I had the same feelings as Fire watching that 2 minute trailer. Hogs, Ghosts and Mechs. Not suitable for the kind of Halo I like which is symmetrical 4vs4 comp. slayer. Reading through the threads, I think most of us know exactly why this is happening. It's not a matter of 343 taking our money and running with it or not caring about Halo, they are simply answering the call of the numbers.
More people play BTB than basically anything else, Slayer Pro has almost no one playing in it, and in general the BTB crowd are usually happy with what they get where as the Comp. community tends to be more vocal about the things that are broken than the things that work. Coming from what I dig about Halo, this is the sad truth of the the matter. Comp. Halo atleast from the developer side is something they put up with but it's not what butters their bread. That said, I don't think H4 is a bad game by any means. I think Sprint and the long range DMR forces the maps to be larger than they were in any previous Halo game and that's just something we have to get used to. The 5vs5 objective games can be a lot fun under the proper map and settings and I think with the larger maps, 5's actually work pretty well.
I almost feel like for the Comp. people to enjoy this Halo, we are going to have to change our view of what Comp Halo is. 5vs5 instead of 4vs4 due to the larger maps. Some allowance for ordinance because I think some of ordinances still work really well and give the game a new twist. Some sort of delayed spawns and some spawn fixing. These are all things that can be tweaked so while the map pack doesn't excite me, the game still has loads of potential.

There was talk of this happening in Reach. Not sure why they didn't bite the bullet and do it. The game was too slow in generic settings 4v4.
I'm definitely a fan of the smaller 4v4 and 5v5 maps and agree that we need more of them. I'm not going to make too much judgement until I see the maps but my intial reaction was the same as yours.
I actually created my first 4v4 map in forge and hope to test it out soon. Perhaps it will be good enough to add to everyone's rotation.
More info? Love to play user created maps and what better than a 2o2p map especially of if its of the 4vs4/5vs5 variety. Links, screenshots etc please.

Talk to 343 about getting any of that available without someone capturing stills in forge and then rendering to jpg...instead of having it on PC through waypoint...
Reminds me of Standoff. At it's core a great looking map, but has a lot of extra fluff on the outside to make room for BTB gametypes. I hope it will work for 5v5 and 4v4 gametypes well enough.
I agree but having played a bit of H4 now I think the style we want is dead. Sprint and DMR have extended the mid-range combat to ridiculous lengths like 5 shotting across the width of Ragnarok I don't think you could have much fun on Midship now. Ordinance means that both teams have two or three power weapons on the go by mid game. Thats why Zealot and Haven have to be sort of circular to shorten the sight lines down.

This man knows what he's talking about.

it is also safe to assume that the second map pack is when they will release the talked about ranked stuff. At least that is my theory.
Says the guy who claimed H4 would launch the new xbox...your words mean nothing to me :)
Well technically a New Xbox was launched with H4...Just sayin'
Technically I was right like I always am and you still have'nt fessed up to how insanely wrong you are.

VERY disappointed in 343i...trust us they said...
More like they took our money and ran.
I am going to test it within my clan first to work through the kinks. Once I feel that it is stable and ready to go I will post images/downloads/etc.
