Same named topics merged together
We had a topic titled "Tonight, tonight" for our clan night topic back on 3/9. Another member posted a topic with the same name today. When you click thru the link, you are directed to the old one. Perhaps they are sharing a url?
Ah, this is because URLs are built to be readable in V3 so they are easily bookmarked and/or shared. In V2 it would just spit out a strange ass php code with something like modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=715976#71597
Seems like I need to put some sort of unique ID number on the post in order to separate the two titles but keep them still readable. Id hate to go back to the numbered mess of V3. Let me see what I can do. For now link me to the post and I can changed the URL to be something slightly different.
Ok, I fixed the URL to the old post. There are now two unique posts. One at:
http://www.2old2play.com/forum/group-forums/2old2playhalo/tonight-tonight
and one at:
http://www.2old2play.com/forum/group-forums/2old2playhalo/tonight-tonight-2
All URLs should now place an unique ID number on titles to differeciate them from other topics of the same name. Great catch! It's one of those things I wouldn't think about until it happened.
Awesomesauce Doodi! Thanks!
Some sites, for instance www.tivocommunity.com , have built in systems to pre-check for similar threads before you post. The message below a new thread title is:
Is this something that could be implemented here, or is that not possible?
It's possible, although I think I'm more focused on building the community back up as a whole so we run into more situation were threads need to be searched.
