The Halo Bulletin: 10.10.12 - Career Progression
I haven't read it yet but I spotted a large section on Career Progression. I.E. Lv 1-50, Specializations and all that.
RUL recaps the Career Progression. Quite good in my opinion.
Your link was corrupted by the site it seems.

Thanks.
Not really any new info, but it's good to finally have it all in one place. I do like we'll continue to have daily, weekly and now monthly challenges and it sounds like we'll have even more commendations to work through.
However, to be honest, I kind of lost interest in grinding for commendations and armor. I did still try for the daily and weekly challenges for a while, but those got stale too. I suppose working through the specializations will keep some of us busy, but that will only keep us entertained and coming back for so long.
Still waiting to see if there will be any kind of "skill-based" system/ranks used in Halo 4. 343 seems to be keeping very quite on this front, so I'm not sure how to take their lack of info. I know Frankie has stated we'll get more info later, but I'm thinking this is "later"...lol
Do you guys think this Spartan Rank (SR) is all we'll get?
"for those obsessed with their skill ranking" "later on and closer to launch"
I do not believe there will be in-game visible skill rankings.
I do believe that once external API access to Waypoint data becomes available after launch, external sites may make such things available.
When developers hold back information on such things to the last minute, people should ask themselves a few questions? Why? Who does this affect? How many does this affect?
For me, I see 343i holding back on good news for those who want visible skill rankings as stupid. Why hold back on that which would make, what they say is a vocal minority, happy? It's not a game spoiler. Therefore it is bad news and they are just holding the dogs off until the game is sold.
Experienced Halo players who know they will never show better than average or even lower skill rankings could care less. Why have that thing around to attract degrading comments in-game?
I figure they are holding off the rage as well. I've always liked the officer ranks, so hopefully we'll get something more than Spartan Ranks.
However, I would have to say I'm not sure I agree with "experienced halo players who know they will never show better than average...could care less" about numbers and ranks. I do agree to a certain extent in that I know my limitations, but that doesn't keep me from wanting to improve.
I certainly fall into that average/low skill rankings. However, the most fun I had in Halo was trying to push my rank up in Team Slayer with similarly skilled friends. Yes I was a lowly Strike Commander, but I had so much fun pushing for my 30 then my 35. I wanted to go for 40, but Reach came out and we moved away from H3. I had no designs on being a 50, as I knew I wasn't good enough to be a 50. However, I still loved the challenge of trying to rank up when I wanted to wear my tryhard pants.
I actually enjoyed playing in The Arena for a season in Reach, but the low population made good games hard to find.
I think that people of all skills enjoy seeing new emblems and ranks - especially if it's something you earned because of improved play.
Judging by the "semi-comprehensive" description in the update it doesn't seem that skill ranks are going to be available at all in game.
I really hope not. Halo 3 really had it fairly well done, boosters aside. I liked having an overall playtime rank coupled with a playlist specific skill rank. I really don't see why the closed mouth approach to this. It just about solidifies the fact that it won't be there as opposed to hopefully being included.
Also the Infinity, that's one big ship.
And the
Jul M'dama vid was rather spoilerish for the story. I mean after reading The Thursday War you get the idea that what was formally Onyx was indeed Requiem, Reclaimer Trilogy and all, still interested to see how closely Bear and Traviss' books will coincide with the actual game play. Very exciting times for Halo lore lovers.
I believe your Onyx reference is incorrect. It's now Trevelyan. Different place.
but of course, why i said formally Onyx.
I like the nice, detailed, separated breakdown in the bulletin. I don't really care about armor stuff either, but I find the specialization packages interesting. Can't wait till H4 comes out!!
Having never played any previous Haloz online, those references are a hard to guess at. Time comes, maybe somebody will author a "Halo 4 for dummies" FAQ as far as the MP additions work?
When I jump into matchmaking I can see myself using the gametype specific loadouts every time. I don't think starting with an Assault Rifle, Magnum, and Frag with no armor ability, support package, or anything will be as good as just picking a gametype loadout with those things.
I do like the idea that we can pick which things to unlock when we are able, so long as we have the slot for them already. What I wonder is if there is any point in saving up Spartan Points. I mean, I might want the same gun for most loadouts, but several armor abilities. So once I have the gun, I'd just unleash my SP on several Armor Abilities. I also wonder if each item costs one Spartan Point, or if some have a higher cost like two or three?
In any event, the decision I'm most unsure of is which Specialization to take first. I will be able to access all 8 at SR-50, and though the Armor Mod that increases XP gain is tempting, it also sounds boring. Decisions, decisions.
So they are abandoning the competitive playlists if there is no skilled lists/skilled rankings.
Boosters were not a problem in Halo 3. It was the deranking. Implement bans on deranking reports, and problem solved.
There are still going to be ways to trash talk though, so it's all good :)
Added RUL vid to OP.
