Buy Halo 4 Standard Edition - Get Limited Edition Bonus
According to an email sent to the email address associated with my gamertag, players who buy the Standard Edition version of Halo 4 will get access to all specializations early just as if they had bought the Limited Edition, so long as they play the game on Xbox Live Gold by November 20th.
I'm not happy about this as it devalues the Limited Edition I've already paid off in full.
Edit: Picture of the email section:
So that means LE owners only get a 14 day head start on the one specialization they pick if they were lucky enough to get to level 50 on the Nov. 6. Sounds pretty dumb.
I saw NeoGAF complaining about something but I ignored it. I see what it must have been.
Well, I'm getting LE for the DLC stuff...sooooooo...it doesn't matter :)
For what DLC stuff? For the map packs that'd be cheaper if you'd bought them seperately with a Standard Edition game?
And they are going to sell the "all-access" pass for the maps for $25. So the Limited Edition now only includes the Forward Unto Dawn stuff.
Glad I pre-ordered the vanilla edition.
I know that if not for the LE I would get the Blu-ray FUD movie, so the LE is still a small deal. Not as big a deal as I had been made to understand a few months back.
I think this stems from the confusion over specializations.
LE loses value, but maybe they sell more games. Kinda tired of this kind of thing. Maybe add something back into the LE to make up for it, code card for armor/weapon skin.
I'm guessing that most LE pre-o's were filled, so now it was safe to announce this . I don't approve of the tactic, but I'm fine with everyone being on more level territory sooner.
that's pretty shitty.
So should I get rid of my LE order and get standard with the maps? Are the coop episodes included with the map pack or just the LE? I need to knows. :)
Up to you.
Neither. Everyone who buys any copy of Halo 4 gets free access to Spartan Ops.
I swear that I read that only the first few episodes or installments would be free....
They're called LIMITED for a reason! 343 shouldn't have caved to people complaining about the Limited Edition living up to its name.
Wonder why everyone on XBL didn't get that email. I certainly didn't. Could it be a spoof? I checked Waypoint and saw nothing about this in the News or Forums. Hmmm......
When I posted in the thread on Waypoint's forums a bit ago, it was 33 pages long so uhhh it is either deleted or you should look again :)
Also I took that image from MY email, and uploaded it myself. Other people who started threads elsewhere used other images.
It's not a spoof or me joking around.
When I said spoof I meant the sender. Where in the Waypoint forums did you post? I am still having problems finding anything about it.

Ok. Thanks. See it now. You would think they would pin something like that. I actually went out and googled Standard Edition and found info on this:
http://www.examiner.com/article/all-halo-4-specializations-can-be-unlocked-by-playing-the-game-early
Looks like all the specializations will be available to SE users who play when they reach Level 50 instead of just 2. That appears to be the change. LE still gives you all the additional map packs which appears now to be not so much of a deal since SE buyers can get them all for $24.99 on launch day. Talk about a bait and switch.
It is very possible that microsoft sent me the email which went into my junk folder and I emptied the folder without really looking.
Maybe they are targeting people in blocks.
I agree that this is shitty of them to promote it as something only the LE would get and then change that less then a month before the game comes out. Part of the reason for the LE (at least in my case) was getting the specializations early. If I had know this upfront, I might have elected to get the SE instead and saved myself the extra money.
The more I read thru the forum thread that Autarch mentioned (now up to 38 pages) the more pissed off I got. Now it appears that purchasing the map pack in the marketplace gives one access to two helmets not available to LE buyers. So, in summary if you purchase SE and the map pack in the marketplace you get the game and the DLC for $15 less than if you purchase LE. What you don't get are the full length Forward Until Dawn and a few digital skins. Geez.. Definitely thinking about cancelling my LE order and going SE.
This what happens when marketing muddies the water without any concern for how the players perceives the results.
Well guys just think - the extended cut of Forward Unto Dawn will likely be a code to redeem to watch it through Xbox. In other words, streaming quality. So if you wanted to watch it in a higher quality - get it on Blu Ray. If you don't mind streaming quality - there will be tons of ways to watch it post launch anyways without shelling out money.
Simply put - we're getting a 40 dollar UNSC pamphlet.
I don't understand the $40 dollar quote though. You still have to pay $25 for the Map Pass. That is an option you can avoid if you don't like Halo 4. Of course the thought of not getting Halo 4 DLC Maps doesn't actually fit in my head. ;)
The SE/$59.99 + Map Pass/$25 saves you $15 over the LE. The Blu-Ray of FUD is $29. I have yet to read it is the extended version, though I expect it is.
you also get the map packs, which will probably be $12 apiece. So that's $40 there with tax.
Actually, all 3 DLC map packs can be bought for $24.99 on release day thru the marketplace which means SE + map packs will be $84.99 plus maybe tax depending on where one buys them. So if you don't care about the FUD full length video or the other minor goodies with LE, then that might be the way to go, which btw is what has some of the LE buyers in an uproar because that was not obvious when LE was first introduced. Oh well.
Really? Where was this info disseminated? I keep up on gaming news and I never saw it when I was preordering. Ugh.
One of the Halo Bulletins, me thinks.

Wasn't that hard to miss if you weren't looking. Didn't even know about it until Autarch started this thread and I started search the interwebz.
