My personal Halo awards!

I've played all the online Halo games a lot and I've really enjoyed them all. Each Halo games has some great ideas and different feel than the rest. I figure I would have my own personal Halo matchmaking awards(I never really played C.E. in it prime).

Best BTB map: Standoff. This map just had the best matches for me. It was a great competitive map. Loved it.

Best 4v4 map: Midship. I hated this map at first mainly because of plasma rifle starts, but once I played it with a BR starts I was hooked. I could play it over and over. It really shows how important just a few really good maps can make.

Best Primary Weapon: H2 BR post update. I honestly really like the H4 BR post update, but I'll go with H2's BR since it was such a beast in that game.

Best Power Weapon: Halo Reach Sniper. This sniper just felt right.

Best Lobby System: Halo Reach

Best Community game. Halo Reach. Just for the fact that the options for different gametypes and forge where so good.

Best Competitive game: Halo 2. Halo 2 got this right. The same game you played in MM was the same game used by MLG. Plus Halo 2 had the best 4v4 competitive maps.

Best Online Halo: Halo 3. Halo 3 had the best all around experience. Great competitive play in both BTB and 4v4. The best ranking system and and really good options for customs.

What are your Halo favs?

Good list Jim! I may be in the minority, but Halo 3:ODST would be my 'Favorite Campaign'. To me it felt a little less linear and scripted, at least when wandering in the dark streets of New Mombassa.

Favorite Btb map h2 headlong.

My favorite 4v4 was/is most of the versions of lockout. I just always know where I am there and what I should be doing.

Best online experience is a tight race for me between H2&h3 but clan support puts me in h2 at the end.

Best campaign for me was H3. Racing warthogs over exploding terrain FTW.

Best vehicle is the mantis. And I don't say that lightly but they had me at stomp attack.

I like the h4 sniper best. A great meld of 2 and reach for me. I was worthless with the h3 sniper.

4 DMR is most my most comfortable weapon. H2 BR is a close second.

I want to throw grenades like I could in CE.

Reach had all the best social components down pat. Feature rich forge, rendered video, decent lobby and chat, I just hate waypoint with the heat of a thousand suns. I blame Reach for that.

Great thread!

None of these are cast in stone. I change my mind with each day's passing.

Best BTB map: Halo 2 Zanzibar. I loved sneaking around with the bomb on that map.

Best 4v4 map: Ivory Tower.

Best Primary Weapon: Reach DMR default, fast firing for the crazy moments yet offered a controlled ROF/Bloom for more timely placed shots.

Best Power Weapon: Incinerator Canon. Love the way it launches vehicles so high.

Best Lobby System: Halo Reach.

Best Community game: Halo Reach. There were some of the best community Forged maps and gametypes there.

Best Competitive game: Halo 4.

Best Online Halo: Reach and Halo 4. Best netcode.

Best Lighting and Colour: Halo 3. Halo 4 a close second

Best Campaign: All were good in their time. I give extra points to Reach and Halo 4 for making me teary at the end.

Best Vehicle: Halo 3 Gauss Hog.

Best Weapons: Halo 3 Dual wielded Plasma Rifle and Brute Rifle. Since I can't hit a damn, I liked spread weapon support to take down shields for my team mates (who always seemed to be dead).

Best AI: Reach AI of all types were so vicious at times.

Since I can't choose a best overall map, I'll chose the top two or three from each game that I loved then continued on with just one weapon of the best.

Favorite Maps:

HCE:

-Blood Gulch

-Danger Canyon

-Sidewinder

Danger Canyon was only available on the PC, but all three were great for larger groups of people.

Halo 2

I didn't play H2 as much as the other Halo games due to the standby glitch, but here's what I remember having the most fun on:

-Coagulation

-Relic

Halo 3

Standoff - great for CTF and Neutral Assault.  Great cover, power weapon to fight over in the middle. Vehicles.  Strategy.

Rat's Nest - great for Neutral Assault, CTF, and Slayer.  Hogs, Hogs, Hogs.

