Ah just messing, I was nice to you the other day so... And a very fair question, What is Parcells doing in here stirring up insurrection? ....Oh see what I did there Parcells, fickle that's me.
Sorry guys. Parcells thought Knight updated the title of the "other thread", seen an opportunity to poke fun at Church, obviously couldn't resist, had my fun and a little later realized "this isn't the thread I thought it was, what is Parcells doing in here?"
My insincere apologies, it'll never happen again, I'll go back to my room now.
My names Angel better known as "INKABODPAIN" name came from the Sleepy Hollow story "Ichabad Crane" I' m a tattoo designer no actual tattooing but design creator . I'm from the east coast or to be more acurrate Florida. At this time I only play console sims being that my computer is not made from gaming. I was told to swing by and check out this side of the coin being that I mostly hang out on the 2old 4forza side.Thats where I met Knight which I must say was very helpful with a problem I was having , I was trying to update my Csr Elite wheel. Anyway I am ready......
I would like to start building my own gaming computer specifically for sim racing. Now I'm going to buy it piece by piece and pretty much take my time unless I find great deals on parts needed. So my question is what to buy first and what you guys recommend. I also don't want to break the bank. (Trying to stay under $1000.00) So any help would be great .Thanks. I m using a csr elite wheel that I use on Xbox360 and PS3. I already have 3 monitors ,keyboard, mouse that I have in storage.
Welcome mate that budget is well doable, and by taking your time you can grab deals. that is what I did and have a rig that runs every sim at full settings.
Motherboard, Asus, I use the Sabertooth 990 fx good deals on that one at the moment and it is a work of art, but any decent Asus MB, Money spent here is well worth it.
Processor, well much debate over AMD and Intel. I went AMD for me the best bang for buck on a budget. 64 bit and anything around 3.8 to 4Ghz, mine is the AMDfx 400, mine is turbo boosted to 3.9 Ghz and never brakes into a sweat.
GPU, NVIDIA have the edge at the moment, I use the GTX 670 2gig but the new GTX660 is very close in performance and cheaper, but the better GPU you can squeeze out the budget...well the better. If you can pick uo a 4gig so much the better, but my 2gig is running triples fine.
Power Supply, once again get a good one, 650 to 750 watts should see you right,
Hard drives, the new SDHD's are worth a look, I don't have one as I swapped out the HDD's from my old system.
Hope that gives you a starting ground for some research.
I guess I should post a little intro since I'm posting in here now
Some of you will know me from 2O4F where I've been lurking for the last few months but I've re-kindled my love for PC based racing again after quite a while away!
I live just outside Edinburgh, Scotland, I've just turned 40 and married to my Mexican wife with a little girl just over 2. I work as a field service engineer for Coca-Cola but spent the first 13 years of my working life in the Motor Trade as an Auto Electrician which included working on race/rally cars, although those were more at club/amature than professional level.
If it can be raced I'll give it a go, and although I'm not fast I'm usually quite consistant (I know my limits). I like to race clean (although Church would probably disagree after last weeks Yaris cup) and probably my biggest downfall since getting into 2OF4 is maybe giving up the place a little too easy to avoid making contact.
I have many PC based racing titles, most SimBin/10tacle stuff including all the Steam titles although my only online racing was with LFS many years ago and more recently with FM4 since I joined 2O4F. I'm using a Fanatec setup (GT2, CSP, shifters and a Playseat) although I've had many wheels over the years from my first Microsoft Precision Wheel back in the day, through a Logi Momo Racing (which I still have and was bought for LFS), MS Wheel for xBox and onto the Fanatec with a few others inbetween!
My PC is due an upgrade (Intel C2D 3.3GHz, 8GB 1066 RAM, Factory Overclocked GTX 580, SSD etc.) it was overclocked to 4.1GHz but it's being giving me greif the last couple of nights so I've knocked it back to stock! It does the job for now and has served me well since 2009, but I'm probably looking at a modest upgrade in May/June of CPU/Mobo/Memory. I've also got two xBox 360's and two PS3's as well
I've recently taken up a 3 month free trial of iRacing again (Vincent Paul3) and if I decide to keep playing I'll re-sub my original account although I've only really driven the MX5 Cup car in time trials but had lots of fun in the process!
Okay, I can tell I'm boring you now but I hope to see some of you in the near future in Race 07/WTCC/STCC/iRacing I'm mapo_uk on steam if anyone cares to add me!
