Is it time to put this place to rest...
Is it time to put this place to rest...
While a small amount of folk have done their best to keep this place alive, seeing many posts of the Forza forum about various PC related racing stuff has caused me to wonder if there is any point in keeping this going...When Church and I set about creating this space is was with high hopes it would slowly grow, the opposite has happened. Pretty much the only posters here are GBR members and...well...What's the point? Despite being on the same site as 2o4f it seems some of them see this as another world and nothing to do with them. So what do those of you that have suported the division think? Do we carry on in the hope that things pick up? Or shut down and leave the Forza forum to cover everything? I would like to keep going, but if the small amount of PC racers are going to remained devided between two rooms in the same house for whatever reason, then to be honest it can only be counter productive.
This is a shame to see this go i have been thinking about posting here as i have just started on iRacing and feeling a little lonely in the sense there is no 2o2r or 2o2p or 2o4f leagues or teams (other than the one i set up that has 2 members in lol) Id like to see the whole lot become one big division as a lot of us race on more than one console or game but like Kurupt said most of the admins of 2O4F havent been as active Its a shame really as i know we all have bigger forums and leagues we are in but nice to have a smaller group we know and baner with on a regular basis
It's not a done deal Snoop, there were two motivations behind this post, one the genuine thought that maybe this corner of 2o2p was not worth keeping up, second the hope that maybe it would kick start an interest in keeping it going. When it started the idea was not necessarily to be running organized races, but just as a place for the PC racers to have a home here to hang out and post about the hobby. If the odd race among members happened all well and good but that was not the be all and end all as far as the founders were concerned. Unlike the Forza Forums are...or were when I was a regular there, we don't have a single sim we have all locked onto. We all have our chosen favorite go to. That has at times been a bone of contention he he, but Racers are a passionate bunch and that can come out when they post. So if I ask for shut down 2O2R it will not be overnight or without a lot of thought :)
So to be honest it was seeing people posting about PC racing at 2O4F that made me wonder, why are we here if people don't post about it here? I think maybe I will pop over there now and just remind folk we are here.
Hey knight,
to be honest: I did not know, that here is a PC-racer forum. Uuppss. Now I saw your post about closing and .... well ... it worked. I am here.
But I don't know how long. In iRacing are only few of us and those good old times are not ..... renewable. WIth teams, competitions and weekly races. In iRacing because that "hosting own races" costs real money. Even if this sim and the racing is excellent for our kind of racing - fair, clean and space giving - it is expensive, when it comes to organize own events, because you have to buy server time. Sad, but not changeable.
Other PC based racing titles are not an option for me either, because I play it with my business notebook. There isn't a good graphic card. It works for iRacing, but not for f.e. Grid Autosport or rfactor. That is the game you play, right?
May be in some months I will be able to buy a game pc - or I will get the old one from my son :-) but until then ...... I won't be here around every day. I promise I will look and post, because I do not want to close "2 old 4 racing".
CU someday on a track. I am sure you will be fast and you will win.
JDan
PS: Your rig and equipment makes me jealous.
Hi Jdan yes iRacing is excellent in many ways but that pricing model makes it the most expensive option out there, glad you found us at last and all it will take is for a few more folk to respond and it makes it worth staying. It's not that I want to see a load of posts everyday, nice though that would be, just to know people are aware that we are here and of use :)
Yeah I love my race rig, having no children, I get to have all the toys ;)
I will have a good think about going back to iracing for a while, I have all the base content plus a few additions and it annoys me that the money spent on that gets wasted, so every now and then I grab a cheap deal, race until it runs out and wait for the next one. I have been hoping they offer a cheap year deal, it happens now and again but so far no luck.
I've been popping back here every so often, but didn't have anything worth while to post.
The last ever championship we ran, started out ok, but the numbers vanished as the GBR league created a GT championship which clashed with our race day and time, and everybody defected over there. I turned up to race for the further 2 following rounds, but I was the only person who showed up on the server. I haven't been racing online since racing here last.
My issue or disagreement in the past was not the mod it self, it was that a standard mod was being selected, but It was then being modified to suit an individuals preferances.
