Man do I suck at crucible matches
So on Friday night I played my first Crucible matches since I got the Bad Ju Ju bounty and need 10,000 points. I totaly suck! Saturday morning I purchased a legendary auto rifle because I was putting a full mag into people with my rare AR and still getting killed. Same thing is happening with my Shadow Price AR. Do upgrades to weopons come into play in Crucible matches? I hope I get better but Destiny PvP reminds me so much of Halo and I just coudnt get into Halo. I guess only time will tell.

Regular crucible puts everyone on a level playing field for the most part. I use one of the first rare Shingen ARs that ever dropped for me.
Unless you are playing Iron banner, the color of weapons and armor doesnt matter. A green is as good as a purple (purple will have more ability perks though). The damage number isnt taken into account. So, what you most want to look for is the weapon stats and perks (rof, stability, range, and persistance, full auto, perfect balance, send it, hand loaded, etc). Other than the Suros Regime exotic AR, the best I have found is blue silvered hushwind. Typically the blue crucible drops you get willbe really good for pvp, even though they may not seem to compare to some of your purples. Painted Suros, Galahad, Shingen, Cydonia and Marshal are all good. Pulse rifles are Suros JPS55, Black Suros.
I have the Bad Juju and it sucks for pvp. If you are an absolute headshot pro, I can see it being pretty good, but for a mere mortal, the clip size is a liability. Its really damn good for pve though.
As far as playing tips, I was terrible to start too. I finally broke 1.0kdr this weekend. I personally think it is more like COD than Halo, but who knows. Someone said it really well the other night: Thereare so many one-shot kills that you just need to hang back and play cautious. Once you start doing that, it will get better. Just focus on not dying instaed of getting kills and that is what worked for me. Getting kills isnt that hard - not dying is hard. And if you ever see someone charging a room full of people, jump and run - you are about to get supered. :)
Also learn the heavy weapon ammo locations and as soon as he says it is inbound, run there. So many people ignore them and heavy weapons are almost guaranteed kills.
Good luck.
I agree Thom that it is more COD. In Halo with the shields I was able to keep 1ish to positive k/d with ghandi hopping, machine gun pop shield then punch in the face pretty effiectively. That strategy has been a .3 k/d in the crucible, so I have really been sucking my brief time in there too.
Crucible is very spotty for me. One game I'll have a 3.0 k/d then go 0.3 a few games later...lol
Often times I get impatient and try to force kills. There is nothing wrong with letting your teammates finish off weak players so don't rush. Also, don't forget to use your grenade to weaken or finish off folks.
Also, as mentioned above, go for the heavy ammo. I'm still amazed how many people totally ignore the call out.
I had to do some PvP this weekend as well for Bad Juju. I found doing control helped a lot over Rumble. I was getting my ass kicked Friday night in Rumble, but did really good in control. I finished the bounty up in a few hours. I did give up on Thorn though.
And that just comes with time put into it. As you put more into it, you'll notice more of the tricks and jumps and such that you didn't see before. We had a good run of games a few nights ago, though.
Don't feel bad at all. Everyone is in some phase of learning the game and getting better. To this day, I'm still getting better and working on my skillsets and trying to teach myself to be more patient or aggressive where its warranted. Getting in with a full party that you know is one of the best social experiences you can have on this site (in my opinion), so take advantage.
