Two competitive folks, two NeoGaf folks, and casual.  Yay?

Ghost has been more pro-343i lately (hardcore gametypes)? Ninja I don't know of. Tashi (GAF) (slightly pro-343i) (update, forgot he had an exclusive podcast with 343i that I linked to recently) is a skilled player who put a lot of hard work into help organize and test Community Maps (amongst others). Heckfu (GAF) has shown a more balanced attitude towards 343i and Halo 4 in general (no other redeeming quality)(probably shouldn't have been picked). Greenskull (pro-343i and Halo 4)(ultra-positive cheer leader type)(co-runs RUL) deserves to be there as much as anybody in spite of the disparaging comment by his name (Fuck that CYREN for putting that lousy comment in for something from last fall. Asshole.).

Apparently Heckfu was pulling a prank on Twitter. He was not invited.

Destiny will have at least the numer of weapons in the entire Halo series squared, and then squared again.

While 343 is still fixing the few weapons they have, Bungie will have released their game with hundreds of thousands of weapons.

I will give 343 some credit though, it seems they decided to support Halo 4 a bit after all.

So the most important factor in choosing the weapon testers is their attitude towards 343 and not skill? Explains a lot.

I suppose this is just one of those PR events. I doubt testing really has anything to do with the event. With that in mind, I can't see inviting your vocal opponents as being wise. Maybe it is a, you work with us, we'll work with and reward you message. These people will be recognized by a variety of Halo communities.

I think you would want some highly skilled, critical, yet objective people testing the settings, not just some yes men.

If it were really about testing, then I would tend to agree.

I'd put Ninja and Ghost in that category.  I don't have any doubt that they'd be able to provide balance/good criticism.  I don't know the others, and what I do know of the last guy is pretty much like having Deep provide feedback, it seems (mild hyperbole).

I know you won't agree with this. I think it is extremely important to have someone just like me for testing. My stats are an open record of someone who dies a lot and quickly. Yet I still want to play the game. TU REACH and Halo 4 have stretched my capacity to accept my miserable lot, since I find the situation has worsened (less fun).  The weapon tuning will increase the likelyhood of me dying. How acceptable I and others like me will find this situation, is yet to be known.

No, I agree.  It is important to have some perspective, especially when fine-tuning the sandbox.  However, are you looking to cater to individuals that are currently playing the game a lot, trying to win folks back from other titles, or trying to rekindle the interest of mildly-engaged folks that are just on the sidelines, curious about how this is going to work out?

For me, those perspectives are also pretty important, to judge reactions from those folks.  I'm not particularly interested in the opinions of someone who plays campaign only to balance multiplayer, nor am I interested in someone that's only played about a dozen hours, six months after release.  Both of those opinions are largely irrelevant when it comes to (re)building the Halo multiplayer ecosystem.  Someone like Greenskull, who isn't exactly the most skilled player, but who does seem to play a lot of multiplayer, is probably a better gauge for it.

Looking at how you play, Deep, you play mostly custom games.  That's not a negative, but are you saying that with a flatter skill curve, you'd dabble in matchmaking more?  What would bring you, or players like you, into matchmaking more than custom games?

Nothing would likely make my MM frequency be more than Customs but I do want to play more MM than I am currently. I would enjoy a greater chance of reacting to being shot (escape). I frequently notice two hits and then death. That's more of a feedback problem and I don't see 343i working on that btw. Now that kill times may be shortened, will I even feel two hits before death? I will have to let this play out. If I can't survive in the open then I'll have to resort to more sneaking and camping, similar to what I had to do when first playing Halo 2 in 2005. I was well know for hiding behind boxes. It was the only way I could cope.

Sounds like your connection really blows if you're getting hit twice, then die.  Either that or you're just confused by all the gunfire.

It's a losing effort.  What 343 needs to do is narrow the search parameters so you are matched up against similarly skilled players.  In Halo 3 that happened quite often due to the large populations in each playlist.  Matches were close and k/d's weren't as high as Reach and H4.  Reach almost completely eliminated this, and H4, while better than Reach, still leaves a lot to be desired in the MM department.

A PR event, plain and simple, but why the need to have an "event" just to show updates to the weapons? Oooohhh, that weapon took one fewer shot to kill!

