Shared on Wed, 12/12/2007 - 16:10I recently received a holiday bonus from work. I was surprised. Last year we just got a $40 gift cert for a local restaurant chain. This year we got a debit card with $200 on it.
I've been thinking about getting an Elite since it was announced. I love black, it fits my entertainment center (that I made). I want hdmi, but not for what most people want it. Most people want it for 1080p output. I want it so I can have surround sound with my TV and my 360. My receiver only has one optical input. So I plug the hdmi into the tv, optical from the tv to the receiver.
I didn't get one because there just isn't enough reason to justify the price difference of a new elite and a used core (with hdd). But since I got this unexpected bonus I decided to do it.
So I hooked up the elite. I find out my TV does not pass the digital audio from hdmi to the optical output. How stupid is that. I am still going to sell my old 360 as I like the black and the 120gig hdd. But the main reason I bought the system is broken :( The TV manual does not mention this.
However, the black controller is MUCH better than the original white controller. Part of it might be my white controller is 2 years old and the springs have been worn out a bit. The black controller has very little play - deadzone. The white controller is sloppy. After playing some Tiger Woods I find out that is my problem with the game. The white controller is so sloppy that it is really hard to hit a straight ball. I can hit a perfect drive every time with the black controller. That also means that developers need to realize this!!!
The elite is quieter than the core (which was built in early summer of this year). When playing a game it is about the same, but at idle it is much quieter. Most likely I have the new processor. But also the dvd drive doesn't spin up as much. It is louder in vertical because the dvd drive isn't as balanced in that position.
Now, I just need to get some black plastic paint and paint my memory card and chatpad.
