Getting an Xbox One soon...suggestions?
Decided to take the plunge and start saving some extra money to get an Xbox One. Probably gonna go without the Kinect, or would you suggest that I go with a used one with Kinect?
Suggestions on games & needed accessories? I figure an extra controller and a charger pack are needed. Just wasn't sure about anything else.
Also, game suggestions. I'm DEFINITELY getting the Master Chief Edition in November. Destiny I'll be snagging on the 360 because most of my local buds I'll be playing with will only have 360's.
I recently traded my Xbone for a PS4. The Kinect was nice for voice commands and the rechargable battery pack is a good idea as well. As for games, if your into racing get Forza 5. I myself was highly dispapointed with Titanfall, but then again I do not like CoD.
I'm not a COD fan either. So technically....there isn't much on it right now I really want to play other than Evolve and Halo when it drops in November. Hmmm....I'll probably hold off till november then and get Halo & the Xbone at the same time.
What are you digging about the PS4? Just curious.
I felt the interface of the Xbone was a step backwards from the 360. Plus I had a bunch of bugs with mine and a few other people. Some people said it probably just need to be sent in for repairs, but they were software issues. The only reason I had the Xbone was becaue I won it from Mt. Dew, I orgianlly wanted the PS4. I'm happy with the PS4. I only have 2 complaints. None-removable battery and the voice chat quality is no where as good as the Xbone.
If you're really not into the kinect, save your money and get the kinectless version. As for games, aside from the shooters, the Tomb Raider game is very good. Assassins Creed was good too (especially if you like being a pirate) and Watch Dogs was decent.
totally agree....havent got a xb1 yet....plan on getting one in the future...enjoying my ps4
I just got the XB1 last weekend and I have the one without the Kinect. I know I'm missing some features, but in all honesty I just want to play games and not have to worry about the voice commands. Plus it seems, from this most recent E3, Microsoft isn't pushing the Kinect for games.
I'm basically waiting for Destiny. I did go ahead and pick up COD Ghosts - Walmart had it for $30 (online-only price), so I have that to entertain me until Destiny arrives in September. I am also looking forward to the MCC in November.
YEM is right about Tomb Raider. I played it on 360 and it's a fun game.
You also mentioned Evolve. I saw the release date for that game was recently delayed until the first of 2015. Just FYI.
I've been planning for the purchase of the XB1 for a while, so I bought the Nyko charger base a couple of months back when they were on sale. Also, you'll probably need the chat adapter and possibly new headphones. I went ahead and upgraded to the Turtle Beach XO7 headset. My headset I used on my 360 (Turtle Beach X3) had seen it's fair share of gaming hours and was ready to be retired. If you have newer headphones, you may only need the adapter.
"Originally scheduled for release on October 21, Evolve will now be released on February 10, 2015." http://www.gamespot.com/articles/evolve-delayed-until-2015-after-being-p...
Another Pre-order to cancel. Back to Sunset Overdrive for me. Crap, nothing that really interests me coming out any time soon.
I've got a Xbone, and the lack of games is frustrating. I'm still having a blast with Titanfall and the Tomb Raider game was excellent. Those couple of games and a few arcade titles are about it IMHO. Destiny will be a big game, but if youre getting it on 360 then I would say wait until Halo drops in November. You could probably get that game and a system as a bundle for $400.
If you do go ahead and get a system noew, I suggest getting a 2 month subscription to Gamefly for $20 so you can play Forza, Ryse, PvZ and a couple others just to see what they are about.
Kinect is neat but its a luxury honestly that you can do without if you are looking to save the $100.
As far as accessories go, I got some XO7s for a headset, an extra controller and a battery pack and I'm covered
in general, the X1/PS4 don't have much in the way of next gen 100% console exclusives. Most of the games you can also get on either PC or 360/PS3/Vita.
At this point, you're buying for the future. I got my X1 at launch with Kinect. Kinect is really cool but I honestly don't use it much. I just feel goofy talking to the TV. But it helps launch things quick so I use it sometimes. Such as "Xbox Watch TV" or "Xbox Go to Netflix" - that's convenient, but not sure it's worth $100.
Personally I do Eneloop rechargeable batteries. You can use them in 360, X1, or any other device. Just keep a bunch on hand and pop in when needed.
Most of the better 360 headsets will work with the chat apapter (24.99) I have the TB Ear Force Tango (like the XP400's) and once I configured my controllers for them (with chat apapter connected) the TB worked fine on the XBONE.
I'm a big fan of Titanfall, and I preordered Destiny because of how much I enjoyed the beta
Nice Gatsu !
Ummm, the Kinect's most useful features are the voice commands. While you can 'snap' stuff with the controller now, it's WAY easier to do the stuff with voice command like 'xbox record that' to record a 30 second historical clip of what just happeened. Or 'xbox snap achievements' or 'xbox snap chat'. Whether or not you think that kind of stuff is worth the extra hundo is up to you.