Just roll out the settings instead of all the patting on the back and telling us all about your hard work. I guess I'm still wrapping my head around the fact these updates won't be out until June 3rd, better late than never...lol

Hopefully this release date is not influenced by the fact they want to do an "event". Nah, I'm sure there is very little chance of that happening.

The proposed changes do sound promising and I am looking forward to actually picking up the BR again.

Theory - Weapon tuning is a nice to have for H4, but really understanding for H5, which I'm starting to be under the opinion will be available for launch or for Christmas.

Thanks for playing Halo: Reach!  It sucks, so it's the beta for Halo 4.

If they add some new weapons in Halo 5 I expect the game to be so broken the disc comes cracked in the case.

I'm willing to be surprised of course.  I might not be willing to take a break from Destiny depending on release dates.

Here's a question - Is Halo as a franchise on a steady decline rather than any individual game or changes causing it?  Are people overall losing interest in Halo?

I have steadily been losing faith, not in the halo franchise, but in the developer.  bungie released Reach and then abandoned ship.  The maps have been suckage since the end of H3 (which if memory serves correctly, they were outsourced).

The franchise is moving toward a BTBesque atmosphere, yet BTB is still capped at 16, and the maps really aren't that big for BTB.

343i and their outsourced map devs are the cause of the sinking of the franchise.  Die hard fans are sick of paying for broken promises, failed delivery dates, and half assed launches.

I would have appreciated some ambition or creativity with the Halo 4 weapons.  I mean sure some have a cool death animation, or cool animation when you reload or pick them up... but how many don't fall into a role already held by other Halo weapons?

For example, I would have replaced the Railgun with a weapon that does minimal damage but has a large amount of force.  Keep the firing speed and type, reload speed, aiming, ammo count etc., but make it instead of an instant kill a tight cone of 'push' effect.  Send a vehicle tumbling if you hit it from up close, or spartans get pushed away too.  Objects like fusion coils could be thrown by it into strategic areas.

Instead we get a one hit sniper, a rocket launcher with submunitions, an smg, another mid range rifle, another automatic weapon, a weapon that may as well be C4 with mini-radar... They have a cool look in a very well defined and often already filled role.  There wasn't much along the lines of a Needler, plasma grenade, gravity hammer, or anything creative Bungie made.  We just got more, and flashier.  Not new.

Why didn't they have the pulse grenade be proximity based detonation, like tripped by motion but not crouched spartans?  Or turn promethean vision into the pulse grenade so it has a throwable limited range around where it lands?  I mean even making a low damage high rate of fire weapon that they added do less damage but disable electronics such as AA or the HUD for the hit player would have been more innovative than what they ended up doing.

Sure, some of these ideas I made probably would have balance issues.  They would be exciting and fresh though, and I made them up in seconds.  Plus, 343's weapons that were more flashy than creative have balance issues anyways.

Didn't 343 see the problems with the Halo 4 Mauler?  Why did they make it an instant kill you could spawn with?  And it can get headshots too... First timers, heh

Oh well!

The mauler was pretty awesome, at least it was like an underpowered shotgun vs a bioshock upgraded shotgun :) I really miss the SMG pistol dual wield. That was a deadly combo with burst firing the smg and firing the pistol. Ahh memories.

You know, my least favorite game type in H3 was Team Duals.  I eventually just used plasma grenades only.  Plus, my friend and his brothers that ended up on the other team liked pointing eight SMGs my direction and that was.. well, it was quick at least.

Dual wielding did allow quite a few new ways of using weapons.  Plasma Pistol and Mauler?  Sure.  SMG and Pistol as you say?  Yeah, that's a good one.  Dual Plasma Pistols just to annoy people?  Why not.  None of it felt extremely out of place or broken to me though.  It was fun and let people try new and unexpected things.  At least, the hope was the other team didn't expect it!

I'll see what 343 does with Halo 5.  It's odd that they are seemingly rushing, because it'd be crazy early to have Halo 5 for the new Xbox launch.  Next years Holiday Season would see Halo 4 starved for players I bet.

It'll be interesting to see how they can introduce new weapons into the storyline or remove old ones as well as balancing them against existing weapons in the same roles.

I'm fine with seeing weapons in the campaign that never make it to multiplayer, for balancing reasons.  In fact, that could even be encouraged.
