DMR v BR v Carbine v LR
Ok, so, how are these different in H4? I keep reading a bunch of stuff about them but no one really agrees on DMR v BR.
DMR removes bloom or not? BR has none or some or lots? Anyone with any real insight? My accuracy isn't the best, so the BR burst might be better for me at all ranges... I've always been a fan of the Covenant weapons, so the Carbine will probably be my first choice even if its not the best. The Light Rifle is supposed to have the quickest time to kill when zoomed... So, anyone have any experience or reports from someone they trust?
As a aside, they say this needler will be the most powerful yet. I love the needler.
DMR - very little bloom, but still some bloom
BR - like H3's br minus leading shots (H4 BR is hitscan). 1st bullet is always on target, the other 2 tend to be more random
Carbine - fastest firing gun compared to dmr, br, and light rifle
Light Rifle - BR-like when not scoped (3-round burst), DMR-like when scoped (1-shot burst). And from what I've heard, you are correct with regards to the light rifle having the quickest kill time when scoped.
BR has slight recoil too, right?
Those are all quite powerful.
Some people will settle on a weapon just for its sound and visual characteristics. Confidence in the weapon can come from these attirbutes and a player will do better if it suits them.
I'll have to settle on spread and automatic weapons probably. I am a terrible shot, my timing sucks and must be relearned after two days and I tend to over control with resulting pilot induced occilations. God I'm terrible. :(
Pretty sure I can get someone's goat with AC and a Sniper though. ;)
You can try ;)
They will all be equal eventually, something will get nerfed. Which is why I'm probably going to stick with the DMR or BR. If the BR plays like the H2 BR it will be a thing of beauty.
I know the scoped LR is a 4-shot kill, but I believe it's rate of fire is reduced.
Also, watching some gamplay from two pro EGL teams facing off, they all seemed to be using the DMR. A no-bloom DMR is a very powerful and accurate weapon - add in a whole team of competent shooters and the kill times were pretty quick. The BR guys didn't stand a chance.
Overall, I think it will come down to what people like to use and what is most useful on a given map.
Something to consider when choosing between BR and DMR -
BR magazine has 36 rounds = 12 shots
H4 DMR magazine has 14 rounds = 14 shots
Yeah, I really can't see a reason to use the BR (unless your accuracy is really bad like mine) if it has a smaller clip. I'll still probably use the carbine, just because I like the covy weapons.
But ofr Br v DMR, Both are 5 shot. Both take same ttk, one has slight bloom, one has bullet spread and recoil. The BR has drawbacks at range, but I don't see that the DMR has drawbacks up close. If it has a larger clip... Also seems like in set teams that team shoot, a few folks should carry carbines for higher ROF (thus quicker possible head shots)?
heh, and searching, I see there was another thread here on the exact same topic a month ago. I will search next time before posting. ;). Sorry.

With all these different weapons seamingly being similar, I'll be playing Customs just to figure out which works best for me. Too many choices. KISS philosophy works. Still waiting for a MOAB/Nuke gift package in the near future.
Any word of that being in the campaign?
Word is, its in but handles very differently. aka you don't designate a wraith.
I unlocked the DMR first, and used that until Rank 22 at which point I only use Light Rifle now. If I'm at long range, Light Rifle does most damage. DMR is very very good, and probably edges out the LR in close quarters, but the BR is the worst of the three.
And yes the needler is amazing, and I will drop a BR or SAW to pick up a needler anytime.
Man, this is really disappointing. I was hoping that with the return of the hitscan BR, it was going to be the go-to primary weapon.
Watching some of the various H4 live streams, the DMR appears to routinely outperform the BR at all ranges. Hype reduced from 10 to 9.7.
Yep, I was there and also able to get in some 30 games worth. DMR definitely outperforms the BR at long range. Close to medium is a tossup, no real advantage of one over the other. So, since the DMR is better at range and equal to the BR at close and medium, DMR is the weapon of choice.
If any of you Forgers out there could make an Octagon map, let me know. Forge just wasn't my thing and I'd rather be playing than murdering a map. Pm me or something and we can get together to make it happen. I'm sure there's a bunch of players here who would like this too.
Awww...come on Deep. You know you're the Man!
Agreed. I'd love an Octagon map.
I've just played campaign so far, but the DMR and Carbine are pretty nice.
And maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find any sound adjustment settings... Maybe I've screwed something up, but all of the weapons sound weak to me.
As far as DMR vs BR goes, i think the BR has a slightly higher rate of fire. It might just be my imagination. But for now, I keep 2 loadouts, an all-purpose one that I use the BR for and another one that uses the DMR for larger maps.
I bought the carbine and DMR first for MP. Carbine has a silly high ROF. The DMR seems to do well on big outdoor maps. The light rifle acted strange to me in the campaign. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
And yes, the new needler is awesome. You dont have to wait for shields to drop for a super combine. I always select it for my ordinace drop if it is available (unless there is overshield). I have had mixed sucess with the SAW, but people have been eating me alive with it. Seems to be a bit more accurate than I thought.
I'm loving the DMR and pistole.
