Well, a lot of that article looks pretty familiar.

Can't they remove the randomness from the game and not load in the weapons they don't like? I'm not quite sure I understand the POV of the writer or MLG. Even in Halo 3, the game was altered for their play, why is Halo 4 any different?

Isn't it purely that COD is a more popular franchise? And that they want to foucs their attention where they see growth?

Yeah, you can get a lot of the randomness out, but there also isn't as much support from 343 as we first thought, it appears.  Microsoft and Virgin Gaming's unity squeezes out an MLG branded playlist in Matchmaking, which certainly strains relations from the onset.

It's almost as if, *gasp* the dude went and did some research to see how the community felt. Anyway, good read, and a lot of the same stuff you've been reading the past 3 months just all wrapped up nicely.

They wouldn't.  They're competitors.

I read the article.  It's pretty spot on.  The only thing I don't understand is why CoD is any better with its randomness and kill stream bonuses.  It's the same thing.

That's a bit of a canard, there.  Yes, the randomness is certainly a huge cause for concern, but it's not like you can't strip all that out.  After that, the next huge problem becomes the Virgin Gaming/Microsoft partnership.  The lack of a desire to do something about that partnership becomes the next roadblock, and its simply too much.

It's not all about the randomness, although I can imagine that having to reinvent Halo since Halo 2 and pull it farther and rather away from what vanilla Halo is gets old for the developers, MLG, sponsors, and everyone that follows this even remotely.

That is where the article falls apart and loses credibility. It doesn't really delve into why COD has been chosen over Halo. It's more like wah, wah, my game isn't the chosen one so I'll use my leverage and publish an article on Forbes.

Competitve Halo 4 can happen right now without AA, and Ordnance of any kind. AGL is streaming as I type. Am I missing something?

Cry baby, position to cry loudly, cries, gets attention and gets paid I suppose. Am I being too cynical?

Well it is more to the fact that it was not going to be an either/or thing, they could both be on the MLG circuit if it were not for the exclusive VG contract. MLG is a competitor to VG, so VG have the contract gets to insist on MS/343 not partnering with a competing company.

Competitve Halo is happening right now, but AGL is by no means MLG, it is way more grass roots and has no where near the ability to pull in sponsorships or prize money that MLG can. If you have been watching the stream you can tell this by the size of the room these dudes are playing in. Honestly I think out site has pulled bigger rooms for our lans than the one they are using for Chicago.

Now VG has to either get its crap together and start running tourneys or Partner up with AGL as the major backer to and get some future tournaments going. Hopefully they can get together start to develope VG/PRO/COMP settings that will be used in tournemants. Can't really call them mlg v2 settings now can we.

If Halo is ever going to be a serious contender again, it will only be via grassroots leagues like AGL. Just like MLG before it.

Virgin Gaming is something altogether different. AGL entities can provide vodder for VG.

Agree, but hopefully VG gets it up rolling soon or AGL if they truly want to be taken seriously need to be gettter broadcasters that restrain from using "got raped" and "fucking gay" as their goto euphenism when describing match outcomes and current MM settings. They honestly have the ability to fill the gap left by MLG but they need to change up to a better style of entertainment.

I watched for a couple of hours yesterday and was thinking to myself, you dumbass' have a great opportunity here but then go and act like a couple of shitbags after drinking your first couple of beers.

MLG has a good relationship with Sony gaming. Xbox has had trouble in the Asian markets, where the playstion has done well. With both companies releasing new consoles this year, they are both trying to get a step up. I would bet that COD will be played on the PS3/4. This helps MLG too with the console of choice being international. That's why I think they dropped halo, but I really don't know anything about anything.

The reason has nothing to do with the games.  It's all about money.  CoD sells more copies and is available on more platforms.  Now MLG can attract the Sony and PC fanboys where as Halo is strictly XBox.  The game is irrelevant.   Money talks.

That is in the vein of my thought. He could have talked about the money side but instead chose to say Halo 4 has too many non-pro elements. Bad journalism is bad.

Well if that were the case why is it that H4 was the one to be booted and not Reach, which by all accounts was no where near the competitive game play or possibility of good comp play as H4 is.

You are correct saying it is about the money, but it has nothing to do with H4 the money is coming from VG and the exclusive contract as the sole holder of the rights to put on tourney's and wide scale competitions for Halo.

Were they contracted to play Halo for X amount of years?

Since H3 was big with MLG, they probably figured Reach would be as well.  And why wouldn't they?  But since Reach didn't hold the attention they expected, they moved on.

that's M$'s stupidity. if this had been bought by a company that's not retarted, H4 would be the flagship of MLG.

nobody will ever convince me of anything else.

For a guy that (presumably) owns a PC and an Xbox, you've got a lot of hate for Microsoft.

I just feel that MLG is forgetting that they there ultimately to entertain the fans of whatever game they choose. It seems to me that MLG is making the same mistakes other pro leagues have made in the past, don't alienate your base.  MLG is competing with the NFL, MLB, etc. Why do me like to watch sports because they are entertaining? How entertaining is it to watch COD versus Halo? I find it hard enough to follow COD when I am playing, I always enjoyed watching MLG Halo matches.

The guy is not spot on, Deep is spot on.  It's sad that Forbes is so desperate to have something about video games that they'll take anything and call it good.

Yikes! That was the kind of dialogue. I couldn't understand much of what was said. AGL will not get too many kicks at the cat if they continue to allow that kind of dialogue. It's detestible.

Also, think of it from the MLG's stand point.  What's their goal?  To attract "Pros" or to attract viewers?  Video game pros are a dime a dozen.  You can pick any game and you'll have a pro.  It's a BS title for the sake of the event.

The MLG really only cares about the money, and they get that from the viewers.  The people that go to the events.  In order to do that, they have to go with the title that has the most attention.  The actual game is not important.  They could care less.  They are only interested in selling their brand to as many people as they can.  That's a lot easier with a title that isn't exclusive to one console.  The same thing will happen to CoD when another FPS title comes along and claims number 1 across all consoles.

Quick Edit:  I'm not saying one game is better than another.  If you prefer Halo over CoD or CoD over Halo, that's fine.  That's a personal preference and that's not the point I'm trying to make. Or an argument I'm interested in.
