Sigh.

TL;DR version:  General public cramming ARs in the face of others, for the most part, are the reason that more splosion-esque noob weapons get created and things like Ordinances are developed.

Hey Snark-dow,

Who is cramming the AR in the face of others?  The General public?  We all are video game developers?  I'm confused by your "logic" or whatever you call your cause and effect relation there.

So enjoying weapons that make big exposions is noobish? Did Timmy fall in the well?  Is that what you are trying to say, Lassie?

Solid business strategy....... for a game or two.  The masses buy it, play it for a month, then ditch it.  Less servers to upkeep.  However, eventually that catches up to you when there aren't hardcore around to buy the new map packs and keep word of mouth going for future releases.  Eventually the masses move on.

Way back in time and on this very site, I mused about how it wasn't a good idea for Bungie to create such popular games that we played day in and out to the exclusion of all other games (true at the time). I figured the game industry must have been appalled at the lost revenue.

Well, I may have been correct. The industry doesn't really want us to sit playing the same game for very long. Upgraded versions, new versions, DLC and microtransactions are all part of us moving on.

I predict, we will never see the likes of a Halo 2 or 3 capturing such high percentages of the population for so long and not spending much money. COD deanshise has been on the cutting edge of this for quite awhile. Every year, new stuff.

As for hardcore, that can mean so much more than highly competitive or or skilled. Even Dixon pointed that out. I'm hardcore yet don't fit the other attributes. I buy all the maps and play much longer in elapsed time than many who fall under the leet banner.

I need to go so can't flesh this out more.

That hasn't been working so well has it?  A mediocre game like Halo 4 can go the extra mile to appeal to the masses but it's not going to help.  At it's core it's still mediocre.  Make a good game and the masses will come.

There were many little problems with Halo 4. Too many to list properly. Impossible to say if one thing or another was a primary culprit.

We here on 2old2play are coming up on a 2 year anniversary of playing this game continuously. Not just a few of us either. We all have our little complaints but it's not a bad game.

Times change, Halo 2 is the hot girlfriend we all shared who is now past her prime, and is shooting her face full of chemicals in an attempt to stay in the glory days, yet refuses to stop eating twinkies and popping out babies.  Some players are like the annoying boyfriend who enables her, but is never satisfied.   He will take out mortgages to have the best plastic surgeons piece her back together, but in the process they destroy her memory.  There are pschotic players who absolutely refuse to let her go, choking her to death and then stuffing her corpse.  Spending the days combing her hair and preaching to everyone how "this was the baddest broad ever to walk the planet, come one, come all!".  I've dumped the bitch, and spend my days staring at old photos through a mist of tears.  A few people love her for who she is, and no matter how many twinkies and stretch marks she gets, they will always love her.

After experiencing Infinity settings, a noob won't be satisfied with an "Equal Start" FPS - unless "Equal" also means equal skill matching. Bad skill matching drives noobs out of any equal start playlist when they have somewhere else to go.

Here is a noob game on Shrine.

I'll be totally honest in saying it's a beautiful map, but I found myself being put off a little bit by the lighting. The contrast to the light and dark sides and all of the various shadows may play a role in how the map plays. I guess it's my old eyes, but it was hard to spot people on those darker sections. Granted I'm not playing, so it may be different in-game. But what ever happened to just having equal lighting for the whole map. Sure the maps look awesome with different lighting, but it can give one side an advantage if they want to hide in the shadows...lol

See what you think. I'm probably just getting old(er)...

Grenades also don't bounce in that pretty water.  Half the map has more water on the ground.  It would be nice if the bases were a little more identifiable, but I presume we'll have dramatic lighting in Forge, so one will be cast in a red light and the other in blue light.

Yes.  Minor quibbles.  Together, they form Quibble Voltron and become bigger problems.

I see what you mean but I'd rather have the lighting variation. For me, immersion improves with such features and that is one of the reasons I always liked Halo. I got immersed. Granted, the early days of halo provided very rudimentary immersion but it worked better than any previous game for me.

Landmarking seems to be fairly easy. Waterfalls, open side, river, sunny side, shady side just to name a few. On top of that you can add the traditional callouts plus a lot of interesting skybox art.

I figure, outside of the Beta, these H2A maps will be the most played part of TMCC. Not counting anything Campaign related though.

Here's a better representation of how the map will play. I'm kind of liking the sound of the BR or at least prefer this one over the H4.

I'm not too turned off by the BR sound, although when someone mentions it, that's when I notice it.

The game looks pretty good, though.  I wonder how that lift up to snipe from shotgun is going to change some of the flow.

It's a gamechanger for sure.  I think it might actually be a good change since that won't be nearly as appealing for those who like to camp that spot to snipe through the middle.  Before you were really well cushioned there between the long walk across the bridge and the long walk across the turret.  If you saw someone come through the courtyard, it was no biggy because they were easily trapped in the shotgun tunnel.  Shotgun tunnel was pretty much a death trap if you got detected.  I think this will deter base campers on objective games, and force the middle battle (which is where the battle should take place if both teams are going for the win and not just padding kills).

This is one aspect of the map I don't like. It will allow no hand-eye coordination, crouch walking, camo using, AR carrying Infinity lovers to get a cheap kill... Flame on Ladies.

I read that Loadouts exist for these maps but only in Customs. I won't likely use them because other members will have plenty enough things to do than to think about wanting that stuff.

Cool! This'll allow 343 to collect data on what the game buying majority really want in a shooter.

If people are interested, I'll turn it on. I'm just not going to do it until it becomes requested.smiley

Yeah, this stuff is looking very interesting and exciting.

I think I've been noticing character animations may be borrowed from Halo 4. I.E. When a dead Spartan is falling off an edge, he falls head first like in Halo 4. No arm waving like in Halo 2. That's a bit interesting since 343i said H2A multiplayer was built from a modified H2 engine.

What, no dead Spartan arm waving? That does it! Cancelling my pre-order!

Okay, not really :-)

The waterfalls worry me.  Sure they look cool, but I think they will close off the bases and ruin the gameplay.  It's only one little thing, but I'm worried about it more as a sign of the mindset of the developer.  Does the NBA change the basketball court every year to make it look new and pretty?  No, because that would ruin the game.  This time they need to give us back Halo or I fear they won't get another chance.

Its like the competitive pricks all received a memo: compare Halo to basketball when describing skill gaps and changes in the game.
