Just running through some tracks?. if that's what you call them.
What a BLAST I'm having. I really suck so I'm running the races on casual and still not winning. Will have to relearn the default controls because the game doesn't let me set up the controls like FM. I normally use the right analog stick for my acc/brake function but can't in D2. The 1st time I nailed a turn using the e-brake on one of the Utah courses 180 degree turns was so sweet. Cockpit with the visual damage for now. But more challenging damage when I get better. And still trying to figure if my hands will be able to handle the MT stuff (slight CT issue). But even if not I will love this with just AT. Have left the #2 post empty for some race info if the interest is here. All advice and info are very welcome.
Reserved for possible competition results.
I need to find the game out today and boot her up.
Will post back how I find it later.
5% into the game. Dropped the difficulty to easy so I could grab some more cash. But really know that the way to learn the courses is to run some one offs aka, hot laps with races to follow. Hard to learn these things without some prep work. Plus I get to see how bad I compare to others on the leaderboards. Enjoyed NOT using the rewind assist. That is for kittykats. And a game that doesn't require me to use my brain for tuning. Easy settings.
Like the courses where the codriver shouts the directions for the course details. Saw the TG episode the James May did with the Bentley Continetal on the rally course.
Was online in a room with 3-5 others trying to learn the system. Had fun in a room and was invited to a party and immediately mentioned that I was a N00b and would try to stay out of their way. That was not their worry. It was a change from my FM3/4 experiences. They loved the banging. And proceeded to show me their enthusiasm. I will have to change gear and go along with the demolition routine.
But I will still tinker with the full sim part. I think that it could add a fun RL factor to it. Bang your car at the beginning and you are toast.
24% through career mode. I see a Time Trial on the Horizon (pun intended). I'll throw out the first one
and then one of you others who actually participate can follow. Low key. Just as long as I keep winning.
Fun being a dirt(y) whore as insanerc calls me. But he's a wimp who had the game but got rid of it because it was probably too tough for him.
Nice to see you on D2 the other day Church. I'm at about 35% on my season play. Have tried to run the rookie races and work my way up in difficulty. Started at easy then casual now on serious AI. And have been using the full sim? feature. These cars can take a beating and keep ticking. Did a multiple car roll and all I got was a mild wheel damage icon. Lol. Having a ball. I have found some tuning settings on YouTube. I'll pass them to you. But have not used them yet. Am mildly disappointed that you can not do night races in a public room setup (can we?) that I can figure out. And that you can not just run your online races until people if any jump in like the FM series. Waiting for people to jump in before the race starts is a bummer. But I hope that's not the case with D3.
Ziggy_Proline and insanerc would hate this game because there is not a brake line feature
. You really have to concentrate. But I like where they have put the track map. Running in cockpit view is a challenge to say the least. I love the fact that I don't know the tracks. I remember my early days with Nurburgring on GT4 and the surprise factor that when you were running it you really didn't know where every turn and bump was.
And am going to setup my wheel on a stand in the near future. It will be cheap but functional.
Lets use this one Oldmodelt as its the original!
Had another go on her last night for an hour or 2.
Did some silly mistakes last night that caused me to restart a few times BUT watching my car roll over 15 times while shedding parts as it goes in super slow motion was awesome!!!
I need to look at the multiplayer side of things tonight and if we are able to save replays. We could do a Dirt 2 Time event?
Okay, the Boss (ChurchPro) says this is the one.
As was said in a previous post by someone I don't think you can save and post to a SF. If and when we run a race/TT it will be on the honor system. I can't see a problem. It has always been a mystery to me as to why someone would want to cheat. It's a game. Her is a link to the YouTube video on tuning. Bear in mind that I have no idea if these are any good. Maybe the others from the D2 group can give us some guidance.

And have upped the AI to the savage difficulty.
Now at 40% SP completed.
Guidance you shall receive...
I've been racing in Dirt leagues for quite a while, so if you're looking for an example on how to run an event, I'll break down how we've always ran things.
So, on keeping track of positions/final times, the Dirt lobbies hold 8 players. If we have more people that decide to join in on the fun, we'll obviously run multiple lobbies. One person in charge of setting up each lobby, pretty typical stuff, just like in Forza. So whatever we decide to run, whether it be circuit type races or point to point, the final standings can be recorded through memory or a screenshot can be taken with a cell phone or something. The person in charge can then be notified of the results. Also, when we do a rally or trailblazer, everyone can run in the same stage. You can set up the lobby as a traditional staggered start with intervals between cars, or it can be set up so ghosts are on and all the cars start the stage at the same time and run all together.
As far as tuning goes I'll have to really dust off my brain for this, it's been a long time, and my Dirt3 set ups are a little bit different...
ModelT, I watched the tuning video, I don't really agree on most of his set ups...
Vehicles & Tuning: One thing about Dirt is that for each type of racing, there is usually one vehicle that is ridiculously faster than all the rest. So if vehicle selection is left open in an event, you need to be in the fast cars to be competitive. Also an easy way to describe tuning is a number system. This works simply by counting the notch placement from the left. So basically from 1 to 5, and you just go down the list from gear ratio to brake balance. Now, to see if I can remember the fastest cars and tuning...
