In a perfect world.....

... The adults on this site could chat a bit about politics without feelings getting hurt.

I have made mention of politics a bit in my blog, plus I've seen other blogs recently where it's mentioned but not necessarily discussed. I'm seriously not trying to take a soapbox position here about the way that we, as adults, should act; I'm merely stating that I'd like to see an alternative, a place where people could say what they think about the issues, and why, without any of the following:

  • Soapbox politics
  • Personal attacks
  • Extreme fundamentalism
  • Infiltration by Timmies

Again: I am not trying to dictate the way that adults should act. In a few more months, Americans are going to decide who they feel is best qualified to make some major changes in the way this country is being run. I'm simply interested in how we can discuss this decision peacefully.

If anyone has an idea of how (or, even if) a civil political discussion can happen, to quote Ross Perot... "I'm all ears."

I find that politics are becoming more and more polarized. It's like Republicans really honestly think that hte world will come to and end if Democrats get into power and vice versa. I think we have to get over the idea of the idea that other guy is evil. Once you start that, you will have more cooperation between the two parties. Once you have that: real work will get done.

I believe Andrew Jackson was accused of murder by some one he was running against. It's been pretty dirty in politics since the start. I read some where that even the super secret group that controls ever thing, Free Masons, don't even discuss politics or religion at their meetings. Hell Carebears don't even talk about it, and if the Carebears can't be civil talking about something then who the hell can.

"I would have tried to get a better picture but I was wearing an expensive suit and didn't want to accidentally rub it against liberals." Yes, clearly you're ready for a mature, non-polarized discussion. jk I really don't give a crap about politics, carry on.

This is one of those topics that is so colored by a person's experiences that it is very difficult to keep it objective. I think that is where it will always start to degrade. An objective political discussion is an oxymoron. I have a lot of friends who don't share my political position. I still like them even though they are wrong. ;)