The only other accessory I would say you might need is the $20 headset adapter so you can use your old 360 headset on the xbox one. Or just buy a headset designed for xbox one.
As for games, it's my opinion that there isn't shit to play on this console. I haven't even turned mine on in a couple months I think other that to watch streaming content.
But here are some solid options
Titanfall of course, didn't tickle my fancy but many people love it, it's THE title on ONE right now
Have a buddy that says Kinect not worth it, but whenever I'm over ther he uses it all the time. Especially to turn on and off and switch channnels on tv. I don't use mine much. If I was buying now I would.nt get one. Always can add it later, probably cheaper. Since you want certain games I'd wait for the game you want and hope they include it for the regualr price.
I see a lot of gmaes coming out that look interesting. Destiny, Halo Master chief, Cod, Sunset Overdrive, Middle Earth, Far Cry, Dragon Age, and a couple more after the first of the year. won't buy all day one but would like to try most of them.
I'm really digging dead rising 3. If you like zombie games. This new incarnation did away with a lot that people didn't like about the last two, which give it a bit of a slower pace. More casual. Also the second screen interaction with the windows 8 is really neat.
Thanks for all the input and suggestions. They are much appreciated.
I'm gonna hold off on the purchase until the Master Chief collection drops in November. Even then I may have the game and no system for a little while. But I shall have an Xbox One before the year is out hopefully.
I actually like kinect on XB1... aside from voice commands, I like how some games integrate motion (e.g. leaning in BF4). The camera itself seems much better than the 360 version, it actually works without a ton of light and is much more forgiving in terms of distance from the player. I also really like scanning codes instead of typing them in. I do not like the dashboard or party system, they just don't work as well nor is navigating through the system as intuitive as 360. Chat sound is much better than 360 too, I'll equate the difference to using a landline instead of a walkie talkie. The only peripheral I have is the Polk Audio headset, sound is great but the mic is not :( For games, Dead Rising was probably my favorite so far. Ryse was better than I though too. Titanfall is a solid game if you have friends playing it, but it didn't hold my interest for long. Forza was... more Forza, same game you've played before in a prettier package.
Since PS4 was mentioned, I'll add that I recently got one (Last Of Us remastered is amazing) and really like it... maybe more than my XB1. I haven't played a ton online but PSN seems much better than what I remember from my PS3 days. I find it easier to find my way around, I like that the controller comes with an internal rechargeable battery (even if it only lasts 4 hours), as silly as it sounds I like the light on the PS4 controller and how it changes depending on what's happening in the game... I also like the controller touchpad, I like that there's a price break for some digital downloads, and I'm a sucker for eye candy so the GPU advantage is nice (I was in denial about this till I got one and saw it for myself). Both are nice systems worth considering. I don't follow game news like I used too but, at the moment, it seems like developers favor PS4 over XB1 which could mean a lot in terms of future games.
Yes devolpers do favor the PS4 over the XB1. The interface is a lot more snappier then the Xbone as well.
I don't think I've read many developers writing up articles saying they like the PS4 over the X1. I just think that's another public perception thing. The X1 is recently updating to release some of the power used by the Kinect back to games for those that don't use it, so even though most future games already claim parity in 1080p/60, that will help even more.
Devs do favor install base though and PS4 at the moment is selling way more units than One. Although the removal of kinect and the associated $100 price drop has helped Microsoft start moving more units. WIll be interesting to see how the numbers are for July.
Developers are releasing content on the PS4 first. Most of them when they show off demo's are on the PS4 as well.
which content is getting released on the PS4 first? other than Destiny.
I promise you any timed releases have nothing to do with dev's wishes. It's all about the publisher's wants and deals.
Pretty sure the same is with Battlefield. Again I've seen a lot of demo's on the Playstation as well. Destiny, Watch_Dogs, Assassins Creed are a few that come to mind.
great time to buy an X1:

FINALLY mkv support ! Yeeha !
Saw today on the XBL web site that they are (or soon will be) producing a COD skinned X1/COD package. Bet they do this for either MCC/H5.
Here's a look at the COD Modern Warfare Xbox ONE

I don't like CoD but that looks pretty sweet.
Yep, that's a good looking system. You can order the controller separately:

Bought my daughter the green skinned Limited Edition Halo 3 / Bungie Xbox 360 recently. Was going to repair our first boring white 360 for her that suffered from the red ring of death, but the repair shop offered this one as a trade for the same cost as the repair... What a score! Would like a Halo skinned X1, but I don't need two of them...