*Keep in mind these are baseline tunes and they may seem a bit strange, but trust me, they work.
Rallycross - Ford RS200 - Tune: 2, 5, 1, 1, 5, 2 "The DRC Dirt2 special"
shhhh lol
Rally - Ford Escort MKII OR '95 Subie STi - Tune: 3, 4, 2, 2, 5, 2
Trailblazer - Dallenbach - Tune: 2, 5, 2, 2, 5, 2
Trucks - Toyota - Tune: 3, 5, 3, 3, 5, 2
Buggies - PRC1 (I think...) - Tune: 3, 5, 3, 3, 5, 2
Baja - Honda Ridgeline - Tune: 3, 5, 2, 2, 5, 2
Raid - Mitsubishi Pajero Dakar - Tune: 3, 5, 2, 2, 5, 2
Like I said in a previous post, I mostly did Rallycross and Rally, but my set up suggestions on everything else should be pretty solid.
Hope that helps!
I really enjoy the mad dash events aswell!
Although the Billboards are are night mare!
I too own Dirt 2 now ($5 USD can't be beat) and would be interested in doing some online with you guys. Rally and Rally Cross are my favorites thus far. I hate anything with anything else. Don't know why, I just do. Probably because I love the rally part so much. "OH SHIT BABE! DID YOU SEE THAT? I JUST DID 2 BARREL ROLLS AND FLIPPED MY CAR 3 TIMES HEAD OVER HEELS!" and she can be heard saying "HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STUPID DRIVING GAME?" Hell, I'm excited every crash. Probably why she hates when I play it.
I love the damage physics in this game, and the sense of speed is great too.
Lets get day and time so we can all get together and play some Dirt!
Church, I don't think there's a way to save replays in multiplayer unless of course someone streams on their computer. Then again it's been a while since I played Dirt2.
Cool fact. My little race team, DRC, was born in Dirt2. We specialized in Rallycross, we became sort of legends in the Rallycross scene in the game. People knew us as some of the fastest in the world. Small crew though, only 5 members. 4 of us guys scattered across the states, and 1 insanely fast girl in France. The legacy continues in Dirt3 as well.
Good to see interest in the group here
Sounds like a plan lads!
I know there is a few more people on here with the game but maybe they don't want to give Dirt2 any love as they all have Dirt 3.
Only reason I did not get Dirt 3 was because I bought the wrong one and got Dirt 2 lol.
Parcells never throws away games so I still have this one. Rallycross with Buggys...need I say more?
Same numbering system I gleaned from the YouTube video. 2,2,2 etc. But will print off yours and keep it handy. Must have turned my machine off before game auto saved last time and all my stuff disappeared into the ethernet. Had to start over again. No big deal. Still have all the achievements from before and just had to download the cars and stuff again. Also kept track of the races I've already run so I know where to pick up from if I want to. The games fun so doing the 1st 40% stuff over won't kill me.
There is an option to race online with others but they are ghosted. Have done that a few times. That way they(me) don't get in the way. I found it helpful on the PTP races.
Yeah man, those cars and a few others are bonus unlockable cars you recieve for completing certain objetives.
I'm not saying I played this game a lot but is the only game i've played that I got 1000/1000 gamerscore.
Better than me. I've never gotten a perfect achievement score in any game.
Parcells neither. Not really expecting to either...Mass Effect 1 has been a killer for me, plan on finishing it before the end of the year, Skyrim Fall of 2014 seems doable. I could go on and on...
Multiplayer seems pretty easy to do.
We just get in a party and run a jam session i believe.
We can choose what we want to do ect
Thats exactly how it works - Host chooses jam session
Count Parcells in on the Dirt 2 action but all this practise and tuning verbiage you guys are throwing about is foreign to me. Its just driving cars on dirt man, like when you were a kid?
Where you go Oldmodelt???
You send me a XBL PM then go offline!!
Was never really online. Was on my computer and just happened to jump onto the Live website. You would have slaughtered me. Not having the xbox turned on, game in, beer in hand. Stuff like that. Best time for me unfortunately is the late pm - early am, which doesn't bode well for you Europeans over the pond. That would be almost when it's time for you guys to get up and about for the day.
However, it's a darn sight better than the game of chess I tried to do through the mail about 35 years ago. Make a move and mail it. Wait 1-2 weeks for their move. Make another one, etc. Toughest part was keeping the chessboard intact. Gave up after a 2 months. My little brother knocked over the pieces one day and I couldn't figure where the game was.
Pretty much have done all the races I did prior to my game data being erased. But noticed that I'm only at about 4-5 complete now. It's because I'm doing the AI difficulty on Savage this time through and having a fun time trying not to wreck my cars on full damage. Thanks for the settings drivebye. I am using them.
Was on last night for a few hours. This really is quite fun. Maybe parcells can get a race for us to do or something?
