Playstation 4 Companion App List

Sony released an official companion app for the Playstation 4. In additon there are several games with companion apps. I thought it would be helpful to list them all in one place. I don't use Android (or Windows Phone) so I may not have those apps linked. Feel free to reply with any I miss and I'll add them.

PocketGamer has a similar list here.

I wish developers would work with the platform owner (i.e. Sony and MS) to incorporate these as add-ins to the standard PS companion app and Smart Glass.  I dont want dozens of different apps just to support second screen.

Updated Assassin's Creed 4 app to "iOS" as it now supports both iPad and iPhone.

It would be nice for sure. There are a few legitimate reasons for doing separate apps though:

  • Sony's companion app is currently iPhone only. It'll run on the iPad, but not a full screen resolution.
  • A separate app can be used without the system and game running. For example, being able to manage your fleet in AC4 while at work or giving a buddy extra boost during a NFS race.
  • I don't know what restrictions are on second screen apps. Can a game update the second screen map position every 1/10th of a second? How many resources does it take from the game to have the second screen app running? It may well be more efficient and a better experience to have the app running on a separate device.