Welcome m8!
Every sat at 12pm mountain time we run a race 07 series.
We run a bi weekly series...wtcc cars on btcc tracks all the info and downkoads/dates are located in the race series section :) on the off weeks till the series is over we test mods for future series, just browse the forum for details
Most of us are gbr members here so if u have rfactor/iracing as well check them out they hold nightly race series.....just ask helios for the info :)
Atm were generally running touring car series, but between the 2 groups we pretty much have all styles covered !
If you have any questions dont be affraid to ask, not all of us are computer techs but we can usually put our minds together to figure something out lol
Hope to see you on the track soon!
Cheers
Hi mate, great to have you, we are new and slowly growing and as Kuript says if you can dive in on the BTCC, its a gas. Give GBR a look too, they run races on a Sunday at Euro friendly times and are a great bunch of guys even given they mostly come from that strange place across the sea.

You mean Canada? Yeah, those guys are strange, amirite?
A Canadian guy, American guy, a ugly woman and gorgeous woman are sitting in opposing seats on a train. After some initial introductions of where they're from and where they're going, they settle in to do their own thing and basically ignore each other.
Some time later, the train enters a tunel and all goes black, then suddenly they hear a big slap. As the train exits the tunnel there's the American with the side of his face all red wearing a look of shock.
In the mind of the ugly woman, "That American tried to grope the gorgeous girl and she slapped him!"
In the mind of the gorgeous woman, "That American tried to grope me, but got the ugly woman instead and she slapped him!"
In the mind of the American, "That Canadian tried to grope the gorgeous woman and she tried to slap him but got me instead!"
In the mind of the Canadian, "I hope we go through another tunnel so I can slap that American again"
LMFAO that is a great joke. But I have watched enough You can't do that on television and degrassi junior high to know that canadians aren't violent, just the hockey players.
Hey Kurupt! Remember YCDTOTV? I freaking loved that show!
Funny thing about canadians is that everyone thinks were super nice and non violent people, but were actually super sarcastic and wont hesitate to punch our best friend in the face while drinking and follow up with an apology lol
Edit: apparently i hit enter before finishing that sentance :)
New driver here that's happy to join your community. Over on Reddit, Neverender158 convinced me that this was the place to be!
Bit about myself, real name is Tom and I'm a 33 years old, mechanical engineer living in London. Married with no kids (yet...) and looking to get back into a bit of simracing.
My history with simracing started back in the days of Indy 500 on the 386/486 PCs. From there, I moved on to Geoff Crammond's (hallowed by his name) GP games 1, 2 & 3. When GP4 was released, I managed to save up to buy a MS Sidewinder FF wheel, which I still own, and then I was hooked. Since then I've raced a bit of L4S, fRactor, GPL & GTR but haven't touched a game for 5 or so years. I was part of the TRM racing league back in 2006(ish) that used to run bi-weekly races in GTR which (on a good day) included up to 20 people. Nothing's ever matched that in terms of simracing for me and so that's what I'm after again.
I'm definitely not very fast and just try to race consistently and cleanly.
Anyway, I've reinstalled rFactor, dusted off the old Sidewinder and have installed the BTCC mod in anticipation. Looking forward to seeing you guys out on the track soon.
theres still a few weeks till the start of the btcc season so lots of time to get acustomed to the cars and tracks.....if ya need any help with tech issues, tuning or race line tips dont be affraid to ask!
someone hear will gladly point ya in the right direction :)
Got my old wheel out and it's broken...I've already ordered a new Fanatec GT3 with CSR Elite wheels but I've no idea how long it'll take to get here. Hope it's in time for the start of the season. Do you have a date in mind yet?
More than likely the first sat in may...we're still testing the mod and working on bugs....I my self just bought that wheel combo it took just over a week so u should be good!
Also like I said to knight the other day. As long as you car is in the right place on a track what's it matter?
Ah just messing, I was nice to you the other day so...
And a very fair question, What is Parcells doing in here stirring up insurrection? ....Oh see what I did there Parcells, fickle that's me.

Welcome to 2old2race fella.
I would srart with a decent motherboard, CPU, and RAM.
Then a good HDD, psw and graphics card.
Then maybe a nice case and some cooling.
DVD drives are dirt cheap so not high on the get list I suppose.
