Looking for a good video card....

Decided against buying a new console for a while. Going to upgrade my PC instead. So I'm on a quest to find a new video card that won't destroy my bank account.

Currently I'm running a Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 1gb superclocked. I've had it since 2012 and it's been fine for most things. But it's starting to show its age and with newer games like MKX and Batman Arkham Knight coming this year, I want to upgrade my system.

I'd also like to be able to run 3-4 monitors off of 1 card if possible. I know I won't be able to do much expanded gaming on that many monitors at once. But I use that many monitors for graphic design and video editing projects I work on a lot.

I've had my eye on this: EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB DDR5 but I wouldn't mind finding something similar for a little less.

Any suggestions? I'd prefer to stick with Nvidia if at all possible. But I'm willing to give ATI a try if the specs are good and the performance is good.

Also..if I decide to upgrade, can I keep my current card as a secondary card in order to run more monitors?

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit OS, 16 gb DDR3 ram.

Pretty sure that 970 isn't really a 4gb card. There was a big stink about it. The card still performs well but the last 512mb of memory runs much slower than the rest. I'm not really sure how it impacts real world performance but it was a shitty thing for nvidia to do.

I've got a 4gb 760 that has met all my needs...granted it's a year or so old now.  I'm currently running triple 24s on my sim rig with it.  You may even be able to pick one up second hand from someone that HAS to have the new shiny.  wink

Aside from the missing memory, the 970 is a solid card. I'm still rocking a 770 and it meets all my needs.

And just FYI, unless you're gaming at uber high resolutions, 2 gigs is plenty of memory.
