From Gamespot:

Results from a survey by AOL and AP has found that over four in 10 parents simply leave kids to play games alone. Furthermore, 30 percent only play games with their kids for less than an hour a week, suggesting that 73 percent of parents take little or no active interest in their children's hobby.

Playing COD4 last night and I was on a team with a 6th grader. I don't have any kids of my own, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't let my 6th grader play a COD4(Rated M).

You know, one time I was at a local comic book store, one that also has Magic the Gathering and some of those games with the little figurines.... Anyway, some kid was in there playing with his friends. Kid was ... (I'm bad at ages) 12ish. Anyway, his Mom wanted him to come home or something. He said that he was in the middle of the game. Being 12 (or whatever) it didn't come out as calm as that. Anyway, this"lady" left, (with her daughter) and said, "They really take their stupid games so seriously). I looked at her in shock. Lady, isn't it good that your kid is out playing with others? The game looked hard, full of strategy etc. Why are you cutting him down in front of your daughter? Maybe this is the problem. Parents just rolling their eyes at the "stupid" games their kids play. If so then that's really sad. Great blog as always

I watched my boss's kids this past weekend. They played Lego Star Wars and Star Wars Battlefront....I threw in COD2....but not once did I let them online. They were 8 and 12. My son is 6 [almost 7]. I cannot foresee a day in the near future where my son has internet in his room, or is connected to it via Xbox without me right there in the lobby with him. It's just bad parenting to let those little guys solo....Xbox can't raise your kids or teach them right from wrong. /me stepping down off high horse.
