It may be worth it for enhanced 1080p games. Too many reasons to list why.
There are no games exclusive to the 1X so no need to move away from XB1.
Almost all new TV are 4K, just look at the retailers. I had some mad money building up so I'm going all 4K now. I've also ordered a 4TB hard drive because 4K game assets can use a lot of space. I'll use the current 2TB drive for the media drive to capture games in 4K.
I had my XBOX ONE S set to 4K upscale with output to my 4K monitor (which does not support HDR). The difference between the S and the X was noticeable but not eye popping for Destiny 2 which I expected. However, I loaded up Halo 5, updated for 4K, and I was totally blown away!!
The One X is pretty much as advertised. Not necessary by any means, but very pretty, at least on games that have been specially enhanced (which does not include Destiny at the moment). I'm pleased that I can appreciate the improved resolution and color. My eyes are not getting any younger, so was worried that I wouldn't be able to perceive the visual quality improvements. That is thankfully not the case. Have also been having some fun streaming 4k video with the Amazon app.
You are not seeing things. Output from the X is better even at 1080P. Running games from an external USB 3.0 drive should cause no problems. I have been doing that for quite awhile with no issues. Btw, the current TWAB says that D2 will be enhanced when Curse Of Osiris and Season Two are released on 12/5. That should be interesting. From the TWAB:

The holiday season is nigh, so you might be compiling your wish list. The PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One X are now both out there in the wild, and either of them would make a great gift – even if it’s one you buy for yourself. We’ve seen a lot of questions about whether or not Destiny 2 would scale to meet the potential of new hardware. On this festive occasion, the answer is “Yes!”
On December 5, along with the launch of Curse of Osiris and Season Two, we’ll be deploying an update to Destiny 2 that will deliver stunning gameplay with high dynamic range (HDR) lighting to these new consoles. You’ll also see adaptive 4K resolution on the PlayStation 4 Pro and 4K on the Xbox One X.
If you’re migrating to these new consoles, or already have, we’ll make it worth your investment.
Wow, fantastic news! D2 is already gorgeous at standard resolution. Really looking forward to seeing what they can pull off with 4k + HDR. Tees me off that they have to mention Playstation Pro before the One X in the announcement, though. They really sold their souls to Sony to go cross-platform.
Okay, so I don't have go Googling, does the wireless controller for XB1 work on the XBX?
Yes, all accessories work just like before. You can even unplug an external hard drive with games on it and plug it into X and all the games are there.
I think I have 4K, HDR, color depth 10 bit, Wide Colour Gamut setup properly on both 1X and TV.
I was/still ready to pull my hair out setting up the TV. So many settings.
And now you're too tired to play! lol
Lol, that was literally true. My eyes and head were so worn out I had to stop playing after a short time. Instead my wife and I have been watching Stranger Things.
I can say this with confidence, a good 4K with HDR and Wide Colour Gamut are definitely worth it. My LG UJ6500 barely begins to show what can be had.
Still waiting on mine -- should be delivered some time this afternoon.
Mine may be in today, probably tomorrow.

So, at least 2 people with XBX received yesterday or today, and not a single review/praise/complaints?????
Still working on back step. I'm an incredibly slow worker. It's ridiculous. Maybe this weekend.

Btw, there is a list of games that are or will be XBOX ONE X enhanced (here -- https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-one/xbox-one-x-enhanced-list?xr=sh...) and, well crap, Destiny 2 is not on the list.

I'm setting up my Scorpio to replace my old XB1. It'll be awhile before I setup my 4K TV. At least I'll be able to confirm it's working okay.
Holy moly that initial update download is dragging on! Anyone else experience this?
I transferred all my games and settings to a 2TB drive before starting. Scorpio said that was a good call. Now I wonder if it was.
Scorpio seems to be working fine. I'm getting better download speeds. The original One topped out at 100Mbs. This one matches my ISP max at 150Mbs
Might be my imagination but Destiny 2 seems sharper and some things are easier to find like those planetary materials on Titan. That's on a 1080p too.

What Deep said.
Now THAT's Cool!
Thanks!
No Kinect without an adapter cable though. In case you happen to have and use a Kinect.
I am now a 4K nerd. Halo 5 looks incredible!

I had one one pre-order but canceled it. My TV isn't 4K. I wanted it for the VR but it sounds like they scrubbed that so I'll wait.
