I think we all can guess what this Scumbags lawyer going to use for a defence

I came a cross this just a few mints ago and it made me sick I want to beat this guy with a inc of his life and then some

On Thursday, the boy's mother, Amber Newton, said Hartley played video games from about 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

During his video game session Hartley held his son for about 30 minutes. At one point Hartley used both hands to pick up the boy and shake him while saying, "Damn you Colton, please go to [expletive] sleep."

That's when Newton took the child from Hartley, according to a Hartley's arrest affidavit.

After playing his Xbox for several hours Hartley went to work at Sam's Club, where he stocked produce, according to Sheriff's records. When he returned to his Lakeland home after work, Hartley again played video games until 4 a.m. Friday.

The infant woke up and began crying around the time Hartley went to bed. While Newton prepared a bottle for the baby, Hartley held the boy on his chest, reports show. Hartley claims he fell asleep and woke up a short time later to find Newton holding their son, who was unresponsive.

Newton told 911 dispatchers she found her son bleeding from the nose and mouth. The boy was taken to Bartow Memorial Hospital, where he died around 7 a.m. Doctors told investigators the child's injuries were consistent with being shaken.

Hartley admitted to shaking the child Thursday morning and another time about a week prior. He is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse.

Hartley will be held at the Polk County Jail

While what the douchebag did is inexcusable, I am finding it harder and harder to believe that there isn't some kind of connection between video games and violence. Especially FPS games. Since I quit playing them consistently around the beginning of this year, I feel less stressed out out about the rest of my day to day life. This may be a combination of quitting playing the mindless drivel that is the FPS genre of games has become nowadays and playing more guitar again, but life has seem to become more pleasant for me.

Once again, I am not blaming the games for what this guy did, but I do think it can have a negative effect on one's outlook. Especially when sacrificing sleep to play more.

You just have to find balance in your life. You can't sacrifice real life for a game. Some people fail to do this.

This is exactly it. You could play the most fluffy cuddly kids game for hours on end and still do the same stuff this guy did. I don't really believe the violent video games make you do anything, I think just spending so much time playing any video game (or really any obsession you have) and you neglect the rest of your life, bad things will happen.

Blaming video games for doing bad things is the same thing as blaming cigarettes for cancer. You made the unhealthy choice. Just because a fucking lawyer figured out a way to push the blame away from the person he was defending does not make it true.

I agree that the guy is solely responsible for his actions, however to believe that violent media has no effect on us is just being plain naive. If nothing else, it desensitizes us to actual violence thus not having a firm grasp of the negative effects that are caused by it. Video games aren't solely to blame, so are movies, TV, and probably more than anything else, the news media who feeds us death and destruction 24 hours a day.

@KingBayman, it's probably the guitar playing.  I find it to be very therapeutic too and my stress levels have dropped drastically since I started playing.

On topic, this fucking idiot who shook his baby deserves every bit of what he has coming to him.  Even if a person is too dumb to realize it can kill a baby, what special kind of stupid do you have to be to think that shaking a baby and telling them to go the fuck to sleep is going to calm them down?  And why does it always seem like the really dumb shit is going on here in central Florida?

You are probably right about the guitar playing. And there is a reason Fark.com has a Florida tag. Must be something about having too much sunshine. Or the fact the state looks like it could use some viagra.

I was amazed at how stupid it seemed that we had to sign a paper swearing we would never shake our baby in order to be able to leave the maternity ward with our newborn.  Then I heard about a baby who was shaken to death, which was even more amazingly, unbelievably stupid.  Like this douchebag.

I sometimes feel less fresh and good natured the morning after gaming.  But I’ve never attributed that to any specific game experience.   I tend to stay up a little later when I game.  And sometimes one beer turns into eight.  Either or both can make me pissed at the world.

I have wondered if I sleep as well after a few hour of adrenaline.  Cause sometimes after playing it takes me six minutes to fall asleep instead of four.  Dunno.

Snuphy,

First of all, there is a difference between going to sleep and passing out.

Secondly, This douche is also only 20 years old, has what is probably a shitty job, and was probably fucked up on god knows what mixed with the adrenaline of playing online..........

God damn, I have been reading my posts and I sound like some douchebag liberal commie hippie. I wanna kick my own ass. You know what, fuck this guy, I hope Bubba fucks him so hard in the ass he has a booger on his cock when he pulls out.

i stopped playing cod online because of the way i felt after having a bad night or dealing with cheating kids who think its funny. it would leave me in a bad mood for a few days and i just dont like that feeling. there is no excuse for not dealing with your stress in the proper way and taking it out on a child who only wants you to love them.

I understand that games are just that:  games.  If Timmy and his four friends feel the need to cheat in a video game, I chalk it up as pathetic on their part and move on.  Is it frustrating at times?  Of course.  But by playing with a group of friends we usually forget about it the next game and continue our daily dosage of laughter and teabags.

I am going back to the title of the post and I am going to say, "Kinetic Barrier" for the type of defense. More like ass shield...

This guy is going to get plowed in prison for shaking a baby to death.

Ahhhhh the wonderful folk of Polk county!

Makes me wonder why I live in central Florida, but happily about an hour away from the fucked up stories coming out of there.

This guy was going to kill his kid regardless of what he was doing.  If you're predisposed to fits of anger and violence like that, something will trigger you.

As far as blaming the games, that's irresponsible.  They can be frustrating and cause stress/anger but, if you get to the point where you want to get violent, you should, as an adult, have enough sense/control to turn the game off, remember that you're playing a game, and calm down.  MW didn't kill that kid, his asshole father did.

Snuphy, you drink?

The guy may have been playing xbox during the incident, but it takes a real douchbag to not spend time with a child and take simple care with an infant, game or not.  I am sure he was just a type of person who could of done the same crap if it was the NBA playoffs and the infant was crying while he was watching, or just laying about drinking a beer when the infant needed attention. As for the people getting stressed or angry at games like COD, try a long game (3 hour-ish) of Monopoly just to be losing through the last hour and half.  Makes you want to punch that Monopoly guy right in the monocle.  Go directly to jail, my ass.

It's not the video games. The guys just a selfish douche-bag. Blaming the video game for even partial credit is an injustice. For it to be causal there would have to be a MUCH higher percentage of gamers prone to violence above the average and it just isn't there.

However, King's comments on the therapeutic value of playing a musical instrument IS supported by acknowledge studies. Keep strummin' Bayman. Life just gets better with a little music.
