Halo 4 Hardcore Playlist coming?
Do I think it is a done deal that MLG is getting their own playlist? No.
Probably and hopefully a just a Hardcore playlist.
Picked this up from CyReN on NeoGAF.
Looks like MLG is getting their playlist.
I'm honestly not sure why the BR is the base gun. If the problem was shots not landing at distance, now we're taking that weapon away? I suppose I'm fine with it being an ordnance drop, or a few of them spawning around the map at times. I'm also not getting this sudden fascination with the Light Rifle either.
I don't think they've settled anything for sure yet. The fact is that base H4 gameplay sucks (we all know it's true), and they are trying to fix it. There are two main problems (and a bunch of smaller ones). One is that for the most part the maps suck (except Haven). Another is the fact that the DMR is too OP. I'm not just talking about weapon balance here. What I mean is that it's hard to design good maps around a weapon that is too strong. You could fix the DMR by weakening the auto-aim, but that's beyond their control.
I think that the general feeling is that you can make the maps suck less by adding in some jumps here and there and getting rid of the DMR. Alternatively you can keep the DMR as a starting weapon and make all new maps. Of course if you do that then we're back to fairly monotone maps. So they are trying to choose between these two options sort of.
Dixon, i'm confused - do you not like the BR?
No, I do, but the DMR is better for these bigger maps. It's a weird complaint, that had a hard time hitting things at range, and now we can, consistently and reliably, and we're (rightfully?) turning it into more of a power weapon.
I absolutely love the BR. :)
What we can really agree on is that the comp settings, more likely than not, aren't going to work; I guess anything is better, in theory, than what is currently up there.
i don't really notice the difference between BR and DMR. They both take the same amount of shots to kill and they are hitscan.
I personally think the H4 BR is more forgiving if your aim isn't perfect. Hitscan helps both a lot.
The DMR seems to have a stronger auto aim than the BR, but I've noticed more and more that I getting beat by BRs so people must be getting it down.
I think the base gameplay is really good. The maps do suck for the most part, between the DMRs range, sprint and instant respawns they must feel that they need to make huge maps which in my option the do not. If you take out instant respawns I think you would be fine.
Just give it some time, we all forget how bad H2 was at first or even H3 but they both evolved into great games. Even Reach became much more playable over time.
The almost-instant weapon despawn is painful, too.
And that means it should be in the comp settings as the starting weapon, because it is forgiving? I just don't understand the argument that because we finally have an accurate weapon at range and is super great up close too, that we have to go with the BR.
I don't know if I'm just still used to how things were in Halo 1 or what, but that was only a 3 shot kill with something that rivals the DMR I'd imagine. I can only imagine it has to do with how much the game slowed down over H3 and Reach, incredible team play became more important and an individual's skill wasn't as a much of a factor. Halo 4 brings the individual skill level back up quite a bit, and one person can alter the game.
Most 'comp' players have adjusted to thinking small arena type maps are the best. That may not be the case with H4. I think back to some of the better maps we've had, only Midship/Heretic and Onslaught come to mind as small arena like maps. Warlock/Wizard, Beaver Creek/Battle Creek, The Pit, Sancutary, Guardian, Lockout, and Chill Out I'd say were small to medium if not outright medium sized.
Maybe once again we are hoping the maps catch up to them game. I'd much rather adjust the maps to the game than adjust the game and maps to some 'vision' of what we should be playing in comp.
All I'm saying is maybe we went backwards in order to move forward with the game. I'm okay with that.
I never said it should be the starting weapon because it's more forgiving. I was just stating my observations with both weapons. Frankly I could give two shits about what starting weapon they'll decide on. Make a decision and stick with it.
CyReN on NeoGAF.
Agreed. Let's set the base for what we want to have, and make small tweaks, instead of huge changes to the formula from v1 to v2 and so forth.
my post is gone!!!!
oh well, i didn't say anything worth reading anyway.
I'd sooner just stop playing the game than go back to Halo 3.
lol agreed. saying you'll go back to Halo 3 is an empty threat. Population is zip.
Right? You might as well say you're running away to join the circus.
Aye, a lot of interesting thoughts in here.
There is nothing wrong with the DMR or BR. Each has an advantage and disadvantage. If the skill level is even then a BR is tough to beat up close because as some have said the hit scan is more forgiving.
The disadvantage is the range is not all that.
The DMR is great up close IF you can be pretty accurate. I personally miss quite a few last shots because they move at the last second. If know if I had the BR I would have got the kill, but I personally prefer the DMR as a comfort factor.
Some of you complain about the DMR, but you forget in H2 how bad it sucked to be pinned down by a snipe because you could not shot across a map to any effect.
Real changes that would help the game:
1. Rockets and Incinerator Cannon should be the same in power.
2. You should have to do something really amazing to earn an ordinance drop.
3. Ordinance drops should not contain power weapons. Extra ammo would be nice :)
4. It would be nice to have teams fight over a power weapon again as in every other halo. Rockets, OS, snipes…they all dropped at a certain time and place. Everything now is so random.
5. They should lower the sound of an ordinance drop. Not sure how many times one has dropped right behind me that I did not call for scaring the fool out of me because a loud boom comes out of no where in my headset!!!
6. I really hate that you automatically pick up the ball because someone throws it at you. Nothing worse than getting someone one shot and they throw it to you and kill you instead.
7. A flag runner should not have a stronger pistol. I'm sorry… you're carrying the flag. That has always been a handicap in Halo. If you would allow the flag runner to drop the flag and shoot that would be REALLY nice.
Anyways…I know there is a lot more, but I feel these are small tweaks that would help the game out a lot.
what do you mean a stronger pistol?
When you carry the flag the pistol is stronger than normal. Supposed to make the flag carrier have a chance to fight which is odd.
In basketball a guy with one arm would not be considered to be a more capable dribbler versus a guy with two arms. So what is the logic behind a guy carrying a flag having the same power as a guy not carrying nothing but a gun? They should have left like it's always been where you could drop the stupid flag. Don't even get me started on why when you drop the oddball it takes off as if you launched it out of a cannon. I am all for changes, but some of them make absolutely no sense. Just my opinion.
Honestly, I like the way both types of flag play. I enjoyed the "old" way of being able to juggle and drop the flag, but this "new" version has it's perks too.
