Spoiler Gameinformer Halo 4 Details Spoiler
Someone posted scans from the magazine. They also wrote out some of the details.
This will not spoil anything you wouldn't read about next week somewhere, somehow.
This is legit. I've seen the scans. 343i will be explaining the details soon.
So I just read the new Game Informer. I just wanted to tell you my take on some of the features they'll be adding or taking away. I won't explain the beginning of the story as I don't think I can do justice to accurately describing it. Of course, if you want to experience and don't want to have that experience spoiled then leave this page.
LAST WARNING, THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS (sorta)
Spartan Points
Spartan Points is the new currency system in Halo 4. They will buy things such as armor, armor abilities, Spartan Ops missions (see below), and some
Spartan Ops
This was probably my most favorite addition I saw. From how it was described, think fo Spartan Ops like Spec Ops from Modern Warfare but with a storyline. They will span out over several months, encouraging players to return to the game. Game Informer said that Spartan Ops will be comparable in scope and size to the in single-player storyline.
Why Reds Fight Blues
I think most of us probably guessed this, but reds fight blues and blues fight reds for training purposes. They fight in something called the UNSC Infinity. The UNSC Infinity is a 3km long ship sent into deep space on a mission. It contains a virtual reality sector that creates the multiplayer experience.
Sprint
So not only is sprint in the game, but it is a standard armor ability. You do not need to pick it up, it will always be available. You do not need to buy it with your Spartan Points, you will always have it equipped no matter what. So essentially, you can have two armor abilities.
Forerunner Vision
Ever wanted to be super man? Now you can! See through walls with your x-ray vision! I can't say I hate this armor ability, I haven't used it yet. I'm hoping it comes with its weaknesses and it discourages camping. Sorry guys, but camping in Halo 4 will not be a legitimate tactic.
Returning Armor Abilities
The hologram, jetpack, and active camo will make a return in Halo 4. It didn't elaborate on the abilities, but you can probably assume they'll be about the same.
Elites Not Returning to Multiplayer
Not much detail was given as to why elites will not see multiplayer combat, it was stated in a picture caption. The caption reads, "Competitive multiplayer focues on the Spartan IVs. Elites will not be playable.
Grenades
Now the article itself did not talk about grenades, but I noticed in the picture the Spartan had 4 grenade options. I assume the plasma grenade will return as seen from an explosion in the picture and the frag grenade will most definitely return as seen by the Halo 4 first look video.
Firefight
Once again, no explanation why aside from a picture caption. The caption read, "Halo 4's campaign is still playable with four players online (in reference to Sparan Ops, ensuring players that Spartan Ops will not replace the campaign coop experience). 343 Industries has no plans to include a dedicated Firefight mode. I'm torn on this, I don't normally play firefight, but I feel like it is a standard necessary feature in the game after Halo 3: ODST introduced it.
Regicide
Regicide is a variation of free for all. I think it's similar to VIP. Regicide, as stated by the article, "sets the leading scorer as the king. Every opponent that the king kills raises his bounty; other players have to kill the king to claim the reward."
Distraction and Revenge Medals
Don't feel bad anymore for not killing a single person in the game, you can get a medal for being a distraction! Oh, you just got killed and now you're raging at that player? Calm down and get rewarded for hunting down the guy that just killed you!
Let me make it clear that I do not necessarily see these medals as bad. They just may reward people that don't actually deserve one.
No More Weapon Camping
One the skills that separated veteran players from inexperienced players was the ability to time power weapons' spawns. In Halo 4, this will be near impossible. Weapons drop down in drop pods at random locations around the map. Quoted from the article, "This gives the matches other focal points, and it also helps alleviate the advantage longtime players always used to have over newer recruits; the best weapons are not always going to be found at the same spawn locations." Unless there is a distinguishable skill gap between players, I most definitely do not like this idea.
No More Respawn Delay
Immediately after you die, by tapping the X button you are sent back into the match. Now let's contemplate why this might be bad. Let's say Halo spawns are... not so great. A skilled player out BRs/DMRs/whatevers a unskilled player. Now that unskilled player can immediately respawn and find you before your shields even regenerate! I understand 343 is trying to speed up the game, but they must understand the consequences of instant spawns.
Joining In-Progress Games
So to solve the quitting problem, 343 implemented the ability to join games that are in-progress. My question is are we going to have the ability to search for games starting up instead? It infuriates me to join a game at the last possible second, not even offering me the chance to play.
I'll be updating this post as I see fit. Feel free to correct me, add your own insight, or add what I may have missed.
X-ray vision = suck
Weapon Drops = suck
I are scared.
Too early to know what's going on. 343i will be putting up a podcast soon.
The last 3 of those suck, especially the random weapon drops. Not real happy about the COD style progression either. At least the BR is back. Hopefully we get a beta or something.
No beta is planned.
the weapon drops might not be as bad as we think IF they're designed like the player spawns.
i wouldn't want to see two pods drop and them both be closer to the other team than my team (ok the other way around though)
we can learn the drop zones and try to predict where they will land by the location of the players on the map.
also, i don't want to get splattered by a weapon pod!!!
...
Part of map control, a large part, I'd say, is keeping positioning on a map. Keeping positioning is done because of the weapons and the consistency of the spawns. I'm interested to see how those reconcile. I mean, it's not like they'll make parts of a map that have nothing to do with anything, just to house a weapon, right? Right?
Yeah, if I had a dog, I'd kick it in the snout. I mean, I bet we're making way too much of these things, or, at least, I am. 343 has said that they're taking seriously about not splintering the user base, and there's plenty of input from competitive folks, so maybe most of this stuff won't be too horrible. The Forerunner Vision is already largely useless if you have any amount of situational awareness, I hear, so that's one shit thing that's not used.
Just...

