Back but not back...

We finally finished the work on our house that we started in February and I've got some space to plug in the XBox.

Disaster! I've got nowhere to put the pedals and the wheel at the moment. The office is all new and shiny and my wife isn't keen on me to drilling a hole in the desk to mount my Fanatec.

So, if you see me online, apologies if I don't take up any invites. If I'm in Forza it's probably because I'm trying to get my head round driving with a controller until I work out where to put the rest of the kit.

On the upside, I've finally resolved my long running network problems. This may be of interest to you if you're in a new build house in the UK.

Our BT master socket lived on the ground floor. We then had a secondary line with a different phone number in the office (carrying the Internet connection). The secondary line upstairs was run from the master line downstairs.

Now, apparently, it's relatively common practice to run the master phone cable from the street directly up to the attic, then drop it back down through the cavity wall. So, my Internet cable was effectively running up to the roof, down to the ground floor, then back upstairs to the office (I reckon this must have been over thirty metres in all). As a result, the signal was exceedingly pants (I barely scraped an intermittent 2Mbit on a upgraded connection which should have given 8Mbit).

When the builder refitted the house, they moved the master socket directly to the office, massively reducing the run length of the cable. I now get a reliable 3MBit on a normal (non 8Mbit) connection.

So, there you are. Good internet, no wheel. The Devil farts in my face once more.

Rant over. I hope you're all well.

I've not touched the console for a while so if anyone's got any recommendations for games not requiring a wheel, I'd be interested to hear them.

I saw the result of the work on Facebook Nardact, looks fantastic! :)

Glad to see you back and always willing to give you some tips for the controller.

Thanks. Think I'll have to look into one of those Fanatec wheel stands. In for a penny, in for a pound.

If their website ever comes back, of course. They've been offline all weekend 'upgrading their capacity'.
