The link is bad on Waypoint. At least, it was when I clicked on it earlier. If they are big maps, then that sucks. Clearly, we need a preponderance of huge maps.
Although I will say that the best maps in Halo 4 are small/medium Forge maps. Simplex really is a damned good map.
Edited to add: The link is working now. Massive, massive meh. The Oddball shot towards the end looks like it was on a smaller map, or a smaller section of one of these huge maps, though.
Yeah it looked like two bigs and a small to me based on first glance.
Also lots of beautiful skyboxes and dynamic elements which thrill the shit out of me and cause some seething hatred amongst the performance minded.
The one big they showed multiple exteriror shots of looks like a nice forge palette too. That's nice, I'm frankly unimpressed with that aspect of the game so far. I know the palette's pre-forge world tended to be underlit and confined, but this iteration clearly needs some more versatile space to work with.
Simplex is good for what it is but could be built literally anywhere. I want some more landscape to work off of.
visually look pretty. Too bad they thought they needed 11 btb maps for H4. I would have hoped for a more even distribution.
We play BTB almost exclusively, and Exile, Ragnorok and LongBow seem to be the only three maps we play on. With that being said we don't have any map packs purchased/downloaded for the 360 we're playing on, safe to assume there's at least a few in there we should get?

If you can swing it, get the whole Map Pack Pass. At least you'll be able play on whatever the host is trying to load up.
These new BTB maps 'look like' they could be easy to navigate. I am totally guessing they will be fun to play on.

In the first map pack (first map pack) there is Harvest, Shatter and Wreckage (all btb maps), and from what I have seen on the new videos the newest maps will also be btb as well. The other ones that you might not see or get voted for (that are on the disc) are Complex, Meltdown and Vortex. Complex is pretty much only in non btb specific playlists but it can handle 8 on 8.
so, might be done with the series. I stopped caring about this game in January. They can't seem to understand the type of maps that the players that actually stick around want. And I don't only mean small symmetrical - but there needs to be an even distribution.
There's Longbow, Wreckage, Ragarok, Vortex, Meltdown, Exile, and Shatter. That's 7 plus these new 2 or 3 for a total of 9-10. Not sure where the 11+ are coming from.

Harvest. So 2 map packs of BTB sized maps. Had I known this beforehand, Limited edition would not have been purchased, or the map pass.

That's because people only vote for the same 2-3, you also have some hiding away in Dominion, or at least they are wieghted higher there.
The whole map philosophy for the game is completely asinine. They include three pre-made forge maps on the disk but exclude them from matchmaking only to release them later as "New Map XX."
Certain Affinity is one of the saddest things to happen to the Halo franchise.

+1 They've made nothing that I like.
I totally agree with you both. Halo 4 has been one of the biggest disappointments in gaming history for me. I guess I won't be getting that Terminal remake I was hearing about. I'll probably just tough this one out, play off and on and throw in the towel on the Halo franshise when Halo 5 comes out. More Street Fighter in my future I guess.

Sure as hell isn't a small map. I haven't played it, but would you say it's Standoff-ish in nature and size?
Eh, not really, for 2 reasons:
1. Harvest isn't wide enough. On Standoff, even with btb, you could make pushes along the outer parts of the map (mongoose, hog, camo, etc). With Harvest, making a push with 16 people on the map is difficult as you set up 3 people on each side (6) and have the other 2 roaming back and forth. The middle hallways to the enemy's base become deathtraps due to their funneling nature with little room for escape.
2. Like Standoff, Harvest only plays decent with 16 if everyone has a BR. DMR's, light rifles, and snipers make movement nearly impossible.
Harvest 8 v 8 CTF with static weapons and no personal ordnance is a good time. I don't think it's an all that interesting slayer map, and is WAY too big for 4 v 4.
As for Certain Affinity, they produced the best developer made map in the game: Skyline. Skyline's only problem are the MM gametypes played on it.

Haven called and wants to fight you on that point.
I'm sure all of these map packs (and the size of the maps) were planned out well in advance. The latest Crimson map pack was ALL small maps, so why all the sadface?
I mean, BTB is the single most populated playlist, so you have to figure more BTB maps were to come. Again, not that it would have mattered as these maps were surely designed months ago.

Truth be told, I think it's more because it's at the top of the list. Now. I'm not saying you could put Throwdown up there and it would automatically have the most players, but you can't just assume they develop maps for the most populated playlist. We don't have a griffball map pack coming out, and that's a pretty popular playlist.
Harvest is most assuredly BTB. Just because it doesn't show up in the playlist all the time doesn't make it not true. It's one of those that 'can' work for 4v4 up to 8v8. Same is true for Exile, Ragnarok, and Settler. It isn't exclusive BTB, but it's an option, so it is counted.

Not even remotely close to the truth. The same thing gets said over and over for each Halo and yet highly populated playlists are further down the selection list. A simple example is Infection for REACH. It equalled Team Slayer on many days yet was down the selection list. Throwdown is way down the list yet excelled for a few days. People are aware of all the playlists and eventually return to their favorites. If you made a game, wouldn't you put what you think the most populated playlist would be at the top of a selection list?
First! I love BTB maps. :)

No purple covie map in any of the map packs...
I was hoping we'd finally get a covie map.
Some folks on Reddit mentioned that they looked a little Reach-y. Does anyone else get that impression?
More bullshit that isn't needed.
Ugh.

Well to be failr there is some need for a few BTB maps.
There are, as someone stated, 11 BTB maps. Most of the maps are BTB. Not sure what you mean.
