Unlike most people on here, I watched it live on TV when I was 15 years old. I can still remember the feeling when he stepped out of the LEM. Up until that moment none of us knew when or if man would ever land on such a significant heavenly body. Every day since then has been different. I wish for all of you who were too young to experience this event, to be lucky enough to experience a communal event as life changing and momentus as this.
His career without the space missions, is enough to give him the title of American Hero. Apollo 8 allowed all of humanity to call him their Hero.
Yes, the whole family and some odd assorted of people all huddled around the living room watching on a big black n white screen as it all played out. It was amazing...monumental.
