Ok, I finally got a Mac. Any thoughts? What should I get for it? What app/programs should I look for?

What I will be you the Mac for is helping me with my YouTube videos, my podcast, and game play footage (mostly via emulator).

Chrome

Spotify

I don't know. Safari is pretty much all I ever use apart from those two.  What sort of apps are you looking for?

Currently Playing:

It pretty much came with everything you're going to need.   iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband...it's all there.

The only thing it doesn't come with is any kind of Office app.  You can get Open Office free for OSX if you don't want to shell out for MS Office.

If you DL torrents you will want Transmission (Free) and VisualHub, which is awesome to code DL movies to iTunes or DVD for really cheap.  Audio HighJack Pro is awesome for ripping any audio from the web, including Youtube or itunes or Web Radio.  Also, Nicecast is great to set a personal radio channel from your iTunes playlists that you can access from any computers worldwide, you can also share this broadcast with a number of friends that your bandwidth will permit.  Really easy to set up.  Also if you want to stream content to your Xbox or Playstation, Rivet is great for this.  Good Luck!

Vuze also works really well for DL'ing torrents and converting them to different formats like iPad or even streaming them to the xbox. I've had no issues with running it either.

If you do need to use windows for whatever reason, I use Parallels. It's pretty quick but I do notice that the Win8 beta sucks a lot of resources.

You'll need a crap ton of battries. I swear our mouse and keyboard run out everyother week.

Did you invert your mouse scroll?

I use the track pad which is awesome and I don't change my batteries very often in either, with heavy usage.  I have a hard time going ack to mouse at my work from using the track pad.  I love it that much, and it allows multi-gestures.  And Yes, invert your scroll or you'll lose your mind.

If you are worried about it, get some kind of virus protection for Java apps and what not. I just bought a new mac myself, the old one did not have enough horsepower to skype. It still works fine though. What more could you ask for after 10 years?

You could get OnLive Desktop and then you would be able to use all the apps and programs of a pc.  It would be just like using a real computer.
