Skyrim - Still experiencing glitches in Companions quest!

Just wanted to vent, even after all patches, I still cannot get Farkas to recognize that I've completed his "kill the leader of ...hideout" mission.  As soon as I complete the mission, the objective indicator switches to my next miscellaneous mission, and the game somehow does not recognize I completed the mission when I return to Farkas.  As a result, I cannot progress any further in the Companions storyline. 

I've seen other info about this glitch on the internet, and all of them say the only workaround is to re-load an earlier save, and immediately perform the quest as soon as Farkas assigns it. 

I'm playing on X360, curious if anyone has found any other workarounds for this.  I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and complete every other quest and see if I can get the objective indicator to point me back to Farkas, or if anyone has any other ideas.
