Paradox Secret Heroic Mission

Read about this yesterday in the Bungie forums. Like the Black Spindle mission, the Paradox mission needs to be the daily story. This is a quest to get a year 2 Stranger's Rifle. You need to pledge to the FWC faction as a first step.

https://youtu.be/2fUHbIDXTvM

Daughter and I did what was described in the video yesterday. The mission was great fun, but was very technical for me... jumping and all. Was a little surprised I made it to the boss fight at the end, where you open a chest to acquire a "cult ghost", which is then turned in to the FWC faction.

While running through the Vault to do the mission, collect ghosts and do the jumping puzzle, individual members of your fireteam can die, but your team cannot wipe. Wiping removes all of the special mission components. We wiped during the first attempt. Had to start over.

Once turning in the cult ghost you may have to wait a while for FWC to give you (I'm assuming) the quest.

Once you have the quest, kill a Taken yellowbar (Captain), which will drop something.... Or maybe it's the other way around....

Kill Atheon in the VoG... Still a little fuzzy on the final steps. Don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain...

Thanks for the link. I'm already a rank 4 with FWC - on the character that retrieved the cult ghost. Do I need to spin the FWC faction dial another 1000 points to open the next step in the quest? Do I need to wait till the mission is the daily story again?

I turned this in (initial ghost shell) with a toon that was 40+ FWC and I'm hoping the next stop will pop today.  I'll double-check this afternoon and let you know.

yes, it will still require you to add 1000 points to fwc no matter what level you are.

I used motes of light as they seem to be the best bang for the buck

Yup, I added 1025 points to my level 5 FWC just to be sure, by using heavy ammo synths (I had plenty). Didn't take that many anyway. Nothing happened. Some on Bnet suggest it'll not pop till either the next weekly reset or if it becomes a daily story mission before then. Hell... I dunno.

How is it a person is supposed to even have a hint that a special quest is possible? I did the daily yesterday and didn't see anything unusual. I know about a secret path and one ghost that appeared once but the rest is a mystery to me.

I really don't like finding out so much by youtube. C'mon Bungie, give a few hints that are old people friendly.

What, like all those skulls from Halo?  This is exactly what they've been doing in their games since forever.  They're not young or old person friendly; they're more community friendly if anything.  If you pay attention and Google some shit (and/or pay attention on Reddit), you'll find everything you could want and then some.

Stop whining.

You've got a point DEEP. Bungie hides a lot of this stuff away, but I suppose they anticipate once somebody figures it out - whether it be by dumb luck or careful exploration - it will take off like wild fire on the bnet forums and reddit.

I certainly wouldn't know about half of what's in the game without a daily read through various threads on Reddit.

Damn.  I did the daily this morning solo, but am not hooked up to FWC.  Oh well.

Edit:  that was prior to the pain meds.

I'm such an idiot. I went and signed up with New Monarchy by mistake (hey, it was late, I was drunk,...). Now I have to wait till reset to sign up with the correct faction. Sigh.

Actually in my Halo walk thrus I demonstrate how to do some LASO/speed running skips and tricks that either I have found or one of my Mythic/speed running contemporaries have found.  In the H4 Infinity mission alone I demonstrated over a half dozen skips, tricks, and solo tactics that allowed me to finish the mission on Mythic SLASO difficulty in less than 30 minutes.  I actually held the WR for speed running Reclaimer Mythic/SLASO for a few weeks.  All this from others that posted vids of these things (I did find a couple of nice tricks/tactics on my own).  I will probably use vids for help in my H5 Mythic quest.

Now that I have stopped patting myself on the back...I understand the wonder and sense of accomplishment for finding something on your own -- some of the H4 Mythic stuff I did I found myself, but the execution of these missions was so difficult and required so much practice that any help at all, even a hint or pointing me in the right direction was greatly appreciated.

Actually I don't watch too many videos for Destiny; when I do heroic story walk thru videos I generally have already run the story or quest so I have a pretty good idea of the weapons,  positioning, and tactics to use.  When not sure I run it with a friend or fire team and figure out what I need to run it solo.  For example, Deep's positioning on Entropy's Pinnacle looked like a good place to be, so I ran the final battle with my Hunter solo using that approach and did it with no deaths, which is paramount to me when I do walk thrus.   I also was able to run heroic Paradox solo yesterday with my Hunter as well.  I used weapons, tactics, and positioning gleaned from running this with a fire team and although it took 30 minutes, I was able to do it solo with no deaths. The point being that there are multiple ways to get advice or direction on how to do something whether by discovery, repetition, friend, or video.

