Introduce yourself!
Hi everyone and welcome to the 2old2retro group. I set this up as a place people could go to talk about old games, be nostalgic and still talk about new releases, remakes etc. Hopefully it will be as open as possible so members can drop in and out when a thread of interest captures them.
As I'm also a keen collector and hoarder of games I hope to find some like-minded geeks on here to discuss such exciting topics as the value of well-kept instruction booklets and the like.
So to get us started, my name is Ciaran and I’ve been playing games since the early 80’s. The first time I saw a video game at home was when my older brother bought some console (don’t know what) with a light gun. I was blown away with what it could do and although he wouldn’t let me touch it I was in love. My first hands on was, like a lot of kids in Ireland and the UK with a Sinclair Spectrum 48k computer. A friend of mine got one of the rubber key models and we all used to gather at his house and take turns playing games like Jetpac, PSSST and Tapper. I managed to get the upgraded 48k model myself a year later. Back then budget games cost about 3 dollars and as they were stored on cassette tapes, it was pretty easy get all the latest games. Some of my best memories are playing co-op with my buddies on games like Bubble Bobble, Ikari Warriors and Matchday2. I moved onto the upgraded 128k Spectrum model but its days were numbered as 16 bit consoles gained in popularity.
From the Spectrum I jumped onto the SNES and discovered Mario. Highlights from this era are fighting games like Streetfighter 2 and Mortal Kombat which I played at University with house mates and various buddies. I stuck with Nintendo when the N64 came out and had a great time with multiplayer games like Goldeneye and Mario Kart. Nothing beats Goldeneye at 4am after a nightclub and a skin-full of beer.
When it was time for me to grow up and get a job I bought a Gamecube...go figure....and later a PS2. Games like GTA and Final Fantasy X stand out from this time. So finally I purchased an Xbox360 and here I am! I still like beer and multiplayer games. I’ve spent a lot of time in the last few years playing various Battlefield games but always make time for some retro gaming. I’m currently playing Ikari Warriors (PSN), Banjo Tooie (XBL), Final Fantasy V (PSP), Chrono Trigger (PSP) amongst others.
I'm Chris and I've been gaming since the tail end of the 80's. My first gaming system of my own though was an Amiga 500+ and how I loved it! I remember playing games such as Menace, Commando, Rainbow Islands, Dizzy Egg games etc. I remember putting extensive time into a little game called Pinball Dreams, this was my 1st love affair with a game made by Digital Illusions CE (50 points to the person who guesses my other DICE loves lol).
After my Amiga I moved onto a variety of systems, my friends and I spent many an hour playing various games on Megadrive and PC every weekend and after school. Some of the more notable games for me were Elite (and possibly my favourite game Frontier: Elite 2), Command and Conquer, Mortal Kombat, Skitchin', Road Rash and Speedball 2.
This progressed on to the N64 (all about Goldeneye!!) Playstation (Final Fantasy 7, Thrill Kill, Resident Evil 1 & 2 and Cool Boarders 2 are stand outs), Playstation 2 (Silent Hill 2, GTA3 and Vice City and the 2 Need for Speed Underground games), Xbox and Xbox 360. We did do the rounds on the NES and SNES but always seemed to gravitate back to other consoles.
Even though I came late to the party I have had the pleasure of enduring the painful loading times of the Spectrums, C64 and Atari systems. Now if only I had the spare funds to get this collection built up I'd be a very happy gamer!!
Hi, I'm Ernest and I am a retrogamer (Crowd: "Hello Ernest")
I was born in 76, been playing since I was 8.
I started with a Sinclair, then a Amstrad Cpc 6128 (still of my favorites), Atari St. I went on playing on PC in the early nineties.
During these years I played a lot on consoles at my buddies' places, Nes, Genesis, Snes, etc
I switched to consoles in the early 2000's when I started to work, I played on PS2 then I purchased an Xbox 360, just because of Oblivion .
Emulation was like a second birth to me, I have various emulators on every computer I own, love the abundance of roms, it reminds me the shoe boxes I had filled with floppy disks, all original games of course
I am also the proud owner of a Neo Geo system, which I bought in a flea market a few years back.
Ciaran, is Ikari warriors exclusively on PSN? The first coop game I've ever played
Sup guys, my name is Luis and I'm a retro enthusiast.
I was born in '83 and my first memmories are of the 2600 and the NES. I've gone up the console ladder ever since. I can play nes-n64 via hardware but most through emulation. I aspire to be a collector but dont have the means now.
I spend time making youtube videos about gaming and retro gameplay/casual reviews.
Hi Luis, collecting can be an expensive business but its great fun as well. I'm going to set up a topic with some thoughts soon.

Welcome Lou
Hi Lou! Ever think about selling your collection? Must be worth a bit.
My name is Clint, and I'm a gaming addict. I started with the Atari 2600 & NES, and moved progressively down the line. Currently, I only own a 360 & PS3, but am always looking for a good retro collection. I recently started on emulators - so far I have GBA, NES, SNES, Sega (SMS, Genesis & Game Gear), and PS1. I could use a good Dreamcast one, if you have any suggestions.
Welcome to the group..I would suggest ebay on finding a dreamcast or check your local thrift stores and flea markets you never know what you can find there
Welcome Clint.
Poncho has been the name for awhile so I will stick with that. First system was a 2600. Jumped to the Colecovision and that is my favorite retro system of all time. I will add more later, but the new Counter Strike on XBLA is calling me.
Hi Poncho!
Buenos dias, Poncho.
Welcome to the group Poncho
Thanks everyone.
My name is Jen, gaming wife of fellow member Lucent97 a.k.a Jesse. My first game I ever played was Dr. Mario for the NES. Not only am I a hardcore Nintendo fan, but I'm also a retro gamer at heart, continuing to play some of my favorite older games, such as MegaMan X, Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, just to name a few.
Welcome
