Great video from Drive Channel about the racing mentality
This could possibly be the most important video that will ever be posted here. A racers mindset has a bigger effect than any amount of tuning. I hope everyone watches this video. What do you guys think?
Not bad - I can see why you put it here.
"Bring it on motherfucker, I feed off the pressure" <- that made me laugh
There's been a few of these Shakedown videos that are pretty much all good views
I think my favorit quote was "which one of you fuckers is finishing 2nd today?"
I also think he made a really good point when he mentioned that when you're focused, it's almost like someone else is driving the car & he's just watching. It's almost as if you become detached. It's purely your conciousness in control & not your head.
I think he's sort of right about confidence, but its easy to confuse it and make bad decisions. :)
But, like all these things - take the concept from it and apply it to what you know :)
Very informative, I think the best advice was to keep your emotions in check and to focus on one corner at a time. It might be obvious but I often get distracted by the car behind and don't concentrate on the upcoming corner which in turn creates a better chance of cocking it up and letting the car behind past. Also awareness, seeing how the driver in front takes the corners and then planning ahead to the next lap when you know you can take a quicker line and make a clean pass. I must try that line before a race. :)
Its a good point that I teach when training. But the other point is, that you aren't just watching the driver in front to see where you can over take, you are also watching to see where they are faster than you and why they are. What you dont want to do is make an overtake and then have them retake their positon because they are faster in the next session. Your laptimes will drop off by some 3/4 seconds - Not good when there is a pack of cars chasing you.
Track awareness is a huge thing, many people think sticking to their line is whats known as racing. That isn't true, you only have right of way if you are on the inside of the corner and your front bumper is more than the drivers door of the car on the outside.
Knowing when a car has missed their brake point is also a thing to watch for, if he's closing too fast on you then move to the inside. They'll either fly off the track, or be unable to make a pass :)
Cool vid, the emotion thing I can relate to, a few weeks ago I could prepare for a race, enter a race and just focus on the race...end result some good results and a series win. Lately because of a seemingly endless stream of issues affecting my ability to get into a room I am tense, and often wound up from rushing up and down stairs resetting routers, waiting for computers to reboot etc etc. End result? back of pack and frustrated. Mind set is everything, and I have been unable to get that right of late in Forza races. On PC I am free of issues mainly because I run in the afternoon when my broadband is still playing ball, my mind is clear, I am confident in my equipment and once again I am able to put in a winning performance.
Well I am still waiting for my internet issue to be sorted but when I do, I cannot wait to get back to focusing on one thing, and one thing only...the next corner.
