Engineer?

Anyone play an engineer? What is a good map to practice engineer skills? I find that my RPG do little damage to tanks so I use them up or get killed trying to blow them up. Also I never find my teams vehicles needing repair. They are usually in perfect health or blown up. I just started it today so I may just be a noob! Tongue out

Shot placement on tanks is crucial for maximizing damage.  You do the least damage attacking from the front and it increases as you go back the sides down to the threads, and finally maximum damage for an ass shot.  Engineer is a great kit to learn how to play as it is more of a "jack of all trades" role than a highly specialized role like recon.

Awesome! Thank you very much. I've been just shooting anywhere so knowing that more damage is done on the assend will help. I usually play Halo so its prety cool learning these trades. Engineer does seem like a good one to learn,

Awesome keep in mind that there is a minimum arming distance for the RPG. If you're standing too close, it does a lot less damage than from further away. I've only seen the 2D damage maps for the tanks, but I think hitting the turret itself does more damage as well, that's what I usually aim for.

Thats cool to know. Had no idea that distance matters. I have out that the little torch I have is pretty awesome for destroying things if I get real close.

One more noob question. Is there something I need to turn on to talk and listen to other players besides pluging in the earphons and mic? In all the groups I've been in the last few days nobody has said a word so there is no coordination going on. Granted I'm just in pick-up groups but in Halo you always have people talking even if its utter shit talk! Thanks!

Just hop on in the evenings and join one of the groups of PPC players. There's usually about 7 or 8 on. Friend me if you want (UoMDeacon), though I won't be playing for at least the next 2 weeks since ME3 is releasing tomorrow ;)

Sounds cool. Will friend you when I get home later. I will be getting ME3 also but will have to hold off playing it till the 29th. I will be away from the 18-28th and don't want to even start it before I get back. Starting then having to stop will be painful!laugh

If you play on XBOX, friend me (Mikee221).  I am always looking for people to squad up with who actually talk.

The butt shot on a tank will do 50% damage with 1 hit. If you have the Jav unlocked and a friend to lazer designate the target for you,you can hit tanks from pretty far away. hope this helps :]

Be careful what you wish for around here.  Your squad may speak, but that  does not guarentee the topic will be BF3.

There also is a FoF (Friends of Friends) tag GT Battlefield ZZ

I'm on PS3, but just a note about RPG/SMAW hits on Tanks...

If the tank is flying toward you at top speed, you can actually disable them with a Front side RPG/SMAW hit.

done this many times, and it stops them nearly dead in their tracks.

a few times I've done this, and either died or otherwise and they blew up a few moments later. (usually the result of a non-engineer class driver/gunner combo)

Generally though, as stated before, a rear hit on Tank will 95% of the time result in a critical hit / disable with little time to repair.

It's fun to screw with Tank drivers when they have no iea where you are hitting them from with the RPGs...

(i'm not a fan of this of course, when I'm in the tank on the receiving end... which is where a large majority of my time is spent when I'm on the Battlefield.)

I have many hours as an Engineer (and was a Combat Engineer IRL) so this is something near and dear to my heart!

Tips:  MINES!!  Lay them out!  They stop the durka durka's from sucide bombing your tank and can get you some kills.  You can only lay 6 out at a time before the first one dissapears when you lay the 7th.  ONLY lay 2 out in an area at a time - about track width apart.  Try set them in the shad or in bottle neck areas.  If you put any more than 2 or 3 out then they are more visible to random person who will then throw a frag on them and get points for destroying them.

Use SMAW or RPG for most maps and for close firing on tanks.  They also make great long distance shots on personal!  Use Javlin for taking down tanks when you have a great distance to fire (like Kharg Island sometimes and Operation Firestorm).  Dont be afraid to change it up after you die as well.

Make sure you have on EXPL for specializations so you have more rockets and mines.

Try aim for back of tanks as they do most dammage there.  as well as the sides.

Remember by now most tanks have infraed vision on so DONT hide in a bush!  Hide behind a wall or something and KEEP MOVING!

add me as friend as well if you want to squad up (Xbox): fattLUNCH

Awesome advise! Do you ever use the robot? I just got that but have not figured out how to use it yet. I will try putting down some mines also. I have not used them yet. Thanks!

Awesome, thank you! I tried it a few times the other day but I died everytime. Now that I know it does not help I will not use it at all. Got to practice the mines.

Depends on what your playing. When I used to play this game the robot was super nice to go in and set the bomb on rush. Most people don't notice the little guy. Granted this was a few months ago.

Also another trick for engineer and killing tanks is to try and sneak up on the the vehicle and torch it to kill it. If you get it down to a low enough health and they start to drive away then whip out your RPG and let 'er fly.

As for repairing you either have to be in the tank already or have a buddy with you so you can talk and drive tanks.

I've only been able to repair tool a few vehicles without being blown up pretty instantly.. Many people by now are a little smarter and you cant get away with it very often.

If you can get a tank in a tight space with some distractions you can take him down with a repair tool.. or at least get him to jump out of a tank for you to jump in and blow him up.

my advice for tank drivers - GO DOWN WITH THE SHIP!  Dont be a douche and jump out of the vehicle the instant you see someone running by you.  Its not always C4 so chill..

I'm a tank driver...... canister shell is PERFECT for C4 fuckers!  Throw in proximity scan and they have a real tough time getting close enough

I try not to go down with the ship, but I only bail out when the tank is about to blow up.... I'm talking like 5% tank health cool

I was thinking the same thing with the canister shell - the only problem is NOT being able to shoot down choppers with the guided missle.  That is my favorite thing to do in a tank is blow up people in choppers!

If you get a good gunner you can thrort those durka's that want to blow you up!

Ah engineer. I love engineer. My advice would be for now, dont worry about stingers, javelins and robots. Stick with the RPG or the repair tool.

Tehran highway conquest is a great map to learn.  Put down mines around each of the roads towards the objectives and you are guaranteed kills. Try to hide them on debris or just around corners.

Most people have unlocked thermal optics which lets them see your mines and blow them up so try to be sneaky where you put them.

One last thing the engineer SMGs are the weakest in the game so be ready to lose a lot of 1 v1 firefights. My favourite is the SCAR but they are all weak especially from distance. Better to spot (with the back button) than try to take out infantry far away.

Engineers use Carbines and the M4A1 is the bees knees! cool
