Heel Toe

Well, now that i built the rig and there is no longer any obstruction between me and the pedals I am going to try to learn how to drive this way in Forza. Any tips, advice or links to resources would be welcomed. Wish me luck and here's hoping I don't hurt myself. LOL

Personally I dont do it much but to make it easier I flipped the black spacer on the gas peddle from the top of the bar to the bottom making the gas lower than the brake and clutch.

Its mainly about foot positioning, rest your foot on the brake pedal and find a position where you rotate it to the right enough to press the gas.  The hard part is pressing the gas without increasing the brake - that is where the finesse comes in..

If your pedals are close enough, you can use the side of your foot to achieve the desired effect.

That's all i got, sorry! :D

I echo what Tourni says about it being easier with close pedals, using more of a left side of foot pressing the brake with a blip on the throttle using the right middle of your foot. It's one of those things that becomes almost instinctual when you've practised it enough, I taught myself by trying to do it every time I drove a car (although I've only ever driven manual so had plenty of opportunity to practise).

Idk how the version 1 CSPs adjust but like I mentioned above I changed the spacer around to the back on the gas pedal to make it slightly lower than the brake and clutch. I also moved the clutch and brake closer to the gas using the extra holes on the pedles. This allows much easier "heel toe" and better modulation of the brake when using the top of your foot on both the brake and gas at the same time instead of your heel. When I get home I'll take a picture of how my version 2s look.

This is one area where motorcycles have the advantage over cars.  On my motorcycle, I can downshift using throttle blip, operate the front and rear brakes independantly, all while keeping both hands firmly on the handle bars.  Every control is in reach at all times without having to change the position of my feet or hands.

I have tried the heel/toe method with my CSPs, but I just don't have the coordination or will to spend enough time to learn it properly.  I usually just get too lazy and turn on ACL and use the paddle shifters on my wheel.  That way I can keep both hands on the wheel where they should be.

I tried it for about 5-10 minutes but otherwise feel exactly like you do. Sometimes it feels guilty to not use that nice clutch I bought but I still use the other two pedals frequently...and the clutch does get used when I spin out so its not like it never gets used.

I moved my pedals closer today and tried to use the technique a bit. It is really awkward. I'll have to watch a lot of videos. Presently, I use the clutch and TH8RS shifter in every car up to R3. Then I use the paddles for R1.  It's a lot of work but very immersive.

The way I do it when I run the gated shifter is:

Position your right heel in the center between the throtle and brake, rotate your foot to accelerate or brake while keeping the heel in the same place.

Now for the heel/toe, aply the brakes with the ball of your foot and rotate your heel to the throtle. The brake pedal will be lower than the throtle so rotating your foot will automaticly aply some throtle.

To help all this I've removed the block bihind the throtle and mounted the brake pedal at its highest point. (CSP V1)

Disclamer: I do wear a size 13 81 so I've got some reach.cheeky

Snappy,

Came across this on YouTube.  Max Papis foot cam during a road course test in a stock car.   He does a little bit of left foot braking early on but the heel toe stuff starts around 2:11.
I'm also impressed that he's upshifting without using the clutch.

It's all about getting used to the feeling, and learning or practicing on Forza is really a great way to do it. I actually honed my technique quite a bit just form practicing on my cousin's rig with the CSR, now I'm much smoother when heel/toeing in real life. There's lots of videos on youtube and many techniques, so Forza gives you the chance to try all of them without the consequences of breaking or burning up anything on your daily driver or whatever. Just find the style that suits you best and find a pedal setup that feels comfy. Then it's a matter of getting used to the overall feeling. Next thing you know, it'll be second nature.

My personal favorite clips have always been Keiichi Tsuchiya, footcam starts at 0:50...
