Helios' Office/Race Room Conversion

Been pretty busy this past weekend getting started on the conversion of the office/race room. I'll eventually update this post w/ before & after pics. But, that's where I've been. I will still be making most of the race dates that I typically do, but practice and setup time will be severely impacted.

Work completed to date:
-Color decided on (after 5 failed samples)
-Walls painted
-Carpet pulled
-Staples pulled (in progress)

Work to complete (not necessarily in order)
-Finish pulling staples
-Pull tack strips
-Refinish floor (undecided at this time)
-Replace outlets & switch (correcting wiring while I'm there)
-Paint trim
-Install blinds (Bali cellular light filtering blinds)
-Build/install bookshelfs
-Assemble desk
-Build monitor/button box stand
-Install perimeter trim strip on floor
-Paint closet
-Install ethernet receptacle in wall
-Setup sim rig
-Decorate (models, posters, vintage signs & other auto paraphernalia)
-Build additional shelving in closet

Starting:

Thanks.

Yep, real maple hardwood.  Not a laminate overlay.  Loving it.  The wall color works w/ the floor better than I was hoping.

Actually, those floors "should" run through the entire house w/ the exception of the bathrooms, kitchen, mud room & living room.

So there is going to be a lot of carpet coming out over the next few months.  61

Sherb, you got some good taste my man. I'll be watching intently as I have a race room in my future as well. Can't wait to see more.

Things have been progressing slowly.  Been busy (too much racing cheeky), but at least it's moving forward.  I decided last night that I'm going to go ahead and re-clear the floor.  Since I'm doing that, I'll be scrapping the notion of installing a horizontal trim strip around the perimeter.  The holes will get puttied in before application of the clear.

Trim painted and blinds installed.  The blinds are pretty slick really.  Cordless design, open from either bottom or the top, and the double cell design should make them some of the more energy efficient designs available (going to be key for the huge pane windows in the library).

Them blinds are pretty sweet.

Are they attached in the middle?

I think I may have misunderstood your question the first time.....

The entire mechanism attaches in the beige mechanism at the top of the window.  So I can actually "roll" the blinds all the way up, all the way down or a combination of the 2.  You can get them in either inside mount (which I have) or an external mount (mounts to the wall side of the window frame).

There are 3 brackets across the top.  3 inches in from either side and 1 in the middle.

A touch spendy, the cordless & top down options pretty much doubled the cost of the blinds.  But the cordless is great because it's one less thing to tempt the cats (and provides a cleaner look), and the top down offers flexibility and technogeek factor.  203

Oh yeah, don't mind the bed.  I had company up from Seattle this weekend.  wink  With the guest bedroom esentially a storage locker at the moment, this ended up being a last minute improvisation.  Going to pull it out tonight so I can start sanding.
