Journey
Journey
No, not Tukker's favorite band....the PSN game "Journey". :)
Why aren't you playing it yet?
I grabbed this last night and it's awesome. Didn't have much time to put into it but I loved what I saw.
Typical with thatgamecompany games, they don't tell you how to play or what to do. The first few minutes you're shown the controller and which buttons do something in the game and that's about it. After that you're set to wander the desert looking for whatever it is you're looking for.
I encountered one player on the first big puzzle in the game -- You have to construct a bridge to get to the next section. With no voice communiucation by design, the only way you can communicate is by hitting circle and emitting a chime. Your character lights up when you do it. We were both able to understand each other just by using chimes and solved the puzzle...and got the trophy for crossing the bridge without fully completing it.
Do yourself a favor and pick this up.
Looks pretty cool, thanks for the heads up.
Everything this dev makes is worth picking up !!!
No doubt.
I played through the game last night and really enjoyed it.
I don't know if we can use the spoiler tag on the new boards or not. If not, ignore the next part if you haven't played it:
MAJOR SPOILER -- Really...don't read this if you want to be surprised in the game.....
The feeling you get when your character dies huddled with your companion while trekking up the mountain, then ascending to the afterworld and having the opportunity to complete your goal that you worked hard for (at least what I took from it) is a pretty exhilarating feeling. The music cues as you rush up the mountain top with your companion and flying through the air with the end in sight really draws you in. As simple as it all is, there really aren't that many games that can pull off that level of excitement after only committing about two hours with the characters.
END MAJOR SPOILERS (just in case those tags didn't work and I can't edit the damn post)
For the trophy hounds, in one run through I got 3 out of about 14 or so trophies. Two were for finishing the game (finish with the same companion for most of the game, and return to the begining) and one was for the first puzzle (cross the bridge without fully completing it.) Look at the trophy list AFTER you finish it to see what you should do/look for. The trophy hunt will give it some replay value.
Games as art.
If you don't get the deeper meaning of this "game" I really don't know what to say to you.
I'm going to miss thatgamecompany as a SONY exclusive. They fulfilled their 3 game contract and I hope they don't loose that magic by chasing the audience/money. Flow was interesting, Flower was on another level and Journey will be remembered as the ICO of this gen at the very very least (if not exceeding it) . If you get it, it is incredible, just trust me.
On a technical note, I don't recall if Flower used PhyreEngine but damn, for a "free" engine it's pretty gd good.
I drunk dowloaded this last night.
Excited to give it a try.....the screen saver made me motion sick !
So I ran through this yesterday.....it was the most peaceful game I have ever played!
I did end up missing a lot of stuff! After the first puzzle I started sliding down some dunes and ended up at the end of the second level or maybe the third? Anyway this seemed to happen a couple of times. I am going to run through it again and see if I can't get everything.
All and all I am a fan!
o and WTF is up with the giant butt crack in the sky? Not normally something I would Journey to (unless it was Nix's mom)!
LOL!
Game is amazing!
Congratulations on your first post Freelancer! lol
This would be an amazing game to cross play with the Vita. Hopefully soon.
Yeah, finally figured out how to use this new version...
