Operation Broadside Weekend July 13 - July 15
Operation BROADSIDE puts our reinforcements to work by coordinating large-scale attacks against the Reapers on multiple fronts. The objectives vary from planet to planet and theater to theater, but the common goal is to develop a sustainable fighting method with a minimal loss of life.
Squad Goal: Extract at least one squad member against Reapers on Gold difficulty
Allied Goal: Extract 400,000 squads against Reapers on ANY difficulty
Special Circumstance: None
Squad Goal Success: All squad members awarded a Commendation Pack
Allied Goal Success: All players awarded a Victory Pack. Medi-gel cap increases from 5 units to 6.
Operation: Broadside begins at 10am PST on Friday July 13and ends at 10am PST on Sunday July 15.

I want to try this Reaper extraction on GOLD. Only have done Geth on Gold before.
I suck at Gold. I'm out for this weekend, looks like I should have done the one 2 weeks ago with the vorcha. Oh well
It never hurts to try. Even if you wipe on wave 6, you get the same credits as a Silver match and in less time. I have little experience on Gold myself, but I have been wanting to try it now that I am more confident on Silver. Break out the Lvl 3 equipment, choose an easy base (Dagger or Hydra maybe?) and stick together. Should be fun!
Looks like I'm going to have to go on a JEP spending spree so I have enough medigels for this. Also, I hate these gold extraction goals. I've got a tough enough time on Silver if the stars don't align right, I can only imagine the nightmare that is gold.
I can try, but I'll definitely need to roll my Salarian Infil with the widow sniper to even have a chance.
And lots of rockets :p
I've been doing some research on some tactics that are generally well regarded for trying Gold. Here's what I've learned:
Team and Character Composition:
All Biotics - Generally regarded as a good starting tactic. Run a good combination of Reave and Warp and spam from cover for biotic explosions
Equip level 3s
Objectives:
Pizza, Upload, Disables - Have someone(s) draw enemies away from objectives. Be careful about using rockets to kill enemies since they'll just respawn. It seems better to just try to draw them away.
Eliminate Target - Use rockets on targets on wave 10.
Extraction:
Don't sit on the extraction point and try to defend it. Stay mobile and run to Extraction with 20-30 seconds remaining. Be wary of using rockets here too unless desperate as enemies will just respawn. We've done this, generally, with success.
General:
Try to get through first 3 waves without using consumables
Be wary of revive. Generally folks should medigel themselves unless things aren't too hairy.
Stay mobile. When a flank collapses, fall back and run and move
I've never played Gold except to farm once or twice, so I'm not sure if any of this works. We've had some good success on Silver with some of these concepts, so it seems like it should work.
Thanks wikiri, I was thinking the same thing. Post some tips here. I did some reading on the Bioware forums and came up with these threads:
This one is for general tactics. the original post (OP) is good, but these threads tend to deterioprate with time so who knows what it looks like when you click it.

This guy has a thread for team combos:

