Shared on Fri, 05/02/2008 - 05:49Guh. Things are rolling along, getting money from our insurance company. We've had our flooring and carpet replacement price through, and it seems reasonable enough - laminate flooring for the living room and kitchen, and carpet for the hall, stairs and landing - we considered putting carpet down in the living room instead, but I pointed out that we barely hoovered the living room enough when it was just laminate, never mind carpet, so we squelched that idea.
The price for our kitchen units and worktops is another story. The surveyor who came out and assessed the kitchen has quoted a price which seems short by several hundred pounds of what we'd estimated, considering that we'll need a plumber to come in and lift our sink out, cap the water pipes, remove the gas hob for our cooker, then put it all back in afterwards, on top of the general material and labour costs for the worktops and cupboards. They're sending us a cheque out, and depending on what terms and conditions are attached, we may just keep the money and stick with things as they are - the worktop was hardly damaged, and it's only one corner unit that was damaged also. It depends though - if the insurance company just hands us the cheque and washes their hands of it, then we'll be laughing, but if they're looking for receipts and invoices to prove the work was done, it may be a different matter. I have a feeling it will be the latter, and we'll end up having to get multiple quotes for the work, then have to go back to the company and beg for a reasonable amount.
Still, at least it's almost the weekend - I'm finishing early today because we're taking the cat to the vet for a checkup - her eyes have been running more than usual lately and she's snuffling and sniffing a fair bit. Things are quiet on the work front, so I'll waste time on the internet and pray they stay that way :)