Sandtrap - You heard that right.  Sandtrap provided some of the most epic CTF and Neutral Assault games I can ever remember.  Stealing the other team's elephant and/or preventing them from doing the same.  During the times both elephants were stolen and met in the middle?  Absolutely pure, crazy fun, chaos, as everyone tried to capture the flag quickly to win.

Avalanche - Didn't like slayer on it, but it was great for CTF and NA.

Valhalla - Classic.  Best team controlled top-mid and if the teams were even, the struggle for that position was awesome.

Halo Reach:

I actually had to look up the maps for Reach to see if I remembered enjoying any of them.  Sadly, the answer is no.

Halo 4:

Same with Reach, had to look up all the maps.  Harvest & Impact/Relay are decent.  Exile is okay for objective games.  But most are meh.  Did like dominion on Longbow though.

Best Primary Weapon:

Halo CE Pistol and Halo 3 BR.  Halo CE pistol because of the skill required to perfect it.  Same with the H3 BR.  I chose it over the H2 BR because while I enjoy hitscan weapons, the spread on 3 allowed for map movement and added that extra layer of skill to perfect longer shots.  DMRs restrict map movement and the bloom for Reach allowed for random or "lucky" kills and the DMR for H4 was/is a mini-sniper with no de-scoping.

Best Sniper:

-H3 sniper.  This was a difficult choice between H2's and H3's sniper, but the H3 sniper won out simply because I used it more.  Reach's sniper had too big of a hit box for headshots and H4 had huge hitboxes plus no de-scoping.  H3 sniper for the skill required.

Best Lobby:

Reach

Best Community Game:

Halo 3.  Fun or competetive, H3 had it all.  If you weren't that skilled at shooting in H3, you could become a great hog driver.  Or gunner.  Or banshee pilot.  Vehicles were tissue paper in Reach, making great drivers practically useless.  H4 they were made of cardboard.  A little stronger, but still easily destroyed, especially with PP and sticky starts.

Best Competetive Game:

H2 had the best ranking system.

Best Online Halo:

Halo 3.  Hands down.  So much fun.  So much competition.  So much hysteria.  You had enough people in each playlist that Bungie could tighten the True Skill search range.  I played more games in Halo 3 than Reach and H4 and yet I had fewer blowouts compared to the two.  Proximity chat.  Excellent vehicles.  And wonderful maps.

Best Forge map - Reach Forge World

I really like how big Forge World is and all the different areas that you can forge in. The H4 forge maps were very disappointing compared to Forge World. I was encouraged when they released Forge Island, but I had very little desire left to forge by that time. I'm hopeful that 343 has learned their lesson and Halo 5 should have the best Forge yet.

I was excited to see different forge envirments in Halo 4, but Reach's forge was so much better. More options and the open world let you be more creative.

Laser's list looks a lot like mine, except BTB maps.  I won't count remakes, either.

Halo 1: Battle Creek

Halo 2: Lockout, Midship, Sanctuary (Waterworks was a pretty nifty map, though, for BTB.  You know, other than Coagulation.)

Halo 3: Guardian, The Pit, Onslaught (Valhalla is, to me, the perfect BTB map)

Reach: none

Halo 4: Haven, modified Impact.

Best primary weapon: I'm partial to Halo 3 over Halo 2 because of the glitches.  To me, it boils down to hitscan or not: if you liked hitscan, you preferred the H2 BR, otherwise, H3.  H3 BR over LAN was perfect, though. I'll give the nod to H3.

Best sniper: I thought the hitboxes in H2 were a little too forgiving, especially with sweep sniping.  I preferred H3, H4, or even *gasp* Reach.  They're all pretty much the same.

I'm not sure how anyone could vote against Halo: Reach's Forge being the best, although Halo 3's Forge seemed to make better maps, notably Onslaught and Amplified.

My personal faves:

Halo 3 - Fave BTB/CTF/Neutral Assault map Sandtrap. Definitely what OMGLaser said so. Had so much funs and frustrations in it.

Halo 3 - Fave 4v4 map Guardian. Pure fun. True equalizer for best and worst players.

Halo 3 - Fave weapon the shotgun. Fave power weapon the rocket.

Halo 3 - Fave vehicle the Gausshog. H4 version sucks! Boo, 343!

