Supercars, Historic TA, Rolex GT & DTM in rFactor (PC), otherwise I'd probably check in for a round or two.  1

This would also be a cool idea for Forza horizon when it hits. Then you could really do some open road style rallying.

I guess it really just depends on whether or not we have the ability to create custom events and how that works out.  I'm also waiting to find out if we have roads as twisty as Fujimi.  So far, I haven't seen any.

**just a thought **

"COMPARE LAP TIMES" can set the winner but that would mean that the 1st lap is a wash and only the second lap would count

Scenario:

Everyone starts and does one lap and stops before the start and finish line and lines up off the TRACK

Then one car leaves as directed by the HOST

Once that car finished their lap the next one lines up and so forth

The timer will have to be set o MAX so that everyone can have a chance to get their LAP time scored and you can make it a 2 lap race

It works but everyone is required to run a complete lap before we even start the event.  Given that there isn't much interest it may be more feasible this way, but with a full lobby that quickly becomes a nightmare.  Also the first lap would have to be ran cautiously at a place like Fujimi because I would really like for damage to stay on for the event.