What is amazing to me is that my little walk thru of opening the VOG door solo has over 6,300 hits and is still getting 25 to 30 hits a day.  Lot's of new Timmies out there I guess.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I am flying a little right now on pain meds.  How sweet it islaugh

So i put "no time to explain" thru the paces last night in crucible its not a bad gun at all

it has the same impact as red death but way better range and stability which is nice, it is for sure a 3sk from medium to long range. the only thing that im not really liking is the electrical charge at the end of the gun, its very distracting. I also tried out the iron banner pulse rifle last night nirwins legacy and i prefer that over no time to explain. Nirwins feels more like messenger to me, plus i like having active radar when i aim and its not distracting because it doesnt have that weird electrical deal going on at the end of the gun.

either way i was able to get about 2.4 kd with no time to explain and a 4.45 kd with nirwins, results may very with different users obviously

but both guns are nice, as far as pve i dont use either in pve, i prefer scout rifles in pvp, but im sure you could use them in pve, the only downside being the mag size isnt huge, i believe one is 24 and one is 30, that goes rather quick with 3 shot bursts tho.

just an fyi

also the last mission in the black garden is fun, you have to kill minataurs to keep your anger up over 100% and snipe the boss who is aetheon esk. he will only appear when you are over the 100% anger meter. which means you have to keep killing minataurs to do so.

I solo'd it, i basically got my anger over 120% ran to the middle, put in 4-6 snipes in the crit of the boss, went back to my spot, killed ads, and repeat. if anyone needs help send me a message and ill jump and help.

Yeah, I still prefer Nirwen's too.  No Time To Explain seems like its more of a campaign weapon.  You just hold down the button on Golgoroth's stomach for the whole time you're in the pit, for example.

Need help, can't even figure out how to get the quest.

A fireteam of old guys went into Paradox hard mode. We never wiped, though there were deaths. Didn't scan the skeleton and went to the jump puzzle areas. Nothing happening there. So I guess I'll have to look up the whole damn thing on the Intershitz.

DEEP, did you guys pick up all three of the dead ghosts/memories? And maybe a stupid question but did you go in when it was the daily? If so and assuming you got the ghosts in order, the jump puzzle should have activated when you picked up the third one.

you have to collect the 3 dead ghost fragments, once you collect the 3rd one it starts the lower jump puzzle and opens the gate

also it has to be done as the daily

Daily too, that makes me real happy. Not.

During the previous daily in Paradox, I collected one Ghost in the secret path under the first chest. Does that count because it wasn't there this time?

Thanks for the info, I need it. I had been trying to get these things done with minimal information but I guess it's not to be.

I even got AARP and DOORGUNNER to change their allegiance to FWC. Oops.

there is one under the first chest, one in the spirit bloom tunnel and one at the bottom of the jump maze and you need all 3 and to beat the boss on the other side of the portal.

the ghosts will only show up in the daily

I joined in on someone after they grabbed the first and second Ghost already.  Grabbing the third Ghost seemed to have been good enough for the whole Fireteam.  So, Deep, if you can't find the first two, jump in after that and be present for the third Ghost.  That person has to then do the lower jump puzzle to the newly awakened Vex gate and it'll teleport you in with him.  Then you do that, beat that boss, open that chest and you get credit.

Yes.  You have to wait for it to be the Daily again.

Doorgunner, Midnight Aurora and Bluestar were along for the successful attempts. Thanks go to them. :)

I'll help anyone who needs this today. My first priority are Over age 50 who don't have the quest for "No Time To Explain."

FYI, you don't need to change your allegiance to FWC until after the mission.

Got 5 through to the chest on 2 attempts. 2 only arrived to the chest after the boss fight and I had to leave to get one of them in.

They all got the Cult Ghost.

I'll take the last 2 through the whole mission for fun another day.smiley

Thanks, Deep, for persistently badgering me with Xbox Live messages until I finally logged on and got the ghost! I'll admit it was a nice break from an all-day "homework" task.
