GameStop offers $50 credit to upgrade select 360 titles to Xbox One

Good deal....

[quote]GameStop offers $50 credit to upgrade select 360 titles to Xbox One

GameStop has announced that it will be offering a $50 of in-store credit when players trade in certain Xbox 360 titles towards their Xbox One counterparts. Essentially, the offer is to upgrade Xbox 360 titles to Xbox One for $10. The eligible titles are Call of Duty: Ghosts, Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. You can’t mix and match games, however, as they must share the same name to get the deal. Plus, only standard editions are available for pickup.

The deal is only available for Power Up Rewards members, and the Xbox 360 version of the games must be purchased within 30 days of release to be eligible. The offer ends December 31st, 2013
This is especially good news for Madden and FIFA fans, as EA has announced that progress made in the Xbox 360 versions of both of those games' Ultimate Team Mode will transfer over to the Xbox One upon upgrade.[quote]

games that aren't even out yet.....  why wouldn't you just buy the One version instead initially?

Some come out several weeks before.  Plus, if CoD comes out a week or two early... you're asking those fans to just wait?  hehe

sorry I forgot people have no self control.  of course we're talking about people who actually sell things back to Gamestop.

Lets pull it back a bit Shadow...

People do not have the same means as you and need to do things their own way. Just because it is different then yours does not mean it is wrong/broken/inferior/less relevant.

One possible reason is that people may not be able to afford an XB 1 on release day/week/month/quarter, but in "theory" they still want to game with their friends that are picking up those titles. Hopefully those titles will support cross platform game play. If they do this is one way they can still enjoy the comradery with their friends if they are moving to a new game.

I can see how someone that is really into BF and will not be buying an XB 1 till some time in Q2 2014 would want to play the game when it is released. Since the game is a vehilce combat heavy game, not having the vehicle unlocks available to you when 90% of the player base does, tends to make a very difficult progression for someone.

playfulness apparently doesn't come across in text...

but my point does still stand - your battlefield record, will that go across platforms?  If not, then you're going to have to do your progression all over again.  Doesn't make much sense to me.  And if you're talking about into 2014 - there's no indication this will last much past launch as a program for Gamestop.

"You must purchase the new version of eligible Xbox 360 game within the first 30 days of its release at GameStop."

"Offer expires 12/31/13."

So this would not help a COD or Battlefield player who is going to save for an Xbox One into next year.  It seems mainly aimed at people who want to play the game on Xbox 360 without waiting, and then immediately switch for Xbox One at its launch.

According to Battlefield 4's twitter, they heard player's desire to have "stats and progression to transfer from current to next-gen" and they are "investigating"  So it could happen at least with that game.

I think cross platform play is confirmed to not be happening, though I don't have a link.  No playing Xbox One BF4 versus an Xbox 360 BF4 player, for example.

Hope this info helps

A lot of people asked and Dice has said they were looking into bringing your BF4 stats over from the 360 version to the 'bone

if stats transfer then this is a good deal.  If not, it makes no sense to me.  Especially considering I think BF4 is coming out last week of Oct and the One is probably launching mid Nov.

I like the idea.  Activision for example has been whining that COD pre-orders are significantly lower than they have been for a long time, blaming the new console cycle.  So this might modivate people to buy the 360/ps3 version when the game comes out and then upgrade with the next gen version comes out.  Plus it locks you into dealing with Gamestop and selling them your old version back so they can resell it for 100% money in their pocket.  It's a solid business strategy from their end of things and offres consumers a bit of convenience.  They won't have to pay full price for two different copies.

For me, I'll just wait and pick up the next-gen systems version and pass on the 360 version.  But i'm older and more patient these days  LoL

The biggest thing I wonder about with this is does my progress migrate over from say the 360 version to the ONE version?  If I have to start the game from scratch, then really there's no point in picking up the 360 version in my opinion.

TANK - yes, yesterday they confirmed that CoD and BF4 will both migrate your 360 stats to your One stats via an "account" - but only once.

So it's looking better for those that can't wait.

I have to agree with Shadow in that people have no self control and will end up biting this hook. Waiting a month or two for a better product is definitely the way to go.

People that have the scratch will, those that budget, whether habitually or through necessity will wait. Comes down to discretionary funds and how bad that monkey on your back really is? cool

in the end it'll cost you $10 extra (after $50 trade in credit) to play the current gen game early.  Which isn't THAT bad.  However if the consoles are dropping a couple weeks later, I mean....