Hope some of that helps!
We should try and practice a couple silver/gold runs durring the week this week with out gear boosts/amps. I have a couple ideas on how to make this work.
In Law in town visiting this week so my time will be limited, but I like the idea of going ahead and jumping in and getting some experience under our belts before the weekend. Looking forward to it!
I'm happy to report that we had two successful Gold runs against reaper, with me (Hadjare), LocGaw, Custom 45, and Slater. We ran on Firebase White against Reapers, equipping only Gear (no other equipment).
First Run:
Drell Adept, 2 Asari Adept, Phoenix Adept
We camped down in the 'farm' room, with an Asari Adept and Phoenix Adept primarily holding the room, an Asari Adept outside, and the Drell floating between the room and outside. I don't remember the exact objectives; I think it was a pizza, disable device, and upload, not in that order. Upload was at the spot folks normally camp to snipe both the landing area and the lower level, and we bobbed around on the stairs and pulled it off. Biotic explosions really cleaned up through the early waves, and the Smash of the Phoenix Adept helped out when things got too close. Things got yucky in the later waves with lots of Banshees, but we fell back to spawn area outside the farm room to deal with them. Good rocket usage. Extraction got...interesting, starting down outside the farm room and finally running to get a Sole Survivor.
Second Run:
Human Sentinel, Asari Adept, Phoenix Adept, drell Adept
We camped the landing; the space between the upper level and lower level inside the base. The Phoenix Adept and Asari Adept sat by the door where the ammo packs are, and the Drell and Human were in the landing looking up the stairs. Warp, Throw, Reave, and Smash got biotic explosions, and fell back to the landing where everyone dealt with Banshees or kited enemies to use rockets to take down lots of enemies at once. Objectives were 2 disables and 1 eliminate target. On these disables we had some success with kiting and drawing aggro and having a lone runner disable....whoever was closest to the device. For extraction, started down outside farm room again, and scattered when things got too messy. Successful extraction with 2 people.
Based on this practice I really like our chances for this weekend, especially on this map with characters built around biotic explosions. It should even be better since we'll be using equipment (ammo, armor, weapon) on the real deal.
Thanks to Custom for the idea about using the landing. Definitely a viable spot.
I was expecting that to be a lot tougher. Maybe because of the strategy that we always took on gold runs before with Infiltrators and sniper rifles? We were rocking out the biotic combos on demand. I think all of us were using pistols too(Carnifex, Phallanx and Paladin) but we still kept the recharge time low.
I came away feeling good and I am sure we are going to crush this challange.
I am not so sure that Infiltrators and Engineers would have been as effective.
One of the things about biotic explosions that takes away some of the banshee's sting is the ability to trigger a biotic explosition on her while she's going through her insta-kill animation in order to get her to drop your teammate. Very useful.
With the rate we were spamming the Biotics and the builds we were running, it is actually easy to pull off too.
Look for me over the weekend.
I have most of thos echaracters already set up after reading a coupole threads on the BIOWARE site that described similar parties for doing this against reapers.
The concensus was to use biotics, not weapons against reapers. An infiltrator may be useful on objectives but the other memebrs need to be Asari Justicar or Adept, Drell Adept,
Phoenix Adept or Vanguard, Human or Turian Sentinel.
Just one extraction for the reward on GOLD then do some on bronze and Silver.
I still dont know how Gold is considered hard at this point. If you have a good team that is specced right, on the right map you will never lose.
Well, try to space out weapon fire with the biotics.
For example, you should be able to fire 3-4 shots from a Paladin while your next biotic cools down. A L6 Paladin+L3 pistol amp+L3 incendiary+a commando amp adds up a lot of DPS in addition to the biotic combo.
So there was some confusion regarding the ending time. Found this on the forums. Those foilks need to get their shit together. Why do they always post these things with so many errors? UGH!
Here is the original post from BSN:
I only just now got a PM back from a dev (I messaged a slew of them yesterday when I saw them on and active)...
I know it is after the fact, but I finally got a Bioware dev to confirm what the official end time of this event was... Derek Hollan PM'd me back saying:
Hi DR,
The official time is the blog time. 10AM PST, Friday to 4AM PST Monday.
Cheers
So, Chris mis-typed on the first post of the operation thread -- the Bioware blog time was the correct time, so everything we did after 10am PST yesterday DID count towards the weekend operation.
So glad my friends and I kept at the community goal yesterday afternoon/evening (just in case the blog was the right time).
I just don't understand why it's so hard for them to get the right information out in the first place.
Double Post
I know! How hard is it to ask a coworker "hey, read this and see if it makes sense". Or "hey, I just posted the official announcement, can you look it up and see if I missed something?" I'm sure that the challenges are developed as a team, seems like the announcement could get input from the team before it goes up as well.
I hope they break the 2 week gap schedule and do another operation this weekend with the new maps
Got the squad goal done. Actually ran through gold a few times with success over the weekend with randoms. Just took a little time finding right mix of people with the correct kits (biotics).

Soldiers of the Milky Way –
There is an old human expression: “You reap what you sow.” The word “reap” has been co-opted by our enemy, but this does not make the expression any less true. We have spent much time in recent weeks planting seeds. We recruited, we trained, we defended, all in the hopes that, sometime soon, we would have enough breathing room to mobilize against the enemy on a grand scale. Over the past few days, we did just that.
Operation BROADSIDE attacked Reapers all over the galaxy, and we made them take notice. They expected to fight asari on Thessia, turians on Palaven, batarians on Khar’shan, but what they got was turian bombardments covering vorcha troops using human tactics in asari streets. It was perhaps due to this complexity that BROADSIDE did not go as planned. We sought a way to defeat a numerically superior ground force with little loss of life, but there was no sure strategy to adopt. When we innovate, our enemy adapts. Yes, we’ve seen losses, but a war worth fighting does not come without a cost.
Take inspiration in that. I know it is discouraging to fight for alien real estate when we have not yet taken the battle to your own homeworld. Operational secrecy prevents me from saying exactly when we will deploy and in what strength. All I can say to those who are waiting is one word:
Soon.

With all the confusion it is no wonder. The messed up the times and I'm not sure everyone was playing against Reapers the whole time.
oh well it still was fun runing a few Gold as well as kicking some Reaper ass