Halo Reach - Fave BTB map Hemorrhage. I hated the map when players kept selecting it over and over, but over the time I see why: it's a great equalizer map for all sort of players, no matter how really good or how really mediocre they are.

Halo Reach - Fave 4v4 map Swordbase, no question. Great for Oddball, so damn OMG funny, especially in the room where players lift up to. Some players always camp out in that room with the sword or the shotgun or the skull.

Halo Reach - Fave weapon the DMR. Fave power weapon the sniper rifle. It was much easy for me to use than the H3 version.

Halo Reach - Fave vehicle the Wraith. When I'm in it, beware...I dominate!! First strike kills five times over the years!

Halo 4 - Fave BTB/CTF map Exile. The most simplified and compact BTB map I've ever seen.

Halo 4 - Fave 4v4 map Pitfall. I love how 343 remastered the Pit. I hate it in Halo 3 but love it in H4. Weird, huh?

Halo 4 - Fave weapon the DMR, once again. Still didn't like the BR. Fave power weapon the Forerunner rocket version (I forgot the name). Oh my, what a dangerous power weapon.

Halo 4 - Fave vehicle the Scorpion. When I'm in it, you would wanted me in it because it would be a guaranteed victory for the team every time. ;)

I did not include any faves for Halo CE and Halo 2 because I was a latecomer to the Halo Universe (joined up in 2009) after I traded in my old PS2 for Xbox 360.

Fav campaign? H3 followed by ODST. If ODST firefight played better over XBL, I'd do a lot more of it. A ton of fun!

Luv the H3 map Construct. Don't know what it is, but I tend do OK on that map. Defendable areas maybe. Most H3 maps are visually appealing/interesting. Didn't get to MM at H3 launch because of no hi-speed net, which means I didn't play MM H2 either.  My daughter and I waited in line at Gamestop at midnight for the Legendary H3 release, then played the campaign till dawn. Glad I'll/we'll get to play H2/H3 MM when MCC launches.

Reach is my fav Halo. The gameplay feels most right - movement, shooting, physics, ect. Like Cheez, I like the maps Hemorrhage & Swordbase too. I also like the Cage and Pinnacle and lots of forge maps that don't repeat very often. I know why armor lock and the rest of the abilities were added. And, I know why gametypes were added that didn't have or limit AAs. The rank-up and commendations take a long time, which keep me engaged. Someday, I'll make it to Inheritor... Hopefully before MCC launches. Wish more here liked HR...

Luv the artistic realism of the H4 maps, especially Perdition and several others. Gameplay physics are pretty good, but the player model feels to me to be more like a teenager (oh, to be a teen again!). I do enjoy playing Halo with the 2o2p group. Thanks for letting me in... smiley

Construct was a super underrated map.  Also an amazing example of how, in its latest incarnations, MLG perfected that map.

Halo CE: Battle Creek, Prisoner, Hangem High, Chill out, wizard, Longest

Halo 2: Lockout, Midship, Sanctuary, Beaver Creak, Warlock

Halo 3: Heretic, the Pit, Narrows, Construct, Gaurdian, Amplified, Onslaught

Reach: none

Halo 4: Haven, Shutout

Best primary weapon:

Halo CE: Pistol

Halo 2: Battle Rifle and Sniper

Halo 3: Battle Rifle and Sniper

Halo Reach: None

Halo 4: None

For me Halo 2 was the best of the series, I personally liked the BXR, BXB and RRX button combos, I like the speed of the game, the maps, the way the weapons sounded, the grenades. So as for the overall H2. Halo 3 brought us forge and that was pretty awesome, Halo 3 gameplay was good, I like the br, not as much as the h2 br but i liked it and i liked the snipe in H3. The only thing I liked about halo reach was the lobby system, it was pretty seemless and transparent. Halo 4 is ok, the weapons are solid, the gameplay is ok, im still not a fan of sprint or the weapon drop bs and i feel like of all the halos halo 4 lacks map content in 4v4 slayer anyway.

I dont have a favorite vehicle or btb map as i dont really play any of that stuff enough to have an opinion on it.
