Heavy ammo trick

If you're like me you've probably dropped a lot of cash/strange coins on heavy ammo synths. I'm quoting/paraphrasing from a reddit user:

Any time you kill an enemy with 0 Ammo in all slots, they WILL generate Heavies/Special for you.

  1. 1. Kill enemies before you pick up the dropped ammo.
  2. 2. If you are using an Icebreaker, only your primary and heavy ammo needs to be at 0.
  3. 3. Enemies killed in your vicinity but not by you will still drop you heavy.

If you don't have an IB on your character, you'll need to empty special ammo too. Even without an IB and zero ammo, you can still throw grenades, melee, and probably super to kill enemies.

Since Bungie has not fixed the stupid heavy ammo bug yet, this is an awesome way to replenish your heavy/super ammo when in raids, nightfalls, and other places where you might run low.

For example if you're at the Crota CP and you ran out of heavy after several wipes, and you have an IB, before you start to summon Crota empty out all of your primary/heavy ammo at walls or whatever, pick up your IB, and when the battle starts, kill enemies with IB. Within a few seconds you should fill your heavy ammo up without dropping a synth. Don't pick up anything until you've dropped enough to replenish your stocks.

If for whatever reason you can't seem to find any primary ammo after all mobs are cleared, just pop a primary synth. Much cheaper.

I realize this is kind of buggy/glitchy but then again, so is the heavy ammo bug.

Sounds quite similar to the ammo top-up from 0,0,0 that's been in the game since day 1.

Yeah, I thought there had to be ammo on the ground for the refill to work. You run out of ammo and it gets refilled by the stuff that's on the ground after a certain amount of time with everything at zero.

Interesting.

I've only ever ran a primary out of ammo once since the game dropped. It was my Atheon's Epilog while in the VoG. I swapped it for the IB, then when I looked down at the ammo counter a few moments later, I saw the Epilog had refilled with hundreds of rounds all by itself. I hadn't moved off a ring pillar or picked up any ammo on the ground. I thought at the time that it was just a Bungie thing that complemented the Epilog. I don't remember what my heavy ammo situation was at the time.