Hey! I was about to sit there and eat!
┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ)
That's better. No table flipping in these forums mister!
Dear god man, what about the Grifball?! When are they going to get to the important stuff?

All I know is Frankie had better have some WONDERFUL explanations to why they changed so much. In all honesty, the instant respawns piss me off the most. I could handle the weapon drops because a dominant team can still control a map without power weapons (although I still think weapon drops are a terrible idea). However, instant respawns with no punishment completely ruins objective gametypes and even slayer matches to a lesser extent. It just boggles my mind how much they are turning Halo into CoD. smh
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) Y U FLIP TABLE?!
Well, Frankie said they already knew what people would be cranky about and they have explanations ready in a podcast.
Most of these new features are not going away. They will just be explained better.
So far, I have not seen one bad thing unless the Ammo boxes land on your head.
AL not mentioned and Bubble shield was already said to be gone.
Episodic campaign beyond the shipping campaign!!! Incredible!!! I've been asking for this for years!!!
Instant respawn is a terrible idea. Bringing back jetpack is equally bad. So is weapon drops. Did I mention instant respawn is a terrible idea?
The pictures. Very good.
Instant spawning means nothing for now. That is a Gaming Magazine's take on the spawning. Those fuckers are amongst the worst journalists I've seen. Even if instant spawning exists, you can bet that it is adjustable for what ever gametype you choose and even will be independently adjusted for MM playlists gametypes. The same thing exists now except the minimum is 3 seconds. I use that a lot for customs.
Instant spawning is N O T H I N G to be concerned about. It is so easy to adjust.
Instant spawning might even be a red herring from 343i to keep the rabble entertained while waiting +6 months for release.
I can't see instant spawning staying. Another part of map control is keeping people in respawn. Again, this is the very first bit of news we've heard and it's too easy to be flying off the handle but..

You know, it just hit me for the instant spawning. I'll bet it's only for some gametypes and playlists. It would make little sense to have instant respawn on an objective gametype, for example.

Even if instant respawn is slayer only, it still negates a large part of controlling maps. And what aboot my extermination medals?! lol
Press BOMBARD button! All enemies are crushed by WEAPON LOCKERs! Win game! Earn extermination medal!
confirmed?
Hmm, why not have a 40+ kill streak earn you the MAC Cannon ability to end the game, just like in CoD? I must send this idea to 343 as it's the greatest evAr!
And then you can prestige! They take all your armor off and you can only use a pistol, but you get to scratch a smiley face into your visor when you earn it back.
This certainly gives us more to talk (and rage) about. Right now we are all experiencing those "knee jerk" reactions to what has been reported.
Perhaps the weapon drops will be more telegraphed - think of Invasion Slayer where you see weapon drop icons and a countdown on your screen. This does lead to some intense fights over these areas as teams try to control the next drop zone.
I'm not sure what to think about the instant respawns, especially for objective games, but for other gametypes it may be acceptable.
I am also glad to hear they are adding "drop in". If implemented correctely, this could be a good thing. However, it may also make quitting more rampant as people quit and just assume the spots will be filled quickly.
There still isn't much info about their "perks" system. This is what I'm most curious about. I'm ok with FF going away. Seems every game has some version of FF/Horde, so I'm ready for something different.
Instant spawning for Objective gametypes is not in the plans.
That tells me 343 has a few brain cells left at least.
