I assume if you don't have a cable box you just run your Network cable to it like current boxes? I like the look of the voice controls for the included headset...it will do until I get sorted on what I'm going to use down the road.

ugh what? You mean you run a network cable to it to get internet access or are you talking about the tv show whatching function?

Sorry confused by your question.

If it is referencing to hooking up to the internet, you can run a network cable to the xb1 from your router/switch or you can use a wifi connection.

If you are talking about watching cable television via the xb 1, you will need to run an hdmi cord from your cable box to the xb 1 AND have a provider that is supporting this function.

Looks like it includes a headset, plus a play and charge cable that the controller will run commands through when connected.  Which makes the controller either wired or wireless - whichever you prefer.  Plus, they'll include an HDMI cable.

I'm not sure they could have made the system much bigger O.o  !  Glad to see the headset now included, disappointed to see an external power brick.  With the size of that thing they couldn't have put the PSU inside like they did the PS4 ?

With past issues, I'm okay with it being outside the box...

Yeah, I'm going to guess they did that to eliminate a possible point of overheating, given the RROD issues with 360.

He did emphasize the HDMI cable being rated for 4K quite a bit.  It was known the system can output 4K movies, but only mentioned once by a MS exec that it would do 4K gaming as well.  It'd be nice to see some more official confirmation on 4K gaming.

I liked the color on the face buttons of the controller.

does anyone really care what their set top boxes look like?  They're made to be put in cabinets, not looked at.

It is an IR blaster yeah, that's how it can change channels on a cable box, turn on your TV, adjust volume on a receiver, etc.

The power brick doesn't look much different in size compared to the current S model one with Xbox 360.  I'm not sure if it is a big deal for people, but I've personally seen them need replacing.  Its good that it can be external so if it ever does need replacing, its a new cord that's bought not a new console.

Heat or whatever might be helped too I dunno

Yeah, power supplies are a source of heat in the PC architecture, especially if they malfunction.  I've seen a heat spike from a failing power supply take out processors before, so I don't mind the brick being external.  It's a safe bet they went this route and designed the larger set top box to allow for better ventilation to avoid heat issues this gen.

all consoles are set top boxes.  aka. boxes you put stuff into to show on a screen.  You don't spend your gaming time looking at your console.

Yet not all set top boxes are games consoles, interesting.

Its still a piece of equipment in your main living area open for anyone to see (or is for some people -> Parcells) so just like all my other electronic equipment I want it to look half decent and hopefully come in black like my other equipment.

When I listen to music I'm generally not interested in looking at my speakers but when I do I want them to contribute to the overall Parcells room ensemble.

meh, it's simple, black, uniform.  At least it doesn't look like a toy.  It's a box.

actually my console is out in the open. But I can always skin it if I want. I am hoping for a Destiny or Titan Fall themed console in spring.

That's what I'm holding out for too. The wait is making me itchy.

Just have someone do a vinyl for it and be done, cheap bitches...

Oh, LB, yeah, I just meant internet access. All I watch TV wise is Netflix, if it's good, I'll watch it later without commercials, the way cable was originally sold to us, way back when.

No, I mean when cable TV was originally pitched, pay a monthly fee and no commercials. period.

Quit trying to knit pick my crap, it's really annoying. And no, I don't watch HBO, Showtime, Skinemax...I still actually go out to the movies and/or buy discs ( not downloads, discs, I hope that doesn't annoy you too much). All of which is easier to afford with NO Cable TV bill. And don't try the "but you pay for internet access and Netflix" crap either. Internet is NOT cable TV and Netflix is NOT either.

Oh, and you go Fitz!

Odd, it was never marketed like that around here back in the early 70's. Better signal and more channels was the only sales pitch I remember.

My mom told me there was a huge uproar when commercials were included for that same reason, cable was advertised as commercial free in Pennsylvania.

My 360 overheats in the cabinet.  Afterwards, it tells me I’m a dumbass for putting it the cabinet.

Going all the way back to BEFORE HBO, etc... debuted. And I was in south Florida, early 70's. Cable was originally proposed to be commercial free.

Anyone else see the first video ever on MTV btw? Boy what a conversation that was in school afterwards.

Edit: "cable" TV is too broad and generic a term. Perhaps simply "pay" TV should be used. "Cable" has been in existence since the late 40's and was simply rebroadcasting of existing programming. Pay TV was marketed to be the income model replacing commercials, but that didn't really last too long, except in a few truly premium sources.

Nope, because I was 1 day away.  ;)  8/1/81, and I was born 8/2/81.
