Now it's hunting season though. My fav. time of year. The leaves change. Food goes from light and grilled to hearty and baked. Its all about the cooler weather, the smells of home, football and friends.
I have been doing alot of bird hunting of late. You can't hunt doves in NY. I hunt Pheasants and Chuckars... It's a shame. The Phesant population in NY has been decimated by clean farming(no cover for the birds). Selective weed killers like Atrozeen(spelled wrong probably), leave bird eggs soft and unhatchable. So in order to bird hunt, you need to belong to a private club.
I bought a new shotgun. http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/legacy.tpl I bought the 20g model. I have only shot it once so far. The thing is a work of art and I got a smoking deal on it only paying about $1000.00 tax included. They normally sell around 1400 + tax here.
I also bought a rifle. http://www.tikka.fi/ I bought a Tikka T3. I got it in the Lite Stainless version(30-06). I put a Brushed alum. VX-II Leopold on it. I figured that Winchester stoped making the Model70 so now would be a good time to retire the gun...
I need to gush about the Tikka. First, the gun is reasonable. It cost me around 500. That is Stainless and synthetic. Remington and Brownings models in that price range are all wood/blued. For syn/SS it is a 200 dollar option. Second, the action is smooth. It does not bind. Third it is very accurate. It shoots very good and has a crisp trigger from the factory.
Ah well, I'm out...
