Duplicity in offensiveness

During the 90's, I got a crash course in what is considered "PC".  Overall, I think a lot of it is crap, to be honest - I mean, some things are such idiotic pathetic attempts for personal gain than a true work towards a better cause that it just makes me throw up (just a little in my mouth).  However, there still is a place for being dilligent as to some words that can cause grief.

To that end, I learned certain words are just unaceptable, mainly words that are slang for races, religions, and sexual orientation.  Since that time, I've seen what a furor can arise over an inappropriate appropriation of such words.  What I don't get, though, is this:  why is it OK to use words for "God", "Jesus" or "Christ" in a flippant manner when those words are sacred to so many people?  Why is it that those words can be trashed and it's considered "OK"?  I mean, if the "n" word was used on TV the way "God" is, people would be up in arms.

So, I'm coming out right here and right now and saying that I'm offended when any names referring to my God are used in that fashion.  Won't change who I'm friends with, but I think it's important to say, just as I'm sure you'd tell me if I was using language that was offending you.

Peace out  :-)

That's the deal breaker for my wife, as well. On the third strike we turn off the DVD or leave the theater.

I will leave games with my clan if these things aren't controlled. Most know it and are VERY courteous of me and my faith.

I feel you've taken the first step Tait, letting others know where you stand. From the outside one could look at your Clan-Profanity and assume that anything verbally goes. There are a lot of different levels that people use and interpit slander, to some its part of their casual conversation. I've noticed that even the most foul mouthed person CAN control their vulgarity in many situations, its their choice. When we are aware of persons that are offended by our context, we are in control and need to make the correct choice. Much like you have made the right choice by your statement/expressions here. Go Tait! OMR.

Totally agreed, I have actually mentioned this to friends of mine that do it frequently....and they try to refrain around me. I'm horrible about cursing, but I try to leave God out of it.

Sorry, I am a horrible offender, I fear, having no division of pc and not pc words of profanity in my vocab. Anyone in earshot, take this as apology, and know it isnt a personal attack on ones' spirituality

This is why you've earned the rep for being so serious. :) After a long LAN weekend, I can't believe that was the first thing on your mind. (I kid of course.) Also I don't disagree with your sentiment. Unfortunately we all fall short, so hopefully I'm not one of the guilty parties. I don't have a lot of vices, but a potty mouth is one of my worst.
