Who else has had it with all this snow?
Who else has had it with all this snow?
I've lived in the Northeast my entire life, and in Massachusetts for over 40 years. We have had our share of really bad winter storms (e.g. Blizzard of '78, Nemo, etc.), and winters with a lot more total snowfall over the season than we have had so far this year. And our winters can't hold a candle to places like Buffalo that routinely gets slammed with lake effect snows.
We are used to dealing with the snow here. My wife and I don't think school should be closed if there's less than a foot from any given storm. But what we've had here recently is just ridiculous.
Boston has set a record for the most snow recorderd in a 30 day period, with 71.8 inches. It's all really fallen in the last two weeks. I live about 20 miles west of Boston and we always get much more than the official totals so I can't really give a good number. But just take a look.
Here's a shot looking out of my kitchen at the deck. The little brown spot at the 3 o'clock position is the top of the railing along the deck.

There's nowhere else to put this stuff. Note the top of the snow pile almost reaches the bottom of the basketball hoop net.

What's it like where you are?
You got my area beat, for now.
Expectng more snow on Thursday and Saturday... Not much though
Thursday isn't suppose to be more than a couple inches (at most) The Saturday storm, however, is looking like it might be big.
Yeah, just hearing about the possibility of another foot or more this weekend.
Sigh.
NWS has a blizzard warning out for Saturday night into Sunday morning, 8-10 inches forecast.
"Blah blah blah potentially life threatening travel conditions blah blah blah"... We have a play to go to in Boston on Sunday afternoon that we don't plan to miss. Life in New England...
Unofficial totals 14-16.5 inches in the area. I measured 14 this morning. Still nowhere to put this and more coming on Tuesday.
Typical D.C. winter here. Gets real cold then warms up and rains or snow to rain, then real cold again. Continuous rinse and repeat. Most snow on the ground was 2" about a month ago.
Sucks for you. I lived in Michigan for 27 years before I said fuck this shit and moved to NC. No looking back here.
Whenever we discuss where we'll end up when we leave Massachusetts, the first two words out of my wife's mouth are "North Carolina" :)
We haven't seen a flake all winter. That probably means that summer will be brutal...and long.
I really don't see how (or why...lol) you poor souls up north deal with all of that snow.
Having lived in Birmingham all of my life, the most we've ever seen at one time was about 20 years ago and we got between 12-14 inches in a night. Talk about mass chaos. We were without power for about a week. People make fun of how we come to a halt when we get one inch of snow, but it's usually accompanied by ice and we just aren't equipped to deal with clearing roads.
Yes, summer in the South sucks big time, but I'll take the trade off if I don't have to deal with brutal cold and feet of snow.
What's it going to be like when all that stuff melts? Seems like a serious flooding concern.
It will be a mess when it starts to melt. Some areas may have to deal with flooding, but it won't/can't all melt at once. We will just be dealing with slush into springtime. I would guess you will still see some traces of this (like in mall parking lots) in April or later.
Even with all this stuff, we actually need more precipitation ujp here. Our reservoirs have been running well under where we need them to be and we have been under water use restrictions for the past 3-4 years. I would be happier to have a rainy spring than this though.
It's freezing here in Florida. We are having to wear long pants. Its a chilly 78 here. It's killing me that I have to wear socks and shoes when I go out fishing on the boat. I totally feel your pain. This cold weather is really making sitting on the beach soon un-enjoyable. Btw, what is this snow thing you all keep mentioning? <dripping sarcasm>
Sunny & 80 in Sun City AZ. Not looking forward to returning east. Except for the Xbox part of course
I've had it in the snow, I've had it on the beach, in a boat, on a deck, interesting story about the basketball hoop...
Um, I digress...
27 years in Michigan? 6 was enough, NE tennessee now, and where I'm at North Carolina gets more than we do thanks to the moutain line stalling a lot of it on their side...
I might be heading out to Eastern Tennessee this summer/fall sometime to pay a visit to the folks. They moved there from Vermont a couple years ago...but they are glad as hell they moved right now.
It's been way to warm (50s-60s) for January/February here in the Puget Sound. And rainy as hell...but that is no surprise.
It was freezing down here in Sarasota today. High of 58. People had jackets on!
Wisconsin we have about the usual amount, it's been tame here compared to 2013-2014, funny how 11 doesn't seem cold anymore, -16 low on Saturday though.
We have a minus 7 coming soon, WTH?
Oh, and there's white stuff on the ground when I looked out. And a lot more on the way, 3-5 to morrow, 1-3 overnight and I dunnno about Tuesday.
All hands to battle stations!
Bought some soup for the pantry Just in case....
And yes, the emergency grill is ready to go! 5 burners strong!
They mentioned -37 here in Boston which is unreal and stuck in the house..They stopped train & Bus service here today
It's the North Atlantic Vortex.
You heard it here first.
Should have never said anything about little snow. Expecting a foot tonight
There callling for snow here in NC. Possible 10". My daughters school is already scheduled to get out 2 hours early incase it does.
3-5 now adjusted to as much as 8...
However so far we are at the lower edge of it and so far seem to be avoiding the bulk of it. I'd say Kentuck/Virgina is gonna get slammed.
I moved down from Michigan to get away from all this...I blame the Canadians...or Radikal, he's almost Canadian.
Yeah, made it home and all the way up the drive except the last 75 feet, and after two attempts in 4wd, say screw it, I need the execrcise and parke dit at the bottom of the hill by the boat. And the bulk of it's still not here yet supposedly. Very wet and froze over with a nice layer of snow over that. Which on level ground helps alot, but level ground around here's like hens teeth.
We got a couple inches, but the top of it was froze. Drive into work around 10 am was fine for the most part. My road was a little icey and being a hill didn't help to much. Schools are still cancelled for tomorrow though.
Your right. This snow sucks.
You sir, suck...
I just dug my wife out of the driveway. as in stuck sideways on her way home ...with the help of the brother n law and two trucks. Snow's losing it's shine...
Yeah I know. It's only supposed to be a high of 53 today, and a low in the 30's. This weekend we should be back in the 70's.
