"They were very weak enemies that didn't drop very good loot," Hopson said. "The funny thing is that we knew about [the loot cave] before launch, we knew that this was potentially exploitable activity, but we didn't care. The actual drop rate per minute spent is not any different than anything else.
"So you actually will get less loot [shooting into the loot cave] per hour than you would just playing the game. But the players weren't doing the math that way," he added.
However, the developer mainly squashed it because players were reporting each other for cheating for using the Loot Cave. Others would block loot-dropping enemies from respawning by loitering in their respawn spots, causing players who wanted to exploit the cave to report them.
"The time of the loot cave was the highest peak of players reporting each other for cheating," Hopson said. "[The Loot Cave] was actually pretty controversial."
I believe it but that kind of farming can still reap rewards.
I'll farm caves for a Patrol, Bounty and resources. Save time I think.
Seems pretty revisionist, either that or this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I don't doubt that they didn't identify and patch other loot caves before the game started, but I do question that they let this one just happen. Also, the chance of a drop from a level 2 Dreg and a level 32 Captain are the exact same. More dice rolls = more chances at stuff. You can mow through a platoon of Dregs faster than you can Captains. Hence, get more drops.
I'm going to say he's full of smooth creamy shit about the drop rate.
I could really use that loot cave right now to farm for friggin' saphire wire.
